I love your videos and have been a silent supporter for years. I have a BSc in nutrition and I’m almost done with my MSc in sport nutrition. I am also a runner. Gut issues are super common in runners. However there are a couple of things you can do to help, first and foremost is to reduce the amount of fat and fibre you have before your runs. Oats might be great for some but not work for you due to the high content in fiber. Maybe opt for some white toast and jam 1h-1h30 before your runs. Also, when you consume the gels when running, consume them as slowly as possible, taking super small sips (make them last about 20 min). Additionally, there are several strategies that you can employ to “train the gut”, in some of your shorter runs, namely: - training immediately after a meal - consume a large amount of fluids while training - consume high amount of carbs while training - simulate your race nutrition plan -> these are to be used sparely and sometimes, but can help you with gut issues Also, the gels from “Science in Sport” are quite good I hope these tips help!
i’m also training for a marathon and i find eating dates really good!! they’re easy to chew and small/light to take. i just put them in a snap lock bag!
What has really helped me with post-run fatigue is that I run slowly on most runs. really slow. The heart rate should remain in zone 2 the entire time (140 beats per minute for me). If I do over 140 beats per minute, I slow down until my heart rate drops again. At first it feels stupid to run so slow and you feel like it won't help you, but it actually had the opposite effect. I can run longer without my legs getting tired afterwards and have a lower risk of injury. This also made it easier for me to hit the fast paces in my tempo sessions.
