No one will ever convince me that this is not one of her best songs. The background vocals during the verses alone are incredible. I hope she uses hard-hitting drums like in the pre-chorus again in the future.
Alot of people Say ultravio is her best work, but this right here is the Real shit, the incredible dark lyrics, the pure genius production, and of course those majestic violins.
That's because she's definitely a demented angel. She used her body and looks to ride to the top and now she's singing about it, it's beautifully eerie.
My dad is a 50 year old man, he is the leader of a biker gang and always dresses in black with chains, has a lot of tattoos and is very into metal and hard rock. Oh, and also he is the biggest Lana del Rey fan I've ever met
It's simple, because she hits those places, real, gritty, sexy, no BS and not afraid frankly to curse and be real. Metal above everything in my world, but yes, addicted to her music and has little to do with her looks. Music that affects comes from many places.
It's so interesting how young and innocent she sounds while singing "I'm your little scarlet, starlet..." But then the rest of the song it sounds very mature. I love that contrast.
Mm…not that she is innocent but mature at the same time..its more like…she is very mature and smart. She's seen quite a bit throughout her lifetime, so she knows how to get her way and all that. BUT she has the qualities of an innocent girl (Alt. sweet voice, beautiful, soft looks) and thats good to have. She can get what she wants with that "innocent" side. Its like a cover up for the "bad girl" It actually comes in handy if you ask me ;*
I love the fact that when she says "...fumes, says it feels like heaven to him," she sounds kinda like she's disgusted. It sounds like she's rolling her eyes and spitting the words back. I love the way it sounds so fucking much.
i love the quote from Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita, “light of my life, fire of my lions.” The protagonist refers to Lolita this way often throughout the book. Basically the whole song is a Lolita aesthetic and theme anyway, but I still adore that she uses an actual line from the novel Lolita to match with it.
Favorite things about this song: 1. The way the tone of her voice changes along with the story 2. The way she sounds confident, yet fearful at the same time 3. The way she says "Scarlet, starlet" and "Harlot, Scarlet" 4. "Says it feels like heaven to him" 5. "sorry 'bout it" 7. "You never looked as beautiful as you do now with my man" 6. the last "You are my one true love"
Is it possible that Lana is my favourite singer, just because I can't hate or even "don't like" any of her songs? The lyrics, the rithme and her voice are always so well together! WOW ...I'm just glad I found her
People have probably pointed this out before, but the noise in the background sounds like a playground/kids playing. In lolita, it ends with him hearing these kids playing and he realises he stole Dolores childhood so she never got to have that. I always thought that was a really cool reference
I´ve finished that movie literally 5 minutes ago and the first thing I did was listen to this fantastic song XD I was like man this line sound really familiar to me XD and it was a Lana songs XD (sorry 4 my english)
The way the song progresses from her just wanting to have a sugar daddy and the chic-ness and diva-ness to her falling in love and realising that he is all that she has left and loving him is absolutely genius(feels like heaven to me ;)
Anyone else think this is maybe her best song lyrically? It takes the same sort of thing she went for with songs like Video Games and Blue Jeans, as in the dependent dysfunctional relationship idea, but here she just expands it until it feels like a full story. Oh and she manages to chuck in a handful of Lolita references as usual.
The shouting at the background (I could barely make out some but some sounds like "up here!") adds such an interesting layer. It confuses me if it's her desperately looking for help or giddily inviting someone. Either way it feels like there are demented undertones which fits perfectly with a demented love song and that's one of many reasons I think Lana is an incomparable brilliant artist.
Okay so I did some research she does write her own songs or co-writes, like all artists they will colab together to create something but her songs are self written or co written,
the first time i heard this song, i thought it was about a young woman infatuated of an older man, and asking him to take her out to have fun. but then i realised that in fact is about a young woman who is about to be imprisoned, and this is a desperate call for help directed to an older fellow criminal (probably a dealer) who is the one infatuated of her, and she is using her charme to convince him to help her flee town. she is trying to manipulate him, when she is talking ABOUT the man, she uses her mature voice, but when she is talking TO the man she uses her childish voice, to make him think she is a little girl in trouble, but yet she tells him what to do (do what i want/gimme the gold/pay us), and eventually they do leave town. i love her story telling.
