I cannot imagine a more compelling argument for the string trio, for this fine string trio, or for this extraordinary piece of music. I was transfixed by the sheer sound of it from the beginning, and a bit sad to come to the end. Yes, the sound engineer also gets highest marks, for sure, but let's pause simply to be grateful that musicians such as this are among us. What a gift!
@@Piflaser You're just a little mixed up, but headed in the right direction! Gounod's Ave Maria is a melody superimposed over an arrangement of Bach's Prelude #1 from the Well-Tempered Clavier. It's interesting that hearing this arrangement of the Goldberg this other Bach composition jumped into your mind! You may be interested in this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ave_Maria_(Bach/Gounod)
It would never been written in this form, without b.c. It sounds not baroque but like Gounod. Better to listen to Scott Ross or Alan Curtis who made the original.
Like many others, I'm deeply in love with this great work of Bach's. I'm quite familiar with the harpsichord and piano versions. But, believe it or not, this is the first time I hear (and watch) the string-trio arrangement. What a breath-taking experience for me! It's out of this world!
What a so great and beautiful sound of magic music. I'm just impressed and become lover and fan of your talent, that's amazing listening such these rare and lovely melodies in Heaven. Congratulations to you all ! 👏👏👏😇
WOW! This arrangement by Dimitri Sitkovetsky really brings out the best. These 3 musicians are superb & collectively they've created a multi-faceted jewel of a performance. I've read Bach wrote a musical "Unified Field Theory" with this & they've provided proof. [No wonder Glenn Gould did all that humming.]
some of the most incredible contrapuntally orchestrated music.; that with your eyes closed it feels as if naturally composed: each note appearing audibly with your very mind. Spooky!! they new something about left and right brain function listening effect and how one perceives. Love The Goldberg Variations
The work really blooms in this format - three lines can sing, sustain notes, choose gradations in dynamics - I'll stop there. Want to bet Bach himself arranged a version for trio, maybe left it in a taxi?
BRAVI! It is amazing how wonderful Bach's music is, no matter what the instruments. (And not Bravo, which applies to a man taking a solo bow. For a mixed group of men and women, it's Bravi.)
Until now my favourite rendition of the Goldberg Variations was by Wilhelm Kempff in the piano. This version is quite miraculous; not necessarily better but oh so different and one I will return to time and again.
Wonderful! i was interested to see how they (particularly the violinist) deal so well with the challenge of playing sustained notes in a way which does not obscure the lines as they would naturally be heard on the keyboard version.
It's amazing how Bach's music can be played on so many different instruments and it still sounds sublime. Try, say, Chopin on other instruments, it is horrendous.
my only complaint is that viola, by its physical nature, cannot project as well as the violin. The viola here is overwhelmed by the violin and the cello.
Beautiful sound is a pure joyl!!! I truly enjoyed this version. Thank you for uploading.
This is a triumph for Bach, Sitkovetsky and the Werbern Trio. I might even throw in a big thankyou to Mr Goldberg and his insomnia.
Insomnia of Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk, not Goldberg who was the one to play the variations
Coordination among 10 fingers of a single performer is a miracle; coordination among these 3 performers is, well you find the proper adjective.

lets not forget bach and his boundless awesomeness!
Every person involved with this deserves praise. It is something I will be listening to for years to come.
It sounds like Gounod's Ave Maria.

This is going to my list right now. Pure Bach's beauty. Never seen it played by a string trio.

I think so.
Humam Ghassib totally agree,
The French Ouverture is awesome, executed with such energy.
Stunning. Really demonstrates the amazing quality of Bach's writing.
I can’t believe you got 8 likes(including me).
I have enjoyed a blessed Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia listening to these wonderful musicians. Thanks for this performance.
Thanks!
Go Flyers:)
Non-vibrato is righteous! Una musica molto meraviglia!
Thank you for your sharing ~
Superbe version.
Absolutely stunning! I'll be listening to this rendition many times over. Thank you to all involved and to the individual who generously uploaded it.
It is as if JSB had written the Goldberg variations for string trio... A wonderful transcription and a great performance . Thanks!
This is utterly superb! Great playing and a wonderful rendition of the great harpsichord and piano work. A true revelation.
Stunning. And so beautiful! Thank you in the name of musicians over the world.
Imagining listening this rendition in the center of the forest~~:)
What a so great and beautiful sound of magic music.

One of the best executions of this speechless masterpiece. Pure music; pure grace. Of the Unknown. Thanks for post so admirable spiritual work.
This arrangement has been accompanying me during my hole life. And fortunately I‘m able to more or less master the violin and viola part. 💙
From all string versions I ve heard recently still the best one, the most balanced
The bass is beautiful here
I find the viola part beautiful ! Great sound!
I think so, too.
THIS send chills down my spine, so incredibly beautiful! Breathtaking piece...
If I could conduct Coaching through music rather than words, I would use this. Majestic.
Man würde am liebsten immer wieder Szenenapplaus geben.

A beautiful performance. Well done.
Also, a superb technical recording. The engineering crew at the Proms could benefit from your tutelage.
Wonderful sensitive ensemble playing.
J'en suis qu'à l'Aria et c'est déjà merveilleux =D

hermosa interpretacion tres grandes instrumentistas tres felicitaciones
Great arrangement, and incredible playing.
This is my absolute favourite version, love it!!

An amazing interpretation
The tempi throughout are probably the best I've ever heard. Slower than Gould's 50's recording but not as slow as his 80's.
I agree, although I still very much enjoy Gould's slow tempo. If you find this tempo appealing, try Koroliov.
thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out
So beautiful! Please record and release this!
there are several recordings on spotify for both string trio and string quartet!
This a beautifully arranged adaption for strings a joy to listen to
Que maravilla !!!!!! 😊
This is my favorite performance.
They walked, they served, they ate. 👌
This is great! I've never heard the Goldberg Variations performed by strings. BRAVO!
St. Martin in the Fields Academy

Maybe more likely used to wrap butter? Some of the movements are for four voices.
bezuglich Perhaps left it in a horse carriage.
oh my gosh. Goldberg with no piano or harpsichord? I love just the idea of it already.
and He said, "make a joyful noise unto the Lord." Well, here ya'go.
Oh my god...very beautiful sound!
This is SO beautiful and perfect ! Thank you !
So schön!!!
It's just wonderful fun with the trio.Love it! I am going to work on. The 1st on the piano.Bach is a composer one never tires of.
Breathtaking!!!!! Amazing!

¡¡ Grande !! Maravillo juan Sebatian Bach.
oh Amazing, wonderful..... This music leads me to fantasty beyond away.
I like the minimal amount of vibrato, and that violin isn't always far far out in front dynamically.
WOW ... just simply ... WOW!
Until now my favourite rendition of the Goldberg Variations was by Wilhelm Kempff in the piano. This version is quite miraculous; not necessarily better but oh so different and one I will return to time and again.

This reminds me of Mozart’s own arrangement of Bach’s WTK for the string quartet.
Gorgeous!
Superbe!

Simply beautiful
Perfect!
Fine work. Bravo!
