This fandub has made me more consciously aware of Jiminy Cricket than any other official Kingdom Hearts media.
What do you mean? He's pretty important in chain of memories and in games with the journal menu you keep opening it to see the new stuff that gets added over time.
@Lulink013 I have been aware of him in the journals, CoM, and Coded. Just not as much as in this fandub.
@Lulink013he isn’t important in Chain of Memories at all, he appears maybe 2 or 3 times and has no effect on the plot. The only time he actually does something is in Coded, and that’s the only game that has little to no bearing on the main story.

So Sora was a child soldier, became bloodthirsty, took over various kingdoms, died four times, took down death, the devil and the god of sex, then became a doctor and performed heart surgery on the universe.
That's quite the curriculum for a kid in the ages of 7 to 16.

I was super distracted for the last third of the dub because I kept trying to decipher what was actually going on in the cutscenes and accidentally getting invested in the wrong plot 😭😭😭
I wanted someone to acknowledge Sora saying he took a "hypocritical oath" so badly but Kairi obviously clocking it and then not getting an opportunity to bring it up was honestly way funnier
I felt the power struggle of the improv there. Penny really wanted to address that, Holly picked up on that, and she made the conscious decision to simply NOT STOP TALKING so that Sora's Hypocritical Oath would go unchallenged.

I love when Wayne gives the great big epic backstory just like off the top of his head, and then immediately pivots, drops all of that, and says "I need you to unlock my door, I was the villain the whole time because I wanted you to be a locksmith instead of a cardiologist that was my evil motivation this whole time."
When you realize partway through your monologue you set up a bit 2 hours ago that you need to pay off.
You can hear the actual, legitimate panic in his voice as he remembers in real time and drops character for a second and it's so hilarious.
really incredible that Baaulp set the cast up for an absolute slam dunk by saying all of the princesses are doctors, only for almost everyone else to immediately and hilariously say they have no idea what he's talking about. Baaulp is so cool

i haven’t ever played kingdom hearts but scorpy’s cid is killing me because i can feel the vitriol for whatever gameplay mechanic that is bleeding through LMAO
I'll explain, in the true Kingdom Hearts fashion of a massive wall of text;
The spaceship Sora and friends travel in is a Gummi Ship, made from Gummi Blocks and fully customizable(Space Engineers before Space Engineers, basically), with Star Fox-style sections between worlds where you fly and fight your way through enemy ships. Pretty basic in execution, of course, and later you can skip them.
You can just find extra blocks to make new ships throughout the game, but otherwise if it's certain sorts of Gummi you want, Cid is the guy who sells them in Traverse Town. The ONLY guy who sells them and the ONLY thing he sells, in fact; hence why he's so keen to be rid of those "cubes".
On another note, the second game had the Gummi Ship mechanic return, with less presence but much more effort put into it. I think Birth By Sleep had something similar, but Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days didn't do that, and I don't know enough about the other games.
As a kid I found the gummi ship mechanic confusing and didn’t know how to do it. As an adult I still just skip it bc it’s literally not necessary to upgrade the ship to progress the game. In fact you hardly have to try during the gummi ship flight sections of the game. It’s super pointless and there’s no reason to buy cid’s cubes

The fact that Kairi is the heart surgeon that saved Sora and gave him his dream is a masterstroke of emotional storytelling

okay but I need to mention it. with the knowledge of whats going on and that Sora was dead on the beach and that Kairi did heart surgery, the things Kairi says in episode 1 completely change context "I wont lose you, stay here... stay awake" "this is actually great progress, youre responding well" "right now you have to fight". it feels very medical like the real world is seeping into Sora's dream. hes catching bits and pieces of Kairi giving him heart surgery and checking in on him
yeah the intro was recorded after both of the improvised recording sections over the cutscenes so there's a lot of foreshadowing to different things in the dub

If they're planning an overarching plot they're playing 4-D chess with Xion trying to figure out why she's collecting seashell's to give to Roxas in hopes he'll eat them to feel better
