What I discovered, after going from a triple monitor setup to a single 34 inch ultra wide, is that a 34 inch ultra wide is not enough screen real estate. I put one of the monitors from my original set up back. Now it's perfect. There's just no way I can give up having a second screen to run additional apps on, while what I'm working on uses the full 34 inch monitor.
@Aubenz I was thinking the same thing. But in practise, 34 inch at 1440 is actually a pretty good size. It's the same height and resolution as my 28 inch 1440 secondary monitor. So they flow really well, but it's just about having a second monitor to be honest. I think, no matter how big your primary monitor is, you still need another seperate monitor to run your side apps on.
You definitely have a point. I upgraded my ultrawide and found this super cheap dual monitor arm on amazon and stacked my 2 ultrawides on top of each other. It’s like the best of worlds
Same here. I actually use my 34" widescreen as my main monitor and have a 23" monitor above it and 20" monitor to the left of it, perfect for my workflow. I'm a software dev and need my apps on the other monitors while work on the main 34".
if you reinvest, i would try their higher model. the 850 or the new GP83 equal that OCs from 144hz to 160hz. It uses a better nano ips display and has 400nits. it can be found for about $200 more and has a solid color accuracy out of the box. The thing I really like about LG is that, at this price point it brings a lot to the table.

I don't expect it to break but later I'll buy a proper like a Samsung Odyssey. Till then, this is very nice. I just couldn't ignore the price. I'd give it to my son for a 2nd monitor if I want to also. Just for watching stock charts it's great. You can spread out the chart so much.. for me, it's not necessary but a nice thing to have non the less.
Great review of the ultrawide monitor. As a mechanical engineer and designer, I have been using various iterations of identical dual display monitors since undergrad in university since the year 2,000. I currently use identical dual 32" 4K BenQ EW3270U professional monitors on my main work station and identical dual 32" 2K Asus PB328Q professional monitors. A primary reason as to why ultrawide monitors are not recommended for any engineering design CAD work is the bow tie effect that occurs with horizontal lines, as they appear to have a radius once they span the curve of the monitor. This can become highly problematic especially when drawing orthographic plans with top, side, front and bottom views. I would suggest that if you are not an engineer either mechanical, civil or aeronautical, and you do not use professional CAD software suites such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, CATIA, Solid Edge, Pro Engineer and others, you can use an ultrawide monitor without any problems.
Do you have any experience with wether or not curved monitors make this issue better or worse? I ask because I’m currently in the process of replacing my monitor, but I am also starting my second year in mechanical engineering at uni 2023, and now I’m having doubts😂
I got a new ultra-wide coming, they do look cool, the goal is to muti task better with the new Gaming Laptop I order with it, the one I'm getting is also a LG monitor but 160hz! So, this should allow me to have a super smooth PC experience, my phone pushes 120hz and that is FAST & RESPNSIVE, which is what you want at the end of the day, so another 40hz should be SILKY SMOOTH/Responsive, plus it has low latency... Ultra-Wide PC gaming seems different which should be exciting
An IPS 5k2k ultrawide monitor with 144 hz, 10 bit color depth, and at least 90% of DCI-P3 still doesn't even exist....so I decided to settle on a good IPS 32" 4k 144hz monitor for 3D rendering, Graphic Design and Gaming. But I don't give up hope for the future!!
I got this to work from home/ learn and play baldurs gate 3, first ultra wide monitor for $350 I usually work a dual monitor set up, aka one monitor and my laptop
Good and informative video. I have a desk of exact the same size and have been thinking of upgrading/changing from current 27" 4K monitor to either 34" ultrawide or 32" 4K which should both be perfect size regarding viewing distance and reasonable scaling. 32" would be perfect to view content with 125% scaling (currently 27" 125% is slightly too small for my eyesight) and while 1440P ultrawide is of less pixel density it is still ok with 100% scaling (size - but not crispness - wise equivalent of 150% 4K scaling) either on 27" or 34" ultrawide. Ultrawide is most tempting due to gaming, but should be ok also for work productivity although 32" should be similar with just more vertical space + no need to worry about any distortion issues in e.g. photo editing as a hobby. Anyways looking out for a 2nd monitor on the cheap so will keep this on my list.