Patrick Fazeli it kind of is, because she is using him, but he is getting something is return, which is her company. both parties are using each other, but she has to pretend not being aware of this as a part of her manipulation. she leads him to think he is in charge, when in reality she is in charge. she is facing jail time, there is nothing left to lose for her, so he is taking the entire risk.
I love the different tones of Lana's voice, the melody of the song, the changes in the rhythm, and just this song all together should be played for hours on a loop.

this is one of the most difficult songs I ever had to sing because she goes from a deep voice at the start then to the highest pitched voice ever at the end
Not a fan of Lana Del Rey, but musically, vocally, structurally and production-wise it's one of the most interesting, unique and unusual songs I've heard
It shines. The story, the persona. Pure Americana. Film noire, 50s LA. That an individual could have created this vision of a woman's life is beyond me. An x-ray of the soul in all earnestness, and yet, it's capricious, spurious, mischievous. The lost woman as hero. And a triumphant Lana as songwriter and queen. The live version is polished, brilliant and captivating. When will she star in a David Lynch film? They must both humble themselves.
This song seems so screwed, but I love art cuz it's unapologetic you don't have to hold back. A lot of the shit u say in real life people hate you for u put it in song and people relate. This world is a weird ass place
Anyone I've told about Nabokov's novel cringed at first (best case scenario). You actually have to read the book to realise what's going on and what was the artist thinking when writing the lyrics for the song.
After a few more listens I have come to the realisation that this is one of Lana's best songs and the best one on the album. This is the kind of song a good vocalist/performer would LOVE to perform with all the cinematic and theatric elements, the voice acting and all.
+polly jagger I think honeymoon was one of her more chill albums. The born to die era was and always will be my favorite but I think Lana is testing different sounds with her music I think she'll go back to songs like this though
Amy Rose its my favorite book actually and i liked the movie too. I agree it is weird and the story sometimes makes you want to throw up but the writting is excellent.
Kat Blumenfeld I hadn't read your post and I posted the same thing! LOL It makes more sense "scarlet starlet" anyway because of "singing in the garden". She doesn't usually repeat words unless it's a chorus line and even then she might slightly change it depending on what line of the song she's on.
0:36 Song remind me I miss the Lana that sang with her nose. Like a little kid pouting. She used to add it in many songs early on. She no longer uses it.
I don't think this song is ONLY about Lolita, there are various things in here that Lolita actually could never do; there's references of the girl in this song using alcohol, partying, running around town, being chased by 'something', and obviously her 'old man' does/dabbles with drugs from the 'cocaine heart' thing, not to mention being a 'thief', or a bad man that she says in a way that doesn't just stop at him liking little girls. I think this is Lana's song for herself, with a Lolita fantasy to it. I'm not saying Lana was ever a 'Lolita', I don't know about that, but Lana has already told of her fixation on older men, many of her past boyfriends got in trouble with the law and did drugs, went to jail; I can't remember if she said she's ever been at odds with the law herself, but she did reference being a troubled/alcoholic teen, and that may have had her cross paths with authorities. That line with the 'cause he know I'm wasted' doesn't really fit the fictional Lolita, but it does fit Lana's teenage self; plus the 'Face'n time again on Rikers Island' indicate a past record with jail time; I don't know if Lana's been arrested before, but that's just more evidence that she's talking about (possibly a fictional version of)herself, and not Lolita. Let's not mention the many modern/Californian things in Lana's songs that the characters of Lolita wouldn't/didn't have access to. Yes, the book did influence this song and many others, it's her favorite book, I guess, but I think Lana has written her own little Lolita 'book' with these songs, and not just singing about the actual published story; I believe Lana's Lolita story is a dramatization of herself staring as Lolita and ex(es) staring as Humbert/'Old Man'.
