Step One, remove Ring Doorbell. Step Two, place on a hard surface. Step Three smash into little bits with your choice of objects, boots may work while wearing them. If in doubt use a large hammer. Step Four, never buy a Ring doorbell again.
Yeah, I got a Ring doorbell last week, spent all weeeknd faffing around, tried every conceivable option, including moving the router, installing a booster, changing channels in the router app, still could not get a reliable connection. Life's too bloody short so I've sent it back to Amazon. Oh, BTW, then hidden in the manual it says that concrete and blockwork can affect the signal strength... ah ha, now what is my house built from! Classic.
Same issue's here, finally got a connection and signal strength 48 (green) but loses connection as soon as front door is closed over..? My router is just inside the front hallway (moved from living area) around 2 meters max from front ring doorbell. Any ideas..? It connects really fast, the when I try to view the 'live' feed, says installing updates and may take 15 minutes. After this it also disconnects again.
I don't have any power sockets near to the ring doorbell, so I've plugged the chime pro into a Jackery 500 portable power station, its nice and close to the doorbell now and the RSSI value is good.
Thanks for the video. I have Google Mesh which gives a very strong signal all around my property - except, it would appear, to my Ring doorbell. RSSI -79. Standing next to the doorbell with my phone, maximum wifi signal so I decided to remove the bell and stand next to my Starlink router. Result: Poor wifi connection to doorbell. Every other device in the house works perfectly,...the problem is obviously with Ring.
I was sent the Ring chime Pro that everyone said was crap and my back door bell is now solid. 50 RISSI and instant live feed. Using it with my super duper Mesh. 😁😁
The thing is the doorbell is outside your property. They were not designed for brick walls 😂. The signal just dropped when it went through the external wall to the doorbell. They must have shit antannae as all my other devices work outside but if you press my phone to the brick its connection drops as well. I rang Ring and said how can a doorbell not work when screwed to a wall? They sent me a free Chime Pro with WiFi extender to sit just by the door the bell is on and it worked.
Thank you. Wish Ring would change that RSSI value, and just have excellent to bad for example. 99% of Ring customers won’t understand this terminology. Or maybe just a % etc
great video bud! the mesh network was a bit out of what i was willing to spend and it would have basically been an entire infrastructure! i went ahead and added a $50 2.4ghz long range access point to my network and its working like a charm!
Thanks 🙂 Yes, mesh systems are a bit expensive I agree, but I'm glad that you had good results with a 2.4Ghz long range AP - that definitely sounds a good approach.
Hello, i have following problem. I bought the Ring Doorbell 2 and everytime when i try to live view, i have either a loading circle or streaming error. My RSSI is always -33. My router is in the next room (next to my housedoor) and it is not working.
Hello, hmm sorry to hear that. It sounds like it could potentially be an app issue. Could you try out the Rapid Ring app (it's a separate app, but still from Ring). If it works fine, then it might be worth reinstalling your main Ring app.
What do we need to do to disconnect our ring spotlight cam from our present wifi and then connect it to our newly purchased wifi extender device? Thanks ☃️🌲

That's interesting, glad to hear you pretty much fixed the RSSI errors with a small router move. And yes, I do like how Ring integrates really well with Amazon Echo and Alexa 🙂
@@scottellis5911 It might have something to do with the antenna used by the wired-Ring. If the antenna is very small, it may not work as well as a larger one. Hmm sorry I don't know why that's happening. It does almost sound like a time out issue you're right. Maybe try the old 'turn it off and back on again', but other than that you might need a (lengthy) call with Ring Customer Services unfortunately 😔
I have the Ring Pro. I set it up. It corrected the problem and then now it's back to saying poor wifi connection again. It's on my front floodlight camera. My wifi is fine though. The router is probably more than the required max 30 ft from the camera but cannot be moved. Wat should I do?
Ugh sorry to hear that. Did anything else change recently (that caused it to drop back to a weak signal)? If not, you might want to consider adding some extra Eero points. These connect to the Eero router inside your Ring Alarm Pro and will extend the range of your WiFi network.
Thank you for the video! When you say "wifi point", do you mean a wifi extender? I have an outdoor Ring camera that doesn't receive good enough wifi signal. I plan to add a dual band TP-Link range extender in the area that is closer to the camera. Do you think this commercial extender helps? Many thanks!
No worries 🙂 Ah apologies, theat term is a bit general and could mean WiFi extender, WIFi access point, WiFi repeater etc. However the basic idea is the same: connecting to the existing router, then broadcasting a new WiFi signal (either under the same WiFi network name, or a new one). Hi i have the wired doorbell connecyed via the plug in adapter, all wired in according to the instructions went into settings and health check and transformer voltage says warning and says disconnect doorbell wires now and my transformer is supplying more then 24vac?
