Really like these videos. Personally, I'd love to hear some full Call of Cthulhu stories, those can end... well(?). Apart from that, seems that the Alchemist costed the party _an arm and a leg._
Can't say how much I appreciate that you actually allowed the players to go completely off the rails from your intended story path. That's the thing about tabletop games that different from everything else: the GM and the players are creating the story together. A good GM has to be aware that the players may not act in the way he's hoping they will, and that that's ok, and he's got to adjust. You let the whole initial plot hook get bypassed by your players and managed to adjust and run with it. And the story was just as interesting, and everyone had fun. Being railroaded through a predetermined story makes players disengaged. In one of the two campaigns I'm currently playing in (which is a completely homebrew campaign), all of us just accepted that we have no choice in where we go and who we fight, because our DM was so keen to keep us following the story, meeting the NPCs, and fighting the bosses that he'd put all this work into. And our characters eventually mostly just started saying, "Okay, we don't have a choice but to go forward and see what happens next, so we might as well just get on with it." Even if it made little sense to them. Currently, we've all pretty much locked up on feeling no compelling reason to proceed forward in the direction our DM has clearly planned for us. To his credit, he's starting to offer some alternate paths, but we still know where we're eventually going to end up. You let the players play their characters how they felt they should, even if it mucked up your plans. And you cleverly adjusted the main plot in a believable way and even created side stories and encounters to keep your players interested and enrich the overall setting. And, most importantly, you just let it go when they went in a different direction instead of shoving it down their throats. That's top-class GMing, and you should be proud.
Frankly, even if they're not animated, I'd love some more and longer stuff like this; also props to you on a couple of counts, #1) GMs who run games besides D&D are always awesome, GMs who run other systems more often than they run D&D are gold-dust and as somebody who takes every opportunity to play less commonly played systems, I love anybody who runs them. #2) I believe that the old adage, "If something needs to happen, don't lock it behind rolls; if something needs to not happen, take every reasonable path to prevent it." Is good advice but anybody who can adapt despite that and keep the story going is similarly amazing, so good job!
I would absolutely love to hear about some of your Legend of the Five Rings games/experiences if you ever get the chance, I've always loved that setting.

Oh, and regarding the resistance: have you heard the story of a japanese WWII soldier named Onoda Hirō that kept fighting until 1974, long after the war was over? He hid in the forest after most of his company was wiped out and couldn't believe that they lost the war. He and his other comrads started attacking villages, burning rice fields and such, always retreating back to their hideout in the woods, all guerilla style. He just couldn't believe the war was over and thought it was all propaganda, until the government found his old captain (who had become a bookseller), brought him to Onada and he told Onada "it's over, go home". "Joe Strongbody, who's really strong!" sounds sweet to play, actually. Especially if that's his catchphrase which he yells out when appropriate AND inappropriate
If he made books and guides of these adventures, I would totally buy them. I love how integrated all the characters were with the story while still allowing for an unconnected plot line.
Awesome Campaign dude, I hope you manage to get that one back together, it sounds absolutely epic, the Players seem to be your average "wreck everything" type, which sounds bad, but is actually the best type, because they're not the "regular" thinkers, they don't have a "standard" approach, it's really good for your creativity. Additionally, you can use just random encounters peppered with Lore, RNG the stuff if you need to, as long as things simply keep moving, you are going to be capable of for the most part just letting the story play it's self :) the Players seem to be interested in the Data Disk, and it sounds like they're heading for the Cage Plot first, they're touching base on a bunch of stuff, which is good, since it's providing them something to do once they're done with Iron Fist
I love the long story format... including all the twists, player perspective shifts, clarifications, and backfill to get the listener up to speed. Good stuff.
the the new longer animated videos, I still keep coming back to this one and the CoC one you did on T the Writer's channel. Also thanks for introducing me to T's channel. I'm enjoying his new season a lot.

I've some plot interpreteurs, where every pile of garbage is a hidden secret ^-^
plot interpreters don't bother me at all, cause I can mess with them.
and to be honest neither do plot killers, if they wanna rush through things they'll make mistakes and then that'll let me bring it back around on them later
plot readers probably the worst.
I agree, games should just be with the gm. Then the plot will always go your way!
@@TheLearningDroid sorry for a late question, but why wuld be plot readers be the worst?
Or do you mean the plot prereaders, that predict the timeline? If so can you help me with something? I am trying to make a GRPG my self, for me and my friends to play. If you are intrested, comment back.
@@sz_b_zstechnix7523 Um sorry I never said plot readers in my comments :)
If you're making a campeign in Gurp then good luck and have fun. Remember it's all about fun ;) ruined plots are to be expected :) just enjoy it as the GM
I actually prefer these longer things. I can put them on in the background and just listen to your RPG stories while I draw. I actually wish more channels would just share long detailed stories about their games.
As long as you didn't make one of the dog say "Edward......." or something, we are still friend!
What if Shou Tucker's part of the Nobility?
This and the first version of the Deadlands video are some of my favourite Puffin Forest Videos. Leaving the animation behind and focusing on the story and music he’s able to really convey the story and world.
That said I very much enjoy Ben’s usual videos as they’re extremely easy to just watch when I feel like. They are also a very easy way to get new viewers as even people who don’t play TTRPGs might just watch and enjoy if they see his videos in recommended.
You know, animation is hard. You should do more of these stories instead. Save yourself some work.