I just want to say. I don't even listen to Lana DR. I just never really got into her. But this song is a masterpiece. This is one of the few songs I've ever heard where I stopped in my tracks and played it back so many times just to enjoy every aspect of it. The background music in the chorus is so powerful. Easily my favorite and one of the most musically pleasing stretches I've ever heard. The strong and "epic" / adventurous feel, against with her voice and lyrics just makes it feel like an exciting yet cathartic ending. A terrible ending you know is coming but you're hurrying to see what happened. Seriously bravo to her. 1 in a million song.
Without knowing the lyrics, the refrain makes me emotional. With her cute cheerful voice singing over the melancholy strings, it's like she is pretending to be happy.
No one will ever convince me that this is not one of her best songs. The background vocals during the verses alone are incredible. I hope she uses hard-hitting drums like in the pre-chorus again in the future.

@@poor.little.rich.girl.2566 Nobody does this like Lana. Her voice is a study in the balance of light and dark and she dances between them at will, in order to tell the perfect story. This is her gift. This is her power.
@@Cryogenius333 omg i absolutely love this comment.
@@Jeireme Poppy does it pretty well
@@Jeireme Jewel ~ when Lana sings high pitched with all her might she sounds like Jewel
"My old man is a batman"
Literally can't unhear it, even after the lyrics video :p
oh god-
One of the Greatest Songs Period. The structure, production, Story Telling…It Just transports you into it! The greatest songs of all time do just that, and I think this is one of them 😎❤️
Once you read the book Lolita virtually every Lana song gives you major feels and they all make a lil more sense.
Rozie yes !!!! Finally I was like understanding connections between different songs after I read it
Everyone's talking about Harley Quinn.
I'm fairly sure shes fairly heavily refferencing Lolita
Demonic Studios It is
THANK YOUUU
Nobodys talking about Harley Quinn
October Quinn+ The comment was posted 3 years ago, and majority of the comments shown are from 3 years ago. Of course you’re not gonna see old comments, they’re buried at the bottom you fuckin dumbass
@@Snow-xd4rv dude I was just saying I didn't see any comments about Harley quinn , plus I already looked at the bottom of the comment section and still was nothing about Harley quinn. Why can't I just reply to someone without being called a dumbass?! Gosh!
this is one of the most difficult songs I ever had to sing because she goes from a deep voice at the start then to the highest pitched voice ever at the end
1:45 Lana could sing the entire periodic table and I wouldn't mind
2024,, anyone??
Hey pretty, you know what year it is. The answer is always yes.
I've been here since I was 13 😔
Me ☹️ -28
Present
Yup!!!
Not a fan of Lana Del Rey, but musically, vocally, structurally and production-wise it's one of the most interesting, unique and unusual songs I've heard
I remember the first time I heard this song, it made me fall MADLY in love with Lana, a timeless classic!
the lolita references in this album are lovely
Thank god im living while lana is living
Such a godess !
How her voice changes during the song
This girl is a unique rare talent
True
Anyone I've told about Nabokov's novel cringed at first (best case scenario). You actually have to read the book to realise what's going on and what was the artist thinking when writing the lyrics for the song.
2:24 It's actually "I'm your little scarlet STARLET" not scarlet scarlet
Almost 5 years later and it still hits like the first time I heard it
"tell me that you own me..." why does that lyric resonate so much with me?
joydivisiongirl maybe bc you're kinky ;)
Sade Greene jesus christ
Maggie Rodriguez i thought it was funny actually. :)
Maggie Rodriguez lmao 😂😂😂😂
+Sade Greene you're right, i am...;)
The "scarlet scarlet" part was so good!!
After a few more listens I have come to the realisation that this is one of Lana's best songs and the best one on the album. This is the kind of song a good vocalist/performer would LOVE to perform with all the cinematic and theatric elements, the voice acting and all.
Literally obsessed with this song seriously haha
I love honeymoons so much but i wish there was a song as energetic and upbeat like this one. I mean talk about passionate!