Hi, hmm that's an odd one. If you're using the Ring transformer, or a similar third party one, you shouldn't get any warnings 😕 Maybe double check the voltage with a multimeter - and if it persists, call in an electrician? It sounds a bit worrying, but hopefully it's just the Ring app being buggy.
Hello 🙂 I have an Eero 6 Pro and that works out pretty well for speeds - it's over a gig on the 5 GHz band. It's easy to extend with both the 6 Pro and other Eero routers (if you see any others in a sale), which is a nice feature.

I recently got my first ever ring doorbell and have a mesh Wi-Fi node a foot from the front door and it still keeps going offline or refuses to show live view even with an average RSSI of -50. My Kami Wi-Fi cams are an entire floor away from the nearest mesh node, yet I can still get a 1080P live stream from them every single time, within one second of connecting, so the Ring doorbell must just have cheap Wi-Fi chips inside, or rubbish firm/software. I have changed the Wi-Fi channels etc but still they often refuse to show the live view. Very annoying.
BIG THANKS got to be the best vids on you tube when explaining about the ring doorbell well worth watching all vids and a MUST to subscribe. Thanks for all your help.
Ring doorbell 2 has issues with wifi. That is a 3 year old doorbell still working fine on original battery. Just got a Ring wired doorbell and it has no issues with wifi strength. Seems like the older ring doorbells had a weak wifi receiver chip.
I used to connect to 2.4ghz but my wifi provider combined 2.4ghz and 5g together into one. After that my ring doorbell 3 is unable to connect to Wi-Fi. How can I fix it. Thanks.
Uhm, some routers do just publish a single WiFi network name (for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands), but that should still work okay. My own router does this (i.e. publishing just one WiFI network, over both bands) and my Ring doorbell and cameras still work fine. To be honest, I would try setting it up again via the Ring app - it should be able to connect fine. If not, you could try going into your router's admin console (the details are often on the sticker on the router's back) - this might allow you to revert the previous WiFI settings change.
my ring door bell has line of sight view from about 7m and its giving me a rssi of 71 after i had moved the router from behind a wall when i wasnt even getting a RSSI error. please explain this.
Ugh sorry to hear it. Honestly, I can't explain it - it sounds like an incorrect RSSI error to be honest. The only other explanation is that there's other WiFi interference in the area, and the new location is affected by this. Sometimes changing the WiFi channel within your router's admin panel can help here.
It's also based on the chipset used in the product. The IEEE 802.11 standard (a big book of documentation for manufacturing Wi-Fi equipment) specifies that RSSI can be on a scale of 0 to up to 255 and that each chipset manufacturer can define their own “RSSI_Max” value. So which chipset is in your troubled unit?
My camera has been fine, no network changes but all of a sudden this has happened. I get motion alerts but no video. I even has a router ext next to the door where the camera is located
Hmm that's frustrating. Is it only your Ring devices with issues? (As in, are your other WiFi devices okay?). If so, maybe it's some sort of Ring bug... but it unfortunately will be hard to 'fix' beyond maybe resetting everything and/or waiting a week or two 😕
Hmm, maybe check your WiFi signal strength? Plus if you're using mesh WiFi, sometimes Ring can have issues with that. It does sound like an internet issue though, which is essentially blocking the Ring doorbell 'messages' from hitting the Ring cloud servers. 😕
Thanks for the video. Got a fairly bad RSSI AT -75. Running wifi off of a mobile hot spot (nighthawk by netgear in a remote location with only a few bars of ATT coverage, no other options exist. Connected Ring Floodlight to the network initially, worked fine for a few weeks but then went dead as soon as I left he area (coincidence for sure) - floodlight showing offline, but logging movement. Do you think Ring Pro extender might help the situation, or at that low of a level running on mobile hotspot, it is unlikely anything would work? Thanks for the advice in advance.
Ooo that's a tricky one for sure. The fact that it's a remote location with only a few bars is probably your main issue yes (unfortunately). A Ring Chime Pro wouldn't help here because the underlying connection (the hotspot) is weak - sorry. Maybe satellite internet could work here? It wouldn't be cheap, but it should deliver a solid solution.
@@SmartHomePoint Thanks for your input. Despite the warning, I went ahead and installed the Chime Pro. Placed it close to the floodlight camera and reconnected to Chime Pro network. The signal strength improved to -42 and the device seem to be humming. I do see an occasional offline drops, but overall its running. Fingers crossed this continues. I'll report if anything changes.
