Enya Patricia Brennan, known professionally as Enya, is an Irish singer, songwriter, record producer and musician. Born into a musical family and raised in the Irish-speaking area of Gweedore in County Donegal, Enya began her music career when she joined her family's Celtic folk band Clannad in 1980 on keyboards and backing vocals.
She left in 1982 with their manager and producer Nicky Ryan to pursue a solo career, with Ryan's wife Roma Ryan as her lyricist. Enya developed her sound over the following four years with multi-tracked vocals and keyboards with elements of new age, Celtic, classical, church, and folk music. She has sung in ten languages.

@@TheDivineMatrix Thank you so much for your empathy. We can talk to each other on the phone, but that's it. We live in Belgium and tomorrow the hospitals would allow 1 visitor for one hour/week... So we have to choose between my mother (who is 74 years old and doesn't understand everything the doctors are saying) or me, the only daughter... it's so sad for my mom cos if I go she's still not able to see her husband.. if she goes to visit him I'm not able to talk face to face with the doctors.

Simply Divine!! Thank you for this. Music and all the Arts can mean different things to different people. Even though Enya felt like this song was concerning her mother and all mothers everywhere, it means something completely different to me. Her lyricist, Roma, wrote the words. Enya wrote the music. Who knows what, if any, collaboration went on between the two artists concerning meanings, etc. I think that it really doesn't matter. I paint paintings which have meanings and symbols and all kinds of different expressions to me. However, others will view my work and come up with their own feelings, thoughts and interpretations. That is the purpose of the arts. Cathartic release is very personal as are meanings to each individual who participates in the experiences.

Enya explained : “When I moved to Dublin to work with Nicky and Roma (Nicky’s lyricist wife), I got to know her very well. Mona was her name and she passed away a few years ago. I can't get this beautiful song out of my mind! My interpretation (made without reading any others) this is thanks to a special parent whose support was unwavering while the child explored several life paths. The parent gave helpful advice and the child prospered. The child looks back now - the parent has recently died - but feels the love and gratitude so powerfully expressed in this song.