+polly jagger i wanted a song like this one instead high by the beach, at least another "off to the races" in honeymoon :c
+polly jagger nahh i kinda prefer Honeymoon over Born To Die because it is able to relax me better
+polly jagger I think honeymoon was one of her more chill albums. The born to die era was and always will be my favorite but I think Lana is testing different sounds with her music I think she'll go back to songs like this though
+polly jagger I'm glad at least Honeymoon is upbeat than Ultraviolence, although I respect people who like her more chill songs.
I have been addicted to this song for 4 years now.
Calling it a masterpiece would be an understatement.
Lana deserved more success. She's a musical genius.
I finished watching Lolita and this song reminds me of it
Yolanda Rosuero specially lolita the fucking song thats he fav book a lana fan must now that now you know
Amy Rose great
yea the book is weird
Amy Rose
its my favorite book actually and i liked the movie too. I agree it is weird and the story sometimes makes you want to throw up but the writting is excellent.
it is the writing is better than 50 shades lol
still one of my favs from her. Feels like 4 diff angels blessing my earssssssss ugh
I always thought it was
"I'm your little scarlet starlet"
But maybe that is just me
Kat Blumenfeld it is the person got the lyrics wrong
Thank you for telling me
I thought it was Starlet Scarlet
Kat Blumenfeld I hadn't read your post and I posted the same thing! LOL It makes more sense "scarlet starlet" anyway because of "singing in the garden". She doesn't usually repeat words unless it's a chorus line and even then she might slightly change it depending on what line of the song she's on.
sombersecrets Nah, it's "Scarlet Starlet" But I get what you are getting at, they messed it up in the lyrics.
this song speaks to my soul
0:36 Song remind me I miss the Lana that sang with her nose. Like a little kid pouting. She used to add it in many songs early on. She no longer uses it.
I like to rub this song in anyone's face who tries to say she can't sing or has no vocal abilities.
***** That's the only good part of the song
Give them any of her songs, performances etc. No one can argue with them..
Nobody says that. Got your likes though
@@xeraza exactly. I'm like, who tf ever said that?
*Fun fact:* This song has 500 words in it
fr? ong?
@@edwarth42 yep it does 😭🤚 that's why it's one of her hardest songs to sing
Did you count?
@@imsickoflifeanditstactics5063 look for one of those lyrics sites and copy-paste it in a text edit app, the sort that keeps word counting
Damn 😲
“Because I’m crazy, baby I need you to come here and save me” 🙌🙌🙌
Isn't it supposed to go "I'm your little scarlet, starlet" not "I'm your little scarlet scarlet."
yuuup
+Hanji Zoe yup
I thought it was scarlet harlot 😅
lyzette ortega they have another line with scarlet harlot to
*too just on the subject of grammar and all... ;)
1 in a million song.
i agree with everything you wrote.
My old man is a Batman...
true..
dredeth 😉😐True #: bow with God -~ LOVE YOU "> I PROLLY Die
Stoppppaahhhh

Robert Pattinson?
after watching/reading Lolita this makes me think a lot from Dolores pov
Yes! "Give me them gold coins" is my favorite reference because without reading or watching the movie you would never get that!
which movie is better to watch the old one or the 90s one ? because I read the book but I dunno which movie to watch :/
+Alueta Milk Ross I would watch both but my favorite was the recent one because the filming style was so kind
+nancy gates okay I'll watch both, thank you :}
+Alueta Milk Ross no problem! I hope you enjoy them💖
"How did you know I have daddy issues?!"
Their favorite song:
does anyone else love the way she says scarlet at 1:10
every time she sings "they would rue the day" i think of nevel from icarly
Haha, me too.
HAHSHSUUS SAME
Omgosh Yasss I'm crying 😂😂
ME TOO HAHA
Without knowing the lyrics, the refrain makes me emotional. With her cute cheerful voice singing over the melancholy strings, it's like she is pretending to be happy.
Masterpiece
My favorite song!
This whole song (and arguably Lana's entire early career) is one gigantic reference to Lolita and I'm here for it
Is it just me or is there someone yelling "fuck you!!" in the background at 0:10
Lol ya I hear it too
i heard 'i'm here!'
Its "Up here!" I think. They also scream things like "Help me!"
I think those were samples of the crowd where she first performed this song. But that's just my guess :)
