    Hi, your videos are great so thanks for posting. One comment that I thought I would make is that you do outside the puzzle, but then you don’t really use the list that you created. You are still reviewing every number even though the list is only 5 possibilities. 😃

    This video is what I think about strategy of Sudoku solving. There are two ways to find 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 and other NxN. First) Only one place for NxN to be in, example at 8:41. Second) Only one of N numbers could be in these N cells, example at 6:50.

    Thank you so much for your tutorials. They have given me a new perspective on solving Sudoku's. Even just following your first 20 and some of your more advanced tutorials, I have solved a 'harder' newspaper Sudoku. One of the most helpful techniques has been to identify 2, 3 or even 4 candidates in a row, column and block - plus leaving the puzzle for several hours and then taking a fresh look. The later I needed when the harder Sudoku had only around eight - 7, 8 matching pairs left and I couldn't unlock them until after a break I realised I had missed something then they all tumbled like dominos. One comment you made in Tutorial 40 concerns triples. I have probably not seen them covered yet. Is it possible to point me to the relevant tutorial please. Thanks again.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy 2 года назад

      Hi Robert. thanks for your comment. Triplets and 3X3 are the same. It is when in a row column or block there are 3 cells where only 3 numbers can go. Look at lesson 18 . Look at my latest tutorial #87 for another look at a Triplet. How do you solve that row if there are no other helps available from the other rows/columns/squares?
    Sir, you short-circuited your technique by introducing the "artificial" 2 which then allowed you to easily solve the row.
    You are an excellent teacher and I have watched several of your videos, but the puzzles you pick don't seem to be as difficult as the ones I am trying to solve.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy 4 года назад +1

      I understand your question. I put a 2 down there and assume that it is in the the right place to demonstrate what will happen. The 2 could have been in the cell below and the answer would have been the same. It's a possibility. No matter where the 2 would have been the result on the row would have been the same. This was not a real puzzle but what I call a possible scenario to demonstrate a technique.

      @@SudokuGuy I don't mean to be argumentative, but is someone who has listened to the 40 previous tutorials in a row STILL considered a mere beginner? I think (by then) he should have known to ONLY CHECK FOR the numbers in that row which were written "outside the box". And if not, then why write them outside the box in the first place? Isn't that the point of the lesson?
      (HOWEVER! Perhaps a beginner could have merely "stumbled upon lesson #41" without having seen the first 40! --- Is that your thinking as well, kind sir?)
      By the way, I only began Sudoku 3 days ago --- and I'm HOOKED ALREADY! I just love the patience you use while teaching.

    You keep saying that we’ve solved the whole row with an outside technique. however, your numbers just happen to pop up somewhere else so you’re not actually solving that row with the outside technique if numbers just pop up somewhere else you’re not actually showing the technique of solving it with the outside technique because you’re finding numbers that just show up somewhere outside of the outside technique.

    If you use the computer to solve sudoku puzzles, do you also use the computer to make your moves in chess? What's the point? Games are intended to make you use the old brain cells. The computer can place ghost numbers cleaner than doing by hand on paper but if that is taken any further you haven't solved the puzzle - the computer did it.

    This tutorial was the same as the last one?
    The first step is to identify what is missing in the row and add it to the side. Then when checking which numbers could possibly go in each cell, you’re checking all numbers again. However you only need to consider those at the side of the row.

    So you find the numbers 2-4-6-7-8 which means they are the only possible numbers in the five cells. Why do you check the other four numbers? It seems like a waste of time checking numbers you know are already accounted for; it seems like you went outside the puzzle but then didn't use the information you got from doing that.