Hi I installed ring doorbell wired and the volume output is too low! What did I do wrong? I installed it with a transformer. Please help as I can't find any information on what could be causing issue.
Hmm okay, double check Device Settings -> General Settings within the Ring app. The volume there controls all Ring speaker volume. Also try checking the device health, incase the voltage is listed as too low somehow.
@@SmartHomePoint it says transformer voltage good and I've increased volume all the way up. I read somewhere that if you install a transformer that it needs one more piece for the volume to work properly. But I dont know what that one piece is.
Hmm that's all odd. I don't know for sure sorry... but the only missing piece I can think of is the white power kit. It's called different things: Pro Power Kit, Pro Power Kit 2 and Doorbell Bypass. That's the only thing I can imagine might have some impact here.
i just got ring cameras...5 of them and a doorbell...my RSSI is high on most of the cameras...i spoke to a rep and he said to get the LINKSYS-RE 7000....what do you think...it's not a router it's a range extender...i have an almost 3,000 square foot home...thanks...
Something like the RE7000 will work for a single part of your home, but there might be other WiFi dead zones/low signal strength area too. Since you have a big home, a WiFi mesh system with 3-5 points might be better - but that's a bigger cost again.
Hi Tristan, thanks for your video. I have cameras outside with poor signal strength. I’ve bought a ring Wi-Fi extender and put them right next to these devices (less than 5 yards) but this hasn’t improved it! Any ideas here please? Thanks, Mike
Hi Michael, sorry to hear it. By Ring WiFi extender, do you mean the Ring Chime Pro? If so, that should help if it's positioned between the router and your outdoor cameras. But just make sure that you have reconfigured your outdoor Ring cameras to use the Ring Chime Pro, not your standard WiFi network. Other than that, a full blown WiFi mesh system (such as Eero 6, Google Mesh WiFi etc) will help a lot, but this is a more expensive option.
From inside your router's admin panel. The exact steps will vary for every router, but the WiFi label with your password will often contain details for the admin panel too. So login there, and then look for the "WiFi settings" (or similar) section.
what is the best rssi signal you can get mine is 21 ??some times it pick`s people up when there on my front door and other times it pick`s them up at my gate!.
Oo that's pretty good! The best I've seen is around 30. I checked now and two of my devices are at -32 and -33, although I do recall seeing this a little better.
That's an interesting question. It's difficult because there are a few possible causes. If you have pretty slow internet (like 1-5 Mbps) then the Ring recording would probably be using up a fair bit of your bandwidth, resulting in your video game lagging. So check that first. But beyond that, it's hard to say unfortunately - there could be loads of possible causes.
I have the ring video doorbell 4 and won't connect to 5ghz but I noticed only on certain channels which seem to be virgin media's channels. I'm on BT and saw you had it on 5ghz and wondered how you managed to do that?
Hmm that's interesting, that sounds frustrating for you sorry. In my case, I didn't do anything specific - my Ring Pro just autoconnects to 5 GHz each time. I guess I got lucky. Some routers (e.g. the eero Pro) now offer "client steering", to direct devices onto 5 GHz, but even this isn't guaranteed.
Maybe I'm getting confused, however a smart device's WiFi signal can't be fixed by running an electrical cable to it. Unless you mean buying an Ethernet camera, and running an Ethernet cable to it? That would definitely fix any poor WiFi signal issues, yep :)
@@SmartHomePoint yeah, I was referring to solder a wire to the antenna but it won't work. Maybe I'll use a wifi repeater but it would take an extra outlet...
@@SmartHomePoint Ok thanks for that, sorry not the best around tech another question i would like to ask you please is will the 1st gen chime pro work with the 2nd gen doorbell as i have been looking and they both seem to run on 2.4ghz if i am right not sure thanks for all your help.
I was wondering why my Chime Pro wasn't working. I forgot I needed to make sure my devices are not running on the regular WiFi. I will do that once I get home lol
Some routers give two networks - one which ends in "-5ghz" or similar. In that case, unless you're connected to the other 5ghz network, you'll be on 2.4 GHz. However if you don't see two different networks, you would have to go into your router's admin console. Under there, you can see connected devices and it should tell you whether they're connected as 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi.
-62 is not too bad. I'd probably consider it 'okay'. You might have some disconnects (as you mention) but overall it should work most of the time. Keep an eye on it though incase you need to try and improve the connection strength.
