As a relatively new mobile dj I recently picked up lights specifically 2 chauvet gigbar 2.0s and run the on sound mode and couldnt complain. Created a club like atmosphere in the room, the difference between no lights and lights is phenomenal
I’d like to suggest Wolfmix W1 if you’re moving into the area of controlling multiple DMX fixtures (heads, wash, up lights etc). Easy to setup and program various scenes/looks, save them and replay back at a gig. Controller is built like a sampler and free standing - no laptop. Really easy to hit a new scene after mixing tracks, synced to bpm, or use line in from controller or ableton link (laptop req). I think well worth a look if you’re happy to spend the money.
Im a DJ on Twitch and i have a full lighting setup. I can highly recoemend a par can, 2 + moving heads, and a budget smoke machine with decent fluid. Get yourself a SoundSwitch USB DMX interface , it really ads alot of energy to your sets ! Been waiting for you to makea video like this an i think you did a great job !
I know I'm a few days late, catching up after moving, but I have a few comments/questions. What do y'all think about Bluetooth controlled lighting? I know Chauvet made an app at some point but I have no idea what lights actually work with it. Personally thought it would be pretty cool for mobile DJs. Second question was about Virtual DJ's lighting integration, did they ever do that and how successful was that integration if they did? Huge fan of Chauvet products atm. Use 2 Swarm wash Fx's and 2 Wash FX Hex chained together in automix mode (minus strobes). Covers a huge area, puts on a good lightshow for a wedding, and was reasonably affordable. Also use the EZPar 64 for battery powered uplighting. Nice solid little units, not too expensive. They get the job done.
I’d recommend going with someone scalable such as GrandMA Dot 2. You’re able to design through their 3D software and practice/design without having everything setup. The adapter is $150ish and the software is free. If you ever plan to step things up, your project file is convertible to GrandMA 2/3 aka THE pro level software. It’s a learning curve for sure but sets you up for scalability in the future.
I like to use inexpensive led outdoor flood lamps for up lighting! 25$ gets you Small, bright, comes with a remote, you can get an app that makes them dance to music!
I use Phillips Hue with djay Pro AI, and it works, but only with a Windows computer listening to the DJ audio. I have tried everything to make Hue Sync work on Mac, and it’s just terrible - messes with the audio pipeline, and doesn’t work in a Parallels virtual machine, but the same app is surprisingly good on a PC. I keep my 2012 Bootcamp’d MacBook Pro around just to listen to the mix and control my Hue Bridge. I’ve asked Algoriddim to partner with Phillips Hue (and hopefully they also partner with Nanoleaf) to make this not such a drag.
There was a question regarding the nanoleaves being to bright for the cam. Guy probably is never going to see this comment. But for those that also have this problem. You can do 2 things. One put the brightness lower of the nanoleaves. and 2. reduce the gain of your cam settings. Usually people pull up the gain if there is not enough light in the room. Problem with that is that everything that was darker becomes lighter including the nanoleaves panels what now has become to bright as a result. For the best nanoleaf result. set the gain 0. changes are you room is now to dark. Then you just need to put more casual lights in your room to make it more light. Less gain is better image quality. (not just for nanoleaves but in general)
Very weak video... instead of talking about spot lights moving heads, lasers, wash lights and even smoke machines and show them (even cheap stuff from amazon) that are you can find in clubs etc... you talk about geeky stuff and mainly about nanoleafs. People that are into Djing want real Dj lighting. I suggest you, to do a similar video with the different and proper types of lights and show examples in your studio! Forget the nanoleafs.
I’m hear for the lights, it’s all about the atmosphere, the music is so much better with colors and light
It is indeed
Soundswitch is awesome so far. I'm still learning it.

It certainly will be with that awesome little set-up, thanks for sharing.

Great tip, we'll include this in the guide - we've heard lots of good things.
What a coincidence I was just googling around about this. Thanks a lot.
Dude! Me too! Freaky.
Glad I could help!

Yes can work well

Glad you found your perfect light.

Let's hope they do! And thanks for the feedback.
For starters,is it better to start off with a stand where you can put several strobe lights and and light and lasers for starters.
It depends on your type of gig. This may be good for teenage parties, but you'd want something more classy for weddings, for instance.
Can you use the engine lighting software at the same time as either VDJ or Serato ??
No
My lighting rig:
1: the spinning LEDs on top of my Hercules DJ Party 32 speakers.
2: USB lamp that plugs into a power brick or laptop
3: that is all 😅
And that looks great, I'm sure! :)

Thanks, but you don't know our hobbyist audience.
Can't wait to see your video explaining the subject
I agree. Feels like a hidden commercial
