I can’t say thank you enough for recording and posting this video because I’m sure it saved me a ton. I removed old rusty capacitor and didn’t know which wires connected to new one. However, thanks to you it was easy to reconnect with the correct colored wires.
You work in a beautiful area, everyone appears to take great pride in their landscaping, even those in mobile homes. I wish my neighbors would watch your videos, great job!
At 6:55 You said "I guess they all can't be easy" That reminded of a old timer telling me one day "If it wasn't for the bad days you would never know you had a good day" that was 40 years ago I remember that like it said it today. Thanks Ted, job well done.
Good video, I have the same series Rheem 13AJA condenser in a 4 ton. The capacitor mounting is somewhat unique- probably did it that way to save space and/or have the body of the capacitor exposed to air flow for cooling purposes. My 4 ton unit has been in service for 15 years with, touch wood, no problems so far. But we’re in Oregon where we only use it for about 3 months during the summer.
you need to get you a fold up stool and a small power screwdriver they both really helped me with the arthritis in my hands and knees, and made the work on furnaces and condensers go faster.
Nothing wrong with a cap and go \ gas and go sometimes situations don't allow for more work always and I mean a man needs to eventually go home imo it's fixed so it's a win win great vid as always ... First channel I recommend to newer guys @ my work no BS and done the right way by a man who knows his trade and takes pride which u do t see as much and y I arrive for on a daily
Excellent job. The idiots that give grief probably have not worked for 16 or more hrs. trying to get customers back on line. There is a time for maintenance and a time for immediate repair to get people going. Thanks for the video's.
Nothing wrong with a cap and go I do that alot with all the units I have at work I take care of 350 units every day so far starting in May I avarage about 10 8n 8 hours with all kinds of problems keep up the good work
There are a lot of bad designs on a lot of products - these engineers that design these systems don't think about serviceability- probably have little to no field experience. Oh well not much we can do about it except complain. Keeps our blood flowing. Good video man!
the cap is mounted through the body into the condenser to allow airflow cooling! but guess what, what they did was learn it didn't help much because of how bad capacitors are made now lol.. many of them did that years ago, as I'm sure you know and the cap metal cans rusted through leaking the oil and cooking, granted that was often well in excess of 30 years run time :)
What I like about Ruud is it's very easy to take the side panels off to clean the coil. As far as capacitors go to you have to check every single time you do a service call, 90% of the time you'll have weak capacitors.. Kind of surprised to touched the capacitor without showing it out😬
ya'll are lucky on them disconnects! 8 of 10 are chock full of wasps here and I go fetching and stepping away from the swarm lol pretty much, just whack them with wrench and jump/run/watch, nothing comes out good to go...
If that’s all that’s broke then that’s what’s broke fix it and go other wise it’s like buying a new car just because you need a jump because you left your headlights on fix what’s broke any thing else is just an up sell buy the way love your videos
To you young guys (girls) out there, if ya got wet mulch, turn off 24v before tackling this. I am an old fart nearing retirement, found out the hard way that 24v can shock. Also, with this type of set-up, it eliminates the possibility of a short, which means ya have to go inside to replace the 3amp fuse.
So you take all the screws out of the door panel? Thought you justed pry it open with what ever you need to rip it open !!!! Then cut all the wire and twist tgem back together to different colors so it totaly burns up
My junior installers learned to be techs by cramping units. Lucky it wasn't a older unit. As you couldn't get it out. He'd need to mount it elsewhere. What's with rheem's plastic capacitors in some units?
Not only is mine like that, but it is also sealed shut in a plastic tube ,so I'm just going to leave the old one where it is and find a new location for the new capacitor
Cap and go are faster than gas and go, from time to time u have to cap n go if you want to still get home to watch wheel of fortune. Isn’t that right gunslinger !
From an avid viewer who in 1961 thought about a HVAC career then changed my mind. My question is did Rheem mount the cap that way to get extra air cooling? And if that's a foolish question, sorry and maybe why I didn't pursue HVAC. Actually it was because I am not a "people person". 😆
Can someone please help me? I have a old Rheem model number RPKA 031JAZ OUTSIDE UNIT and the wires burned from the Contactor to the Copasitor can someone please shoot me a video how to rewire it please, please
I hate that rheem design those caps just fit in the hole and if the cap swells up you have to be it out plus all the wiring is is the way as you figured out
it's called owning a small business... larger business should take note, but they're too busy pushing salesmen to sell new garbage systems for no reason other than to pad some fat slobs pockets ;)
i dont even know how i started watching this video goodgle hivemind knows i work in ac but shouldnt title be how to change a capacitor i mean a capacitor is a capacitor not brand specific

Thanks for your vid, I was able to fix my A/C by myself with the help of the video
4 years later and I can still say thank you for this video.
And thank YOU for watching !!

