- I am super excited to share a brand new Video with you where I discuss my recent endeavours to make Dry Plate Tintypes commercially available. Dry Plate Tintypes are very similar to a more well known Wet Plate version. The main difference and advantage of Dry Plate Tintypes is that they are coated with Silver Gelatine emulsion which is then dried and therefore plates can be used for months and developed whenever you desire. As you will see in the video, the results are absolutely stunning!

On a side note, I've been using your wet plate holders, 4x5 and 5x7 for over a month and many plates, through them and I honestly have to say, they're very nice and there is no fogging at all.
Very well made plate holders, thanks.
Thanks Greg really appreciate it!
congratulations! new to the channel and new to the product. I hope to research it a bit more and hope you use it in the near future. Continued success.
Amazing man !!! What a great news!! This is what I was waiting for to try dry plates photography. It’s great that with this technique you can be able to transport the emulsion dry and have a positive image when you develope it. It opens a whole new world of tintypes photography
Yes it really does. Dry Plate photography on location where you can exposed develop and give the photograph to the client is now finally possible!
@@lostlightart6064 awesome 👏🏽!! Looking forward to see your formulas !! Great job 👏🏽
Share and learn I love it, great to see you back and I am looking forward to more.
Yes I think I will put this on one of the walls in my workshop :)
Wonderful - I have been wondering about dry-plate ambrotypes for some years now - and you have confirmed that it can be done. You have made my day.
Yes it can be and they are beautiful!
I live in Virginia, USA and right now it's been staying at an average high temperature between 85° F and 95° F with very high humidity as well, and I've had no issues with any Zebra Dry Plates.
@@fstopPhotography 🙌
Thank you so much for everything you do. Keep up the great work!!
Go go!
I will thanks!
Really glad to have you back 🙂
First many thanks for the custom dry plates, and secondly I look forward to trying these tin type plates when released. Keep up the great work you do in this field of photography.
Thank you Graham. I will 🤗
Good going!
Thank you 🙏
Hi Nejc, Great to see you are having some fun and able to carry on some R&D experimentation, not just a slave to production. Paul Gough.
Yes Paul its nice to escape the workshop at times and thinker about new techniques:)
Well done. I am looking forward to trying those glass and tin plates for unique 8*10 portraits. Cannot wait till they are launched. Good luck.
Thanks Phillip :)
Great! Looking forward to seeing your further developments.
Thanks Terry
Thanks for all your efforts... look forward to seeing how you make these beauties!
Thanks Jonathan 🙏
Good job:), you made me want to start this type of photo process, i've just bought my first 9x12 plate camera, i'm so excited thank you!
Great Giacomo I bet you will enjoy as much as we all are :)
So exciting! I'm loving the Dry Plate Ambrotypes from Jason. Can't wait to give Zebra tintypes a go too!
Thanks
GWTMC, can you share your method for ambrotypes? I am just trying to figure out the chems and dilutions. I have some more 4X5 and 5X7 J. Lane plates - don't want to waste more experimenting. I have some Lost Art Light plates coming.
wonderful , wonderful
thank you.
You are welcome
Awesome! It would be great if you could do a separate video on creating a positive glass plate. I shot 2 plates this weekend, both through a pinhole and the exact same exposure. The first plate turned out great with HC110 B, the second one was a complete failure. I used the formula you stated for the tintypes and did something very wrong. I'll have another go this weekend. Great stuff, thanks.
This is amazing, man!
thank you Chase
Thanks great ! Do you thing this method (with ammonium) works with old gelatino-bromide dry plates ?
Nice to see you aganin Nejc :)
That's a very exiting news, I guess the plates will come already coated ? I checked recently the J-Lane Dry Plates. I'll wait for yours ;)
Hey Francois. Great to hear that you got enchanted with dry plates as well I bet you will have fun using them ;)
This is exactly the kind of video I've been waiting for. I've been wanting to try dry tintypes after having success with my first batch of dry glass plates.
But more info regarding development would be great. :)

Thanks for this video. Do you know where I can find AMMONIUM THIOCYANATE in EUrope ?
Hi! I wanna ask where do you buy the silver nitrate to make the photofraphic emulsion? Thx for reply!😊
Any chance of getting the Tintypes in 9x12cm, too? Would love to try them.
This is something I would absolutely pay money for. No - thank you! 👏
Hehe. Thanks!
Very nice indeed ! I just wondered if the aluminum plates will fit into the sheetfilm holder (since they are thin..)
Hey Rolf. Unfortunately not as the tin plates despite beeing very thin are still much thicker that sheet film. Zebra Dry Plate holder with adapter or Zebra Wet Plate holder would have to be used
@@lostlightart6064 I see, thanks for the fast response !
I really appreciate you sir, your videos are super inspiraring helps me a lot! Please keep your passion!
There is one question I would like to ask. I live in tropical area and I would like to try dry plate outdoor. It's usually super hot outside (30-35 degree celsius/ 86-95 Fahrenheit). Is it possible for me to bring the dry plate outside to shoot? Will it melt/ dissolve? Do you have any experience in this hot situation? Please help me!
Thank you for your effort on sharing with us! I really appreciate!
Hey. First of all thank you for the kind words. When it comes to hot environments Dry Plates are gonna handle that easily as when emulsion is dry it will withstand very high temperatures 😉
Did you mean "Ammonium thiocyanate" ?
I couldn't find anything about Ammonium thiocyanide - perhaps it's the same?
(I just ordered some of your plates to give this a try so want to get the correct chems)
Yes you are right Richard it’s Ammonium Thiocyanate! Thanks for supporting my craft 😊
