- Normally RED means stop, but not in Iron Mountain, MI where drivers speed up to beat the train every chance they get.. I'm glad I included this stop during my chase from near Channing, MI.

Lookit all that lush greenery of summer!
Theory: The devices in the road are temporary vehicle counters. One for each direction of travel.
I miss the UP! My dad used to work for Copper Range Railroad. I love trains.
One day Jason it will be bad. Then the no horn zone may have to be reversed & gates put across the crossing. Gosh is so pretty where you live, just gorgeous in the summertime. Nice train you got yesterday. ❤😊👍
You know what I’ve noticed is that you go nuts for those mega log haulers you love that kind of railroad cars and I think it’s funny when you announce them
The rail crossing with the barn is really a pittoreske crossing. I really enjoyed it!
South Bound and No Smart siding, kinda unusual, thanks for the video, Jason
First time ever seeing this channel or content and I read the title and thought I'd give it a look. Genuinely shocked when I read the rest of the title and saw it was in Iron Mountain!
I'm not a train chaser/watcher myself, I honestly had no idea people were so crazy with crossings here!! Still, a surprise!
Love the callout for the log haulers! Such fun! BTW, in Taxifornia, and on the Hwy 880 Bypass near the CHP "rookieville" school and driving course, there is/was a section of the freeway where the DOT has/had applied several types of paint/epoxy strips of different colors/composition for the purpose of testing durability/longevity of the products under more or less a controlled environment. Those black patches may be under evaluation for durability and applicability to the roadway? Just guessing.
No idiots giving you BS in this one...Thats great.
I was screaming “mega log hauler” before you saw it! 😊
I love dirt roads--two tracks or even just a tail thru the woods. Was brought up riding them with my Dad. :-) I'm from Muskegon but have lived in North Carolina for many years. So glad I found you a year or so ago. The U.P. is one of my favorite places. Munising area is one of my happy places. I haven't been there since the 60's. I just will never forget how pretty it was. I love the sounds of a train in the night. I used to stay with my grandma in Lowell Mi. In the night I would hear the steam engines come into the mill. I so well remember the n of the steam being let off after the train stopped.
I love watching the rockers..lol 😂
I hate no horn zones because you get situations where people go around more often I feel like
This video was FRICKEN AWESOME. That was cool with the good ole 502 zoomin through the weeds. I sure smashed that thumbs up for this cool video and just for you.
Those are wireless car counting devices. Used for traffic surveys.
I understand. It goes both ways. I saw a train parked across a major intersection 41 and 64 or Roosevelt and 41 Marinette WI stopped while the guy ran into a restaurant to get food. It took about 15 minutes. That is ballzy!
Those black things in the road are traffic counters they use them down here in illinois all the time
If they are counting traffic at the crossing, perhaps ELS is considering closing the crossing line Jason said.
I come here to support the channel and watch the trains see the scenery and listen to the cool horns. Don't really pay attention to the comments. Have a good weekend Jason
Another great train video with nothing weird, illegal or immoral in it. Great job! I give it 5 out of 5 ❤❤❤❤❤.
It’s crazy how Iron Mountain is the last somewhat mountainous region in Michigan before you reach Wisconsin.
First crossing - cool spot with a cool train and a cool barn! And there seems to be a bunch of idiots in Iron Mountain that are playing chicken with the train. One of these days one of them won't be lucky!
good train video
My husband, his father was killed by a train in 63. His car got stuck on tracks and the train hit him killed him instantly. It had snowed heavily the night before that’s why his car got stuck.
Yes, Jason, most of us want to watch trains. I'm disappointed if I come to a railroad crossing and don't have to wait for a train. The closest that I came to hitting a car was 15-20 feet. Someone didn't want to wait for the crossing flashers
I heard this train when it came through town .
Some great shots today great video thanks Jason
Where would I begin to look for information on the ‘fix this crossing grant’ you mentioned.
RL
Personally, I like the ELS with its older equipment and challenges it faces. Yet it keeps on.
Same.. That opening scene of the first train passing and the smoke pouring up is cool..
I agree, just enjoy watching the trains like I have since I was a kid! That's why I and so many people enjoy the videos you post. I don't quite know what to make of those silly folks in Iron Mountain playing chicken with a train, but it must mean something to them, I guess. That was a great narrow gravel road country setting crossing! Definitely reminds me of my younger day for sure. Do you have any plans to catch a train at that big sweeping curve you caught a while back? That was pretty cool, not quite Daves Falls but very cool none the less! We need some good switching action again as well. Jeep them coming!
What are the black tar looking rectangular marks for in each lane of the road 🤷🏼♂️?
Alien replicators
My old neighbor died because of lack of trim !!! Rip rosel
An orange freddy at the end of train thanks Jason !
