Bernard Cribbins dies aged 93

- Legendary children's performer Bernard Cribbins, of the Wombles of Wimbledon and the Railway Children, has died aged 93.
The beloved actor was born in Oldham in 1928 and after appearing on stage, he found fame in film and TV, becoming widely known as the narrator of The Wombles and a long-time host on Jackanory.

Loosing Bernard cribbins is like loosing a household friend.
I had the privilege of meeting him many years ago and his enthusiasm for his work and his response to his fans should be an inspiration to people who follow him in his acting career.
I only wish the doctor could take him back in time
He loved his wife dearly, and she passed a year or so ago. I know I couldn’t manage very long without mine.

Man was an absolute legend, cant think of any of the current generation of character actors that come anywhere near him

I'm actually a little bit gutted about BC, kind of grew up with him and he played his part in Dr Who so brilliantly - for me, his era in Dr Who was when the show was at it's VERY BEST! Truly an absolute LEGEND!

Hit the nail on the head... I truly did adore him, his voice was a brilliant bedtime story and we share the same birthday only some years apart as I was born in 1977. I would have loved to have met him in person. I did write him a letter during his Doctor who years. When I saw him cry, I just wanted to hug him. He sent me back a lovely signed picture and a reply to my letter. To me he would always be a nation treasure and granddad to all his young fans. I will miss him.😢🥰

I'm sure I'm a better person because of it !
70's for me and he was such a big part of my childhood. He had a wonderful sense of humour and seemed like a really genuine person.

Was he a philanthropist ,did he do charitable acts ,did he speak up for the poorest and weakest in society or was he just another self seeking ,egoistical career actor ?if he did gods work on a daily basis, then I salute him.
