The utility of the different filters and the control possibilities in this pedal that’s inside the boss gt3 (among the rest of the pedals boss had made at the time) are very dynamic and the functionality is so superb
This is actually a great pedal. I've had many different types of auto filters. Maxon af01, Mutron iii, maxon af9, DOD fx25, etc. It's all application. This auto filter has so much to offer. Plus they go for cheap. Around $50 - $60. Don't listen to the bad reviews. At this price you can't lose. Hope this helps for someone considering and on the fence.
Yeah, I had this pedal years ago. Very, very cheap sounding as is the Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter which was released roundabout the same time. The "sharp" and auto/tempo modes are the only modes worth using. Pure novelty. Nothing more. Don't get me wrong, it's nice enough in those 2 modes but a novelty all the same.
Quacks clean with the best of them. How does it sound under higher gain amp settings? Good if you play funk. It's also good if you play funk. It really shines if you play funk. Funk. Funk. Erase all numbers/letters off the dials, every setting is funk. Have it, can't give it away.
Once people get over the novelty of it, it's pretty useless. Only of any real use if you want a lot of tight tempo set rythmic wah and can't be bothered to use a traditional foot operated wah. The sharp mode is quite synth like which is quite nice but a novelty all the same.
@@foxhound5702 it's just a matter of open/close frequencies in those inputs. I got 2 wahs: Gtr->Wah [CB]/D Wah[Boss]->Noise Killer [EHX]->Dist->Amp. Try whatever you got after/before Wah ... and keep the set up the way you like. ;)
Would this be a good option for a paraplegic? Seems like it. I am trying to accumulate as many items to support handicapped (paraplegic and partial quads) as I can find. This seems pretty much one of the things I have been looking for. Thanks!
The guitar input is too piercing to my ears .... that's why I use the BASS INPUT instead ... the Hendrix-esque tone I get out of this "channel" is GOLD .... thanx BOSS for this hidden feature !
this is the first video of this pedal that someone used a expression pedal with it but i still dont know if i can use it how i want, i really want an EMB Audio rack wah but they are hard to find and expensive but its the best wah system ever by far and i thought i could use this as a cheaper solution but i cant find one to try in a store where they have an expression pedal to use with it, I'll have to find out later
The expression pedal is sold separately which is not a good way to go for the company or the customer. You might as well buy a good quality wah if you're wanting expression as the tones on this don't justify extra expenditure.
Imagine not buying a pedal because you heard it through shitty RUclips compression on a rig that’s prob nothing like you own. Just go to a guitar store and try it out fat ass
The PH-3 Phase Shifter pedal released by them around about the same time sounds even worse 😂. Tones that absolutely no one wants to listen to considering the warmth that came from their previous generation of pedals.
This thing does not sound good, it's filter sweep is average to say the least. It's noisy as all heck to boot. The boss tuner, ds1 and ds2 are probably the best they got. Sorry, it's true. Oh wait, and that one delay pedal they make isn't bad either.
I have no noise problems with it unless I stack it with already pretty noisy fuzz pedals. Also, like most of boss pedals, the knobs are very sensitive; you can get a really good sound, but you need to spend time on it, which is definitely not ideal.
There's an awful lot of good Boss pedals. I own fifty myself. The recent modelling pedals or digital distortions are not my cup of tea I must admit. But the Waza series are excellent and most of the ODs from the past are great too. The DM-2 and 3 are superb plus the great line up of analog Chorus units. To say they only have a few good ones is not true but each to their own. Auto Wahs are either love hate but you won't be playing it for every song will you?
Go and buy your 'Boutique' pedals at their stupid prices then. Check out Brian at Wampler pedals on youtube. He's proven 'Boutique' pedals are generally pedals that were once Boss, MXR or Ibanez pedal designs with tweaked circuits, re-boxed and double the price with crappy designed graphics on. Boss pedals are generally good. Come with a 5 year warranty too. Been making pedals since the mid '70's too.

Pity about the cheap sound coming from this though.
I think Boss were trying to cut costs at the time?

I lost. Utility scores is right up there with the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone. Novelty pedal.
I just prefer the sound of my dod fx25, but that's just me. I think this is just a bit too bright for my tastes.
😍😍😍😍
@@parker486 The AW 3 is a horrifically digital, cheap and thin sounding pedal. Remember it well.
Love my BOSS AW-3 from Adawliah Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia
This pedal gets to be very trebly with the wah in effect. Did others notice this?
Plug into the bass input instead of the guitar input. Doing that worked with my Boss flanger, so it should work with this.

I’m watching this on my phone at maybe half volume and every single setting is an ice pick in my ear haha needs a GE-7 to tame that high end
I just noticed the crazy noise floor.
@@bwrinn8 The AW-2 is even noisey-er.

I disagree. You can totally give it away. To me. For funk.

How so?

Came for the AW-3. Stayed for the guitar.
Damn, the pedal sounds terrible though.
HAHAHAHAHAHA yes!
It was an impulse buy for me, didn't really know what I was getting, but I greatly enjoyed playing it, actually. Dunno what you're talking about 😆
@@denisborzov8406 The pedal has nothing to offer other than sheer novelty and sore ears.
There's no quality of tone.
Very thin, tinny
You should do a demo using the BASS input. I use the BASS input always to get that Hendrix throaty tone
Is it ok to use the bass input when chaining it together with multiple pedals?

I have one :v

I wanna get one so I can play the solo for Weezer's "Beverly Hills". Not the whole song, just the solo. That's all I need this for
It's like a wah and phaser having a child
how to set this pedal combined with distortion or overdrive pedal?
Same as you would with a regular wah,
Choose if you lije how it sounds before and after distortions (though it'll probably sound best coming before)
I use it in th BASS INPUT to get a Hendrix vocalesque tone. The wrong input ( guitar ) is too pietcing ! ! !
LOL that Tele
Sounds terrible, thin, tinny, ear piercing and on top of that Hella. Noisy. Thanks for the demo. Will seek another pedal.
I had one and yes, it's quite nasty on the ear.
Anybody using this would have to spend a bit of time re-adjusting their amp E.Q etc.

It doesn't help that the guitar has p90 pickups...
Again a very clever and necessary comment from a forum champion that only judges gear from RUclips vids.
Annoying. Headache maker...
