Honestly it depends on the usage. But you can schedule it for once a year to be safe.

If your blue glad hand break while driving would you still be able to drive ? And if so for how far ...?

You can move a trailer without the Blue glad hand. The Red airline works to release, and set your trailer brakes. But, NOTE: Blue is your service line. That means your trailer brakes will NOT be working. All your stopping power will be from the tractor alone. So it may be good enough for limping a short distance for repairs if you're empty or light loaded with good road conditions. But, it is considered unsafe, and DOT will shut you down for it.
