Sam Waterston is a personal hero of mine, I love this man and his sense of humor.
I wish I knew Sam Waterston was funny back in the late 90s when I watched the original law&order daily. I love him.
It's weird:
1. to hear the audience,
2. to see Colbert put something off-camera, and
3. to hear Jon accompany #2 with elegant piano sound effects!
Every time he's put something down while at home, I've missed the piano sound lol
4. Short Hair and Standing Up
Yes! The short hair! Isn’t it weird? 🙃 In the meantime I’ve gotten so used to the long hair that I actually prefer it 😍 who is with me?
@@macareuxmoine Absolutely loving his longer hair! It suits him. I'm liking his at home show more and more. He's funnier, more relaxed, and he and his wife together are adorable! I'm going to miss her giggling in the background when he goes back to the studio.

In my opinion , he’s funnier, more relaxed and more connected now than when he had the theatre audience. Interesting.
Agree- the show has improved a lot. He was great before- but now it seems more relaxed and the jokes are more on point. Who needs to have an audience?
@@GiftSparks It takes a different approach to material and better writing. When the show is just the host (and his charming wife giggling in the background), there's not much to play off. Kudos to Colbert for making the pivot.
Maybe he's becoming more like John Oliver. That would be great.
After Covid, he should do both. Nightly at the theatre and 3 or 4 days at home as a podcast or something.
There are things which work better and those which don't. I miss the bits like The Caravan dance, which only makes sense with direct audience interaction. And that moment when he waits for the laughter to die down with some fitting facial expression. At the same time the calmer tone has a good contrast to the applause seeking babbeling of Trump.

It's fascinating watching people's reactions to early 2020, not knowing how bad it was really going to get.
I literally mumbled to the monitor, "Just wait."

I laughed so hard, I spilled my drink all over my desk, fell out of my chair, and almost broke my headphones, all at the same time. God, I needed that. But RIP to my glass of Scotch.

When he started dancing to the theme song, I got Leslie Nielsen vibes.
“Contractual obligations to the network” I don’t even know what to say- just absolutely genius.
I really needed that Sam Waterston dance. With Leslie Nielsen gone, there's a need for a dignified man of gravity to step into those shoes and step on their own feet.

I think he is a bit Steve Martin-esque, including this dance and especially playing Sol in Grace and Frankie.
This feels like another world....
I REALLY feels like one of those TV Episodes where the main cast is catapulted into a mirror universe ... like out of SLIDERS, Seven Days or something.

I've literally been watching old eps of Law & Order because I miss Sam Waterstons soothing cadence.
I find great comfort in watching L&O. It takes me back to a simple, kinder time!! At least, relatively.

Reviewing the clips from the studio, definitely prefer the home-based format! It's so much funnier when you're able to laugh at what you think is funny, without the audience laughs to initiate it.
The audience laughter is prompted by light up signs. It's not spontaneous.

How sweet it was to think 1) Trump had wised up to Covid 2) We’d crunch the curve in 8 weeks. Neither happened, but in bad times we need to laugh once in a while. Colbert has helped me stay sane in these mad times.
