not necessarily, in elite show jumping and other equestrian sports, it's more common than you might think because it usually takes so incredibly long to get good enough to compete at the elite level, even though equestrian sports are so incredibly hard on your body and there's a certainty that you'll have (usually quite a few) severe injuries at some point in your career

At the height of her gymnast career, she was actually the world's best at vault. In fact even at 46, she won Gold on the vault at the Doha World Cup. The Double Layout 1/1 is named after her, it is also called The Chusovitina. She was one of the very best who could pull off this extremely difficult skill. This woman was not going to compete in the last Olympics because she said she would retire, but now she’s training again to qualify for Paris. She is my role model, and a fucking BEAST 🙌🏽
Oksana and Svetlana were some of the last top gymnasts of the former Soviet Union. One of their head coaches was Alexander Alexandrov, who later emigrated to the USA and trained former Olympian Dominique Moceanu at Karolyi’s for a while. In her book, she describes him as the best coach she ever had. He was tough, but he also knew when it was enough. When Dominique had a bad day or was tired or injured, he would see it and let her take it easy during training. Very professional, with a strict scientific training plan instead of bullying, drill and fear. Alexandrov was later fired by Bela Karolyiy, because the Karolyis believed his training methods were too soft! 🤦🏻♀️ I believe that Oksana got an extremely good foundation during her early years in gymnastics, which helped her body to develop enough strength. She wasn‘t burned out at an early age like many others. And she never lost her love for the sport. That’s how it should be!!
Dominique was a true prodigy, with unbelievable talent and potential. It's nothing short of tragic that the Karolyi's ruined her chances by pushing her too hard and causing her to injure herself constantly. On top of that she had to deal with the stress of abuse at home and having to actually emancipate herself from her parents. Pretty difficult to focus on your goals and training when you've got all of that going on in your life. Poor Domi. All the adults in her life failed her, and she burned out too early because of them
As much as I love love love Chellsie Memmel, Oksana Chusovitina right here is the TRUE PIONEER of Adult Gymnastics!!! She is the epitome of longevity and forever will be an icon in Gymnastics...❤️

I don't think anyone is denying Oksana as the queen of adult gymnastics. Chellsie's comeback is super notable because Martha screwed her over in her prime. Also, it's currently harder to make the Olympic Team in the US than any other country in the world!
