While the episode is very good, and the homage to Adam West is quite touching, my personal favorite aspect of this episode is that it contains flashbacks to Bruce's childhood... THAT ARE ACTUALLY HAPPY. It's probably the only Batman-related thing I've ever seen where his parents are present, but they don't die.

The three things I love about this episode is that…
    1. It’s a tribute and homage of what Adam West went through after the 1966 Batman got cancelled. He struggled for years, and was considered a “has-been”. Letting Adam voice Simon Trent in this episode was a great meta decision. There’s a great documentary about Adam West that you should check out. It’s great!
    2. Bruce Timm, one of the top creators of the DC cartoons and animated movies voiced the Mad Bomber and they used what he looked like at that time as the design for that character. It cracks me up. Love Bruce Timm.
    3. Like you were saying, it’s a homage to the audience of children who grew up with superhero shows and people who love watching the series as it’s going. It gets everyone in touch with their inner child and make Bruce watching The Grey Ghost as a kid and loving him to be relatable.
Woof. That was a mouthful. I just love this show and I’m glad you’re loving it too. Have a nice day!

Bruce Timm stated he wanted this episode to be a reminder of what it was like watching the Batman (66) when he was growing up, and that without it he would never have the inspirations to make TAS, he also mentioned he recognized the themes of the episode which were not played for laughs might have hit too close to home to Adam West at the time in the 90s...and if he had refused to do the episode, they would have completely scrapped it, but to their relief, he not only agreed to do it, but proved to be the wonderful human being they thought he was when he was voicing his lines...

A few weeks ago I saw a clip with director Kevin Smith where he talked about Kevin Conroy's passing, and just like you said about how his work as Batman touched so many people Kevin Smith told a story about how he once had Kevin Conroy as a guest on his podcast and he asked him to tell him an encouraging message in Batman's voice and he clipped it and kept in on his phone and he listened to it for years whenever he was going through a tough time and it helped him a lot because here was the voice of the actual freaking Batman telling him directly "You're doing the right thing, Kevin." These things resonate with people. It's like when I found out that Carrie Fisher had passed away. It's the only time in my life I've ever felt genuinely sad that a celebrity died. It felt like finding out that a cool aunt I had loved as a child but had moved away and I hadn't seen for years and years had suddenly passed away.

'Some days, you just can't get of a bomb... some days, the bomb chases you!'
Bruce's primary inspiration is often Zorro, but as time goes by that's going to get more and more dated. The fictional Gray Ghost is very relatable though, resulting in a typecast actor furiously struggling to break out. Played by one too. Very meta. Good comparison how Bruce is inspired by the Gray Ghost show to do good while the 'Mad Bomber' is inspired to do evil.

_Arkham Knight_ has an easter egg alluding to this _BATMANTAS_ episode - a poster at Pasadena Studios promoting a film called _The Ghost in Gray_ , starring Simon Trent.
If you're still uploading a few episodes from the series, Meg, I can warmly recommend the following:
    Ep. 35, "Almost Got ‘Im"
Ep. 40, "If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Rich?"
    Ep. 44, "Off Balance"
Ep. 51, "The Man Who Killed Batman"
    Ep. 59, "Read My Lips"
Eps. 60-61, "The Demon’s Quest" (parts one and two)
    Ep. 75, "Bane"
    Ep. 76, "Baby-Doll"
    Ep. 78, "Showdown"
They are, to my mind, some of the most interesting, thought-provoking or outright frightening episodes in the series, and could also serve as vehicles for acquiring general knowledge of Batman lore that you may be new to or semi-familiar with.
That said, thank you for introducing me to the unique experience of reliving a nostalgic item through another person’s eyes, allowing me to recall what made _Batman: The Animated Series_ such an outstanding programme in the first place.
Post scriptum: I think I have listed the abovementioned episodes in their proper order. If I have made a blunder of it, however, feel free to correct me.

In fact the night Bruce witnessed his parents' murder they'd all just been to the cinema to watch "The Mark of Zorro".

    3. The villain is played by Bruce Timm - One of the main artists/producers/creators of Batman The Animated Series.
(The DCAU is frequently referred to as the "Timmverse".)

nothing beats old school.Actually honey this reprents crazy obssesions and psicopath that have no values and will do everything just to get what they want, most of the batman villains are freaking crazy and selfihs,is okey to like something or disagree whit something but commiting crimes or persecuting and harrasing someone for exampole like playing a videogame(howarst legacy),is not right..But in reality this episode was a tribute for Adam West and show a bit of how hard was his life after his role as batman, great episode ,we got two batmen for the price of one,

Ironic you watched the killing joke before this. The villian is an allegory for Bruce Timm a writer on this show who was inspired by Adam West and his portrayal from playing Batman in the 60's who ie primarily responsible for the killing joke especially the Barbara wnd Batman ship. He thought it'd be fun to play the villian in this ep and the villian is modeled after Bruce Timm who was a mqssive part if this series but then behaves in toxic fan behavior pushing his Batgirl/bwtman ship desoite fans rejecting it for years

It's OK to cry doll ,specially because guess what? The Grey ghost was voiced by Adam west himself! Yes Adam west from the 60s batman series, and actually this is his story , he mention that after portraying batman he couldn't fi d a serious acting job , and he hated it, til finally he embraced it, an accepted it and made peace with it and ended up fi ding ways to profit from it
