Sydney certainly has one over Melbourne when it comes to airport rail access, whatever you think of the surcharge. I see the Melbourne Airport rail link was axed in the recent Vic State Budget.
Yeah the Victorian government just can't see the benefits of a train service to the Melbourne airport, but l here Avalon airport may get a train before Melbourne.
Melbourne might also have got the option of extending a tram route to the airport. Have the local government in Melbourne ever done a feasibility study into extending a tram route into the airport?
@@leeroberts1192 Hi, one would imagine so, and more than one report into such line to the airport at Tullamarine. I think the whole country would be beside themselves, when it's finally on the way, being built.
1:24 nice to see the DVA announcements are fixed it’s been more than a year now I remember first there was no “then” between the first stop and the second stop which I didn’t really mind because they didn’t just say “then all stations to” when only skipping 3 stops and then that was changed to a big pause between “and then” and another slightly smaller pause between “then all” and I thought that second one was going to be permanent but looks like it was a glitch after all and the DVA announcements are back to what they were pre 2023
My complaint is the $17 surcharge for using the train. $15 if you are a pensioner or child. Car parking is $25/ day suggesting a slight bias against families using the train. They will pay off the stations and be subsidising the Qantaslink slots after 2035.😊
Having not been to these stations, the first thing I noticed was the ballast track and not set in concrete as I thought all underground stations were (obviously not). The dust and crap must make a mess of the stations during trackwork .. Cheers
Interesting video. This is one line that I have never traveled on. My last visit to Sydney was early 2000, which was before the airport line had opened. Do these trains go through underground or above ground Central?
Having to take the T8 to the city is so draining, because I am forced to see everyone going on vaycay. 😔
"The doors will open on the left hand side of this train in the direction of travel."
Never heard that before on a Sydney train.
Only on Airport Station
@@EricYu1 Oh! It's exactly what you hear in Brisbane. I assumed there it's to assist people with impaired vision.
The one thing I love about Sydney is this, the Airport train! Meanwhile, the state I'm in pushed theirs back by four years 😩😫
nice to see the trains picking up speed again
Nice video phill!

How much is Tullamarine Airport playing hard ball and how much is lack of homework by both sides about likely patronage?
Yes, it's interesting, one group what's the rail underground, while the other what's it to be above, on a sky rail.
Thanks for another great video Phil, we fortunate to have trains servicing Sydney airports, we still waiting for a train service here in Melbourne
I think an airport link like the one Perth has would be more suitable for Melbourne than the Sydney model - much cheaper fares 😉

Awesome video! Phil!😊
Great Video Phil!
wow
Most of the trains that run on the T8 line is either a A set or a B set
During peak hour you will see M sets and K sets
Phill! if sydney had more airports!

Are you filming the Blue Mountains Flyer, Phil (tomorrow if you didn't do it today)?

The track through St James and Museum is ballasted.