What a great road. My dad used to ride his little Honda motorcycle around all the little gravel roads in Whitman County, Washington. Most of those were curving and hilly--we were in the rolling hills of the Palouse country.
Neat video. Crazy drivers in Iron Mountain. Think your prediction of crash being inevitable is correct.
The way you announce "MEGALOG HAULERS" reminds me of the announcers for the local drag track. "Sunday Sunday Sunday, watch 'em smoke as they go for broke!" Aah, takes me back. Keep up the great work. 👍
Detroit dragway?
Don't remember the name. Living in Dayton, OH at the time.
BTW, both Don Garlits and Tommy Ivo are still telling great stories.
😮U.S. 30 dragstrip Gary Indiana
Atco in Jersey
Considering the times I've seen pieces of cars at intersections in Iron Mtn., it isn't just trains drivers here try to beat.
How do you initially know when a train is going to come by? How do you know where to find them?
I hear it, or see it.. I live next to the tracks.
Some day you will get a train vs. automobile accident. I just hope it's not fatal.
They should love you for sharing for others!!!
100% agree
Are there other people in the U.P. you go train spotting with?
There are a few that watch..
Only one MEGALOGHAULER!?, DARN!, yes, i saw it coming around that curve where 502 was rolling coal, and those 4 Darwins.......like you say, "one of these days, someone is gonna get creamed"...........too bad you didnt go to County "O", 502 woulda been screaming up the broken pole hill.
What I'm concerned about is the tall weeds which block the view of approaching vehicles on those lonely coutry dirt roads. Between the railroad and the county, someone seems to be asleep at the wheel.
As far as the mysterious objects in the roadway, it could be to count how many vehicles are using that particular crossing per day, month, or yearly. It may send the data via satellite. Just a guess, until your Brain Trust viewers set me straight.
And no, I never tire of you announcing the presence of a,
MEGA-LOG-HAULER!! 👍
I was surprised you said nothing about the Mega Log Hauler. I have seen people race and attempt to race the train but slam on their brakes at the last moment. I have not seen a accident or after math but near crashes. some crossing got a horn only the driver can hear in the vehicle.
@ 8:05, couldn’t tell there was a siding until seeing the railcars in the siding. Only vehicle counters I’m familiar with/in Alabama & Deep South are those w/a rubber hose leading to a counter, think the air pressure hose in a service station that rings a bell. However, w/the extreme cold up North, those likely would work very well there.
Hey, what happened to green FRED? Do you think he bailed somewhere down the track and embarked on a journey to freedom with more of his own kind? Makes you wonder.
prolly working Crivitz to Green Bay end of the line.....
Probably was afraid it would be involved in another ELS derailment
There is a lot of people that dont use common sense at railroad crossings. In my 30 years of operating trains, I have hit three cars and one semi. All do to there stupid decisions they made at a railroad crossing.
The engineer is going to have one burnt arm as it’s always on the window sill. 🇨🇦
I see you fixed your car's exhaust.
I think some don't have the patience to wait. I once had someone drive around me when I stopped at a crossing.
I also think some people simply aren't paying attention. That person in the red truck seemed to startle, then went for it.
As I said before this is one of the stupidest quiet zones in the country.
Like seriously these crossing aren’t well protected and someone impatient is going to get hit and possibly die and I don’t want that to happen to anybody.
Counts the traffic on the road.
I think most people are just stupid and will try beating the train and have a death wish and will be sorry when they get hitby the train
What happened to the bump sign by your house? Did they fix the bump?
It was only to slow people down when traffic was coming this way, it was a distraction. lol
Mega-mega Log hauler! Idiot drivers cutting in front of trains that close! Thanks for sharing!!!
Racing a train will get somone killed. No horn due to noise...surprised they havent complained about bells on locomotive or crossing signals
They are just die hard yupers
Just heard that someone was walking on the tracks and was hit and killed by a train this happened in Metairie la
Everyone seems to be in a big hurry even if it puts them or you in danger
Opening sequence by all those crazed yoopers!
These people are putting themselves in danger injured or killed lessen learned nearer attempt to cross while train is coming once the train passed then you can go because train are much harder to stop
Yikes, sometimes I take for granted that I live in a developed nation that can afford a painted stick that automatically blocks the road when a train is approaching intersections
Too bad USA is too poor for such technologies. They could never match the economic might of Canada nor afford such advanced innovations
its a good thing he wasnt going very fast
I think they are creeping because of idiot drivers.
Well lets get back to the trains shall we with drama aside but more idiots jumping out infront of a train(s)
Nice chase! 👍
Watch out for those ticks in the tall grass. Ticks and mosquitoes are in abundance this year. 🦟😬☀️🇺🇲