I believe Rheem typically mounts their run caps 'through frame' is so the body of the cap has air moving around it.
You are probably correct about the air flow to cool the cap.

You're definitely a soldier. Good job. In and out.
Thank you for the video. I replaced the capacitor myself! 😊
Thank you for identifying the colors of the wires that go to the capacitor. You solved my problem, thank you.

I always enjoyed those calls!

Wife to Ted: How did your day go? Ted: Pretty good , but I just got Rheemed on the last call.

I give you some grief! Good grief that was the quickest service call I've watched so far!
Get you one of those good CLC foam knee pads. Save the wife some laundry stains 😎👍
Money well spent
Cap n'go... LOL Gotta work in context of the situation. Good work...
That is a heck of a way to mount a cap bet it would be a fun one if it exploded like some of the videos I watched!
The design placement of the capacitor allows for airflow over it, rheem has a lower capacitor failure of any brand .
This sis my exact unit. Thanks for the help.
Nice quick repair. Have a good night.
Might need a new Microphone. (damn, I'm "one of those"). Thanks for the upload, never seen a recessed cap.

How long do capacitors last,my unit is 2011 ? Thanks
i changed the capacitor and it worked for 3 days now it wont turn on, i changed the part again and it still wont turn on?
Do I need to try to discharge the capacitor before pulling off the wires?
Always discharge capacitor first and shut off power from panel then go about the following steps
If that’s all that’s broke then that’s what’s broke fix it and go other wise it’s like buying a new car just because you need a jump because you left your headlights on fix what’s broke any thing else is just an up sell buy the way love your videos

Well done. This guy seems to know his business. He just needs a little cheese to go with his whine
Great Video

Watched the whole video ...... How do you replace the Capacitor? Just Kidding Ted Nice video. 😂
Those are called conductive washers. The name explains the use lol. You find them on Carrier fan guards and should be put back on.
Nice job
Same outdoor contactor push aftre compressor running what's problem.
Not only is mine like that, but it is also sealed shut in a plastic tube ,so I'm just going to leave the old one where it is and find a new location for the new capacitor
What told you that the capacitor was most likely bad?
Thanks mate!!
I’d would rather be in the wet mulch than only one foot of working space on a roof.
Cap and go are faster than gas and go, from time to time u have to cap n go if you want to still get home to watch wheel of fortune. Isn’t that right gunslinger !
slap-a-cap, see if line starts to sweat back and unit is pumping out heat, supply tail-light warranty and go lol

Funny enough most techs are very quirky and not good with people.
What do you think of the GE/Genteq capacitors?
They suck, used to be great, 20 years ago when made with pcbs/made in America
Can someone please help me?
I have a old Rheem model number RPKA 031JAZ OUTSIDE UNIT and the wires burned from the Contactor to the Copasitor can someone please shoot me a video how to rewire it please, please
save money on copper wire, make it take 2x longer to service, clearly that mounting system was a cost saving desgin.
Is there any negative affect on the cap being horizontal like that? I'm used to seeing them standing on end. Thanks for the great videos!
Not from an electrical standpoint. I would be worried vibration wise but meh.
Part number 12788 for those who need it.
I don’ have the number por the capacitor the person coming and check it say is 60+5 is correct 370 to 400 capacitor is ok
Daikin Heat Pump That’s Ductless
What was that tool you were using look like a adjustable nut driver?
It looks like a Klein 10 in 1 with a nut driver adapter. I noticed that as well and wonder where I could purchase one.
It's Klein's HVAC 8 in 1. Ive got a couple of those in my work van
@@azoutdoors2344 I always like new toys LOL that one just looks handy I'm going to check on the Klein site

not home before dark since June 1st. Why work that long. 6 calls a day max.. more is 2 much

I do the same thing
👍
They charge 100 dlls for hrs and they don’t hrs for do it
Didnt look that difficult to me once you cut the wire tie.
I thought they did that to make my life miserable when I have to change one of their caps and it’s too big and won’t come thru the hole?
Good cap and go home good videos
You Mean RUUD
Grief given... You just changed the cap. Lol, I would have done the same!
i dont even know how i started watching this video goodgle hivemind knows i work in ac but shouldnt title be how to change a capacitor i mean a capacitor is a capacitor not brand specific
To bad they weren't all that easy eh? Cheers
That was not their best design.
stop saying "SO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Typical horrible American design makes these things a struggle to replace.
