  • A video series documenting the stories of Barbudans as they continue to live on a small island (Barbuda) often described as one of the most at risk Islands in the world. The challenges they continue to face and overcome (5 years) and the courage and resilience demonstrated in the aftermath of the impact from the most powerful and destructive Atlantic Tropical Storm at that point (5th - 6th September 2017,Hurricane Irma)
You will get glimpses of the many obstacles confronted as Barbudans struggled to maintain their vision and plan for development that is centered on sustainability through good environmental stewardship. A vision that is the antithesis to speculative ventures being pushed by disaster capitalists that flocked to the island in the wake of the hurricane disaster. The so called "redevelopment" of the island requires the elimination of the system of communal land ownership to make way for promoting a luxury real-estate market that only benefits billionaires.
The videos were realised as part of the 'Land, Food and Climate Justice in the Caribbean', whose mission is to promote bottom up people lead solutions to communities' climate challenges and funded by a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) grant of the UK Research and Innovation (www.gov.uk/government/organis.... The videos also represent one of the outputs of a project which sought to promote regional collaboration between communities facing similar challenges.