@@SmartHomePoint well this morning, the video is reddish/tinted pink color. At night, I couldn’t see the discoloration. Video still works but color is off. Maybe I should reset it?
Yep, try a reset. To be honest, I don't think that what you describe is related to your internet strength - it sounds like more an issue with the IR cut filter (I discuss this more on my blog: www.smarthomepoint.com/ring-pink-purple-or-green-video/ ). In addition to a reset, try toggling the color night vision mode on and off.
Changed my wifi channel from smart 1 to 11 and it reduced my RSSI from -58 to -51 a slight improvement but better than nothing don’t understand my ring door bell is 10ft away from a wifi extender socket :/.
I'm getting 56 to 60 on mine, while it works the video is blotchy so I'd assume I need to decrease that some more to decrease the blotchyness? I have a camera SD card in my garage and didn't think the Ring camera would be a downgrade to that, but so far is. Hoping dropping the number down some will get me better clarity. Anyone have a similar situation?
Hmm yes, that could definitely be the cause of the lower than expected video quality. Ring does downgrade the image quality when the internet connection is weaker.
@@SmartHomePoint I've done the internet check for my internet speed rate and according to Ring they want like 1.5Mps, which mine is about double that so they say that part is good. While I know my internet speed is nothing to brag about according to Ring I'm good there. Yet it looks like RSSI -60 or above isn't ideal and I'm nearing that. So probably my first thought is to update the router as mine is a few years old. Then move on from there to add an extender or change router placement. Ideally if I don't have to change router placement, I'd prefer that as if I do It's going to open more cans of worms.
Ah cool, yes it sounds like the WiFi signal is the main issue then. Some routers have a lot more powerful WiFi signals, so that could be trying in the first instance - I agree. I hope you can fix it soon 🙂
Oh dear! That's rubbish. Uhm all I can suggest is to restart your router and Ring Doorbell. If that doesn't work, try speaking to Ring Customer Services. I hope you can get this sorted.
@@SmartHomePoint after calling Ring, their tech support was unacceptable to sort it out. But here’s a fun fact… if you use the wrong password to access the WiFi. It will give you the “weak signal” error. 😂 #OperatorError
Yep, that's how I feel sometimes. I like the convenience of Ring, but the actual camera itself seems like a slightly below average camera sold at a premium price 😔
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
The Ring cameras are garbage. I will install at my house the CCTV I use for me shop. It is the same price hardware wise and does not cost per month. Ring, you charge people monthly for this crap and yet I cant even read a number plate, plus the footage is jumpy. Absolute crap. OH, and this is after I bought as Linksys mesh WiFi 6 ffs. I have better speed on my desktop now yet Ring still thinks the RSI is the same. Absolute trash hardware. I go into my Annke Vision app for my shop CCTV which is 10 miles away and the footage is perfect, 4K so its not my phone.
Mine started having awful resolution after AT&T reseted my wifi Router settings.. Rebooting the Router won’t fix the issue either.. My Ring used to be great, now its resolution sucks! What to do??
Ugh sorry to hear that 😕 Do you have any issues with video streaming on other devices - such as RUclips or Netflix? If not, it might be worth contacting Ring and seeing if they can do any debugging their side. Maybe their logs will highlight the issue. It does sound like some incompatiblility in WiFi settings, somehow.
Step One, remove Ring Doorbell. Step Two, place on a hard surface. Step Three smash into little bits with your choice of objects, boots may work while wearing them. If in doubt use a large hammer. Step Four, never buy a Ring doorbell again.

Shitcan it and buy a real product that doesn't have the RING name on it.
Ahh that's a good point. Yes there's such a wide range of WiFi radio-chips and firmware to consider, too 😔
Is Verizon fios default router any good or should I change to another?
My camera has been fine, no network changes but all of a sudden this has happened. I get motion alerts but no video. I even has a router ext next to the door where the camera is located
Hmm that's frustrating. Is it only your Ring devices with issues? (As in, are your other WiFi devices okay?). If so, maybe it's some sort of Ring bug... but it unfortunately will be hard to 'fix' beyond maybe resetting everything and/or waiting a week or two 😕
I experience a situation that even i press the ring, it does not trigger and chime ring. I cannot even find a ring action in the histroy
That's great, I'm really glad that it's helping you, that's promising. Hopefully it continues to work well for you 🙂 Thanks for the update.
@@alexei2426 Did your camera continue to run well?Just bought a Chime Pro. Going to connect the trouble camera to it.
Thank you very much found this video helpful
You guys all make these videos I think you’re great
RUclips is the first place I go if I need help
Glad to hear this has helped you!