The Grinning Viking *looks at d20* CRITICAL FAILURE?!?!
'As you fumble your words out, before your sentence has fully finished flowing from your lips you hear a deafining crack. Dammit i rolled a 1
Rolls 20...
Haha! The fun has been doubled!
Summons Luna from the land of Equestria.
"Did I hear someone steal my line?"
TranquilClaws has left the game.
@@bobjim245 "You look up at the sky and see a dark shadow spilling from a crack in time and space. Red, flaming eyes the size of a passenger liner looks at you in a menacing and very evilly way. As it lunges toward you,you.... and then you wake up. " *roll for insanity check*
freaking awesome video! kind of BRAND new to tabletops and ICONS sounds like a blast!
i love these stories!! please do more if possible (:
MOAR!!!! This video is great, kind of like a podcast where you share your adventures/experiences. I'd love to see more of this
It was nice to be able to listen to a decent length story that I didn't have to watch from a content creator that I really enjoy
“Everywhere, there is problems.” - Puffin Forest 2018
I'm a new sub. I'm fine with this video. My first vid I saw from you was I believe the suicidal DnD character, and its now inspired one of my skyrim playthroughs.
I hope to see much more of this. Animating a video around a script is probably much harder than just writing a script.
The more Puffin Forest the better!
Oh no! Say it isn't so. You've got to finish that campaign. We got to find out what happens!
Ever played one of the Warhammer (Fantasy or 40k) games such as Dark Heresy? Warhammer settings are always great, as is Star Wars and D&D and Lovecraft but it seems you've never played a Warhammer game.
Ganondorf The Dark Lord I’m about late but I assume that slugga boys is a reference to the ork unit from 40k
Hey Ben. I can't speak for anyone else, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I would happily listen to these as often as you put them out.
I love the short animated ones, but really enjoy these long videos. Understand that they will be less frequent, but I will certainly listen to them end-to-end whenever they appear.
I like the longer stories it gives me something to listen to well laying down or making food and befor playing D&D.
(My hole life in a nut shell)
God damn it. Why have I waited till now to give these videos a try? This is perfect content to listen to while working. It's long, entertaining, and mentally engaging.
I never realize how much I appreciate the animation until you don't have it.
I really like both sides, the animated videos are great to watch with people who don't typically play tabletops. But this long one was great to hear how things progressed and your solutions to random character chooses. Super helpful for DMs! Keep up the awesome work, favorite dnd story teller!
This was so cool! Helped me wake up too, so kudos. I hope you do more stories in this format. ^^ Now I really wanna try a superhero campaign!
Me too,
I like the longer stories! All your work is great. Thank you!
"Joe Strongbody, who's really strong!" sounds sweet to play, actually. Especially if that's his catchphrase which he yells out when appropriate AND inappropriate
Do more of these your voice is so clear and easy to listen to I am just cooking listening to you talk
SLUGGA BOYZ!!
WE NEEZ MORE DAKKA!!!
NOT ENOUGH DAKKA!!!
👍
XwerffX I scroll to the comments, see 40k reference in my rpg video. My life is complete
FOR THE EMPHOROZ!
SLUGGA THROONEZZZ
XwerffX Oi, I see you're a boi of kulture as well
There is never enought kulture...
Moar kultura equals more dakka!
And more dakka equals more...
DAKKA!!!!
I WANT DA TEEF! DON'T TOUCH DA TEEF!
Honestly, I love the stories! Thanks for sharing.
and then the dogs attack full metal.... except for this one in the back that just looks at him saying "big brother...."
If he made books and guides of these adventures, I would totally buy them. I love how integrated all the characters were with the story while still allowing for an unconnected plot line.
Loving the longer format!
Thanks for the video! Since watching this I've gotten super into ICONS! Love the channel, keep up the good work friend!
I personally like your short videos better. but a long story time video every once and a while isn't bad
Additionally, you can use just random encounters peppered with Lore, RNG the stuff if you need to, as long as things simply keep moving, you are going to be capable of for the most part just letting the story play it's self :) the Players seem to be interested in the Data Disk, and it sounds like they're heading for the Cage Plot first, they're touching base on a bunch of stuff, which is good, since it's providing them something to do once they're done with Iron Fist
loving what your doing, so here's to 100k and beyond
Really really like this long format! Looking forward to seeing more of it!
Gotta admit played as a Deathstroke character..... basically evil better Batman but sooooo much more badass and he has a great healing factor.
Shoot his other eye!
I promised myself I would watch all of your videos.
I will hold that promise.
👌
[things getting broken]
Alchemist: *Shrug*
Me yelling at the screen: “Remember Alphonse and the radio!”
I love the long story format... including all the twists, player perspective shifts, clarifications, and backfill to get the listener up to speed. Good stuff.
The alchemist could have made a wall to stop the rubble.
the the new longer animated videos, I still keep coming back to this one and the CoC one you did on T the Writer's channel. Also thanks for introducing me to T's channel. I'm enjoying his new season a lot.
I would totally want to see you play/run an "Only War", "Death Watch", "Dark Heresy", "Rogue Trader" or any of the Warhammer 40K RPGs. Partially because I'm curiouse as to how you would handle the universe.
The Canadian Patriot slaneesh will rape the group to a pulp, Khorn will bleed them dry, but shit gets real if the bronx-fella is breaking the typewriter.
The short, silly animated antics may be what drew me to this channel, but it's the great stories that keep me coming back, so I certainly wouldn't mind if you kept doing longer videos!
There's never enough Mage the Ascension stories. Tell us yours.
Loved that game. So much weird stuff can go down, and paradox is always crazy.
I absolutely loved listening to this on my commute to work! Keep up the good work bro!