I have the lates router 5g wifi 6 plus coms with booster plus I have 2 more wifi extending nothing works
Hi I installed ring doorbell wired and the volume output is too low! What did I do wrong? I installed it with a transformer. Please help as I can't find any information on what could be causing issue.
Hmm, what exactly is quiet? Is it the outdoor speaker volume, or something within the app etc?
@@SmartHomePoint outdoor speaker on the ring doorbell wired.
How do you change your wifi channel?
From inside your router's admin panel. The exact steps will vary for every router, but the WiFi label with your password will often contain details for the admin panel too. So login there, and then look for the "WiFi settings" (or similar) section.
what is the best rssi signal you can get mine is 21 ??some times it pick`s people up when there on my front door and other times it pick`s them up at my gate!.
Oo that's pretty good! The best I've seen is around 30. I checked now and two of my devices are at -32 and -33, although I do recall seeing this a little better.
Thanks for the info, Tristan. Very helpful.
No worries, glad it was helpful. :)
Everytime my ring doorbell goes off it increases my lag during a video game how can I fix that
That's an interesting question.
What about soldering a wire and routing it indoors? I have an Eken V5 from AliExpress and I don't mind loosing the "warranty" on it.
Hi there is a a ring chime a wifi booster or is it just the chime pro thanks for your help and a great vid
No worries 🙂 Only the Chime Pro acts as a WiFi extender. The basic Chime doesn't help for that purpose - it just plays a doorbell sound.
@@SmartHomePoint Ok thanks for that, sorry not the best around tech another question i would like to ask you please is will the 1st gen chime pro work with the 2nd gen doorbell as i have been looking and they both seem to run on 2.4ghz if i am right not sure thanks for all your help.
No worries at all 🙂 Yes the 1st gen Chime Pro should work absolutely fine with the newer gen doorbells.
I was wondering why my Chime Pro wasn't working. I forgot I needed to make sure my devices are not running on the regular WiFi. I will do that once I get home lol
Thanks for video, great to have a router lineup that works best on ring
Glad it helped!
How do I see if my ring Doorbell is on 2.5? X
@@SmartHomePoint thank you very much for speedy reply and info will have a look now. Thanks again legand of a man
Why do I have 2 red dots on my ring doorbell?
Is that at night? If so, that's the infrared lights/sensors recording in night vision mode.
@@SmartHomePoint ty for getting back to me .
Good informative video, helped me. Thank you.
You're welcome, glad to hear you found it helpful 🙂
My RRSI is 62. Is that not good? I just installed it around 2 pm today and the video was good until around 10pm I couldn’t even see anything anymore.
No my SKY Q is stuttering sometimes think I’ll do away with the “wifi extender socket”
That's a nice improvement for sure, but yes, it's odd when it's only 10ft away :/
I put my Ring Doorbell actually on top of my router as a test...you guessed it, poor wifi connectivity....
Super helpful, thank you!
Glad to hear that it helped 🙂
Dude you're so smart I feel stupid. Anyway thanks.
Every video says the same thing. Strong green signal and still being told move wifi closer.
Great advice thanks
I've spent 2 days installing a WiFi extender outside and guess what? Still low signal. These doorbells are ridiculous
WiFi extenders only work if they are plugged into an Ethernet cable
I have the same problem
I’m not able to connect, “WiFi signal too weak” yet I physically set my router next to the doorbell with the same result…
@@ChrisPsneakers haha 😆 oh dear. That's good to know though! Surely we can still blame Ring cos... y'know... the error was confusing?! 😬
Nice job, informative and simple.
Thanks 🙂
thank you.
No worries 🙂
Let’s face it the WiFi chip is absolutely shit in these ring door bells
Rooter?
Hah, that's definitely The One True Way of pronouncing router 😉
Thanks
Great video
I don't get why my £25 other brand camera is 5X better at this than my £90 Ring camera..
Talk slower please!
Waaaaay too confusing 🫤
Mine started having awful resolution after AT&T reseted my wifi Router settings.. Rebooting the Router won’t fix the issue either.. My Ring used to be great, now its resolution sucks! What to do??
Ugh sorry to hear that 😕 Do you have any issues with video streaming on other devices - such as RUclips or Netflix? If not, it might be worth contacting Ring and seeing if they can do any debugging their side. Maybe their logs will highlight the issue. It does sound like some incompatiblility in WiFi settings, somehow.
@@SmartHomePoint None at all, all our other devices: phones, PCs, gaming console, etc play/stream just fine.. Thanks for the reply
Great video
