I hope this helps! I can't wait to make more guides helping you more in-depthly with each Pokemon :) If there is anything else you want me to make, please let me know!
Awesome video I'll definitely share this with my friends that play! I'm a math teacher and I'd love to see the data spreadsheet you made if at all possible.
It would be great if you could post that spreadsheet out for everyone to scan through and take a look at. Also thank you for your hard work, I've been dying to see this exact video because I knew something was fishy.
There's someone on reddit that did this analysis and posted the spreadsheet, there are a couple 'mons that are mixed: some attacks/abilities are special and some physical
When I learned about the Attack and Sp. Attack difference, I originally assumed it was based off of the species's stat line in the main games, but the fact that Greninja and Charizard are both physical really throws that idea out the window.
@@ronnieriosstayshredded7410 Yep. I'm weirded out by it too. That whole thing messed me up for a while, because I kept giving Wigglytuff Attack boosters for Doubleslap and the occasional Rollout when we had a second support. It didn't do shit. Don't base your decisions off of info from the main games, basically.
this is definitely an aspect where it really helps to have knowledge of the mainline games. in those games we refer to them as physical attackers and special attackers based on what their higher stat is. pretty much all of these match their designation with the mainline games except charizard and greninja. so if you play the mainline games competitively, you can pretty much go with your gut here.
True. That’s how I pick which is special and which is physical based on the main game knowledge I have. So far it’s correct according to this video so it’s good they kept that from the main games b
I totally agree! I’ve played many pokemon games competitively with friends in the past, and I just never realized until now how much its actually helped me itemize/build in unite! Since I play ninetales/wigglytuff I just assumed they were Sp. attackers without even checking😅
@@shawnabirtshninger2107 I was just confused if avalanche was physical or not, and I am still confused. After some testing, I concluded avalanche is special.
Ok, so I have a theory which reroutes to the main series Pokemon games. They themselves have both special and normal/physical attacks. Specials are mainly for ranged moves without physical contact, like thunderbolt. Physical attacks, are well physical, like vine whip. This might tie in to Pokemon Unite Also might add that Pyro Ball and Water Shuriken are a physical moves in Pokemon. Hence explaining it's normal attack based status.
Man, the first half seemed really complicated but the cheat sheet really helps. I was also confused about the damage mechanics but this video solved my doubts. Thank you soo much for this video and I hope you have a great day 👍😊
Well, it's not like the game explains it out in any form or sense. You basically have to assume who's doing special attacks and physical attacks. This guide is a blessing to have.
No problem i was worried lucario was special or kind of mixed because his unite seems like it is and if he was special my set up would of been a waste lol
This was really helpful to learn. Thank you I main Talonflame and I was running Muscle Band and Wise Glasses, so I'm glad I can stop wasting one of those slots...
Thank you Teeds, this is incredibly helpful! The primary attack stat for each Pokemon is what I suspected, but Greninja is a tad surprising. Thanks for taking the time to test this, and I appreciate hearing that Eldegoss' heals scale with Sp. Atk :)
Thank you so much for all the effort that went into making this video and the others. This is my first time playing this type of game and your videos have been so helpful.
Thank you so much! I had a feeling this was how the game stats were but nobody had any info. (Yes, I am looking at you Serebii). Thank you so much for testing this out!!
This follows the main series games on what mons are physical vs special very accurately only one that surprised me was Zard but physical Zard isn't unheard of though its very nice to have a video out here for confirmation and help others keep up the great work we appreciate all you do
As someone who played the main games i was like "Oh it's the same as main games" lol, looked at pokemon moves and the move types(*mechanics, ie. dash, ect.) were red or blue. Red would be Att and blue is SP. Att. That's what i feel it works because moves with debuffs(CC) are all purple and heals are green.
Hello, long time Pokémon player, first time unite player. I want to say that your videos are super helpful and informative. Love the content and keep you the fantastic work.
I'm new to mobas and new to pokemon unite and your videos are just awesome. Amazing, how much effort you put into them. Looking forward for all your Videos to come :)
awesome vid!!! my knowledge definitely helped me get through the first 2 days of release but this is great! i knew cinderace was a norm attack cuz in the late game every other attack felt like a crit along with with att held item and the crit held item. definitely a great combination. can’t wait to see ur vid on item builds in the future tho! definitely getting a sub from me :)
I just discovered your channel and I dropped my jaw down when I saw all the content you have done in such little time. Spectacular (edit) I haven't noticed some of the videos were made weeks ago, it now makes sense. Still great job! I'm gonna watch them all
Thank you so much for this, I can tell that you put a lot of work into it! :) Hopefully in the future they’ll add some Icons to tell if a pokemon uses Special attacks (like how in gen 4+ in pokemon)
Awesome vid Teeds, been playing Unite recently and using what you taught me from Smite! It's such a great game, got another mate who is completely new to MOBAs into it too :D
FANTASTIC work, really important and I keep coming back to it! Specifically, I keep coming back to it because I don't trust the graphics 100% but I trust the tested data. Thank you so so much!!! Like others have said, some of the splits make sense based on special/physical split in game, but that's not a perfect indicator either (tuff double slap being special, charizard being physical even with fire blast and flamethrower, etc)
Thanks so much for the upload, I am a one trick Garchomp and was trying out Shell Bell for healing. But since the special attack scaling is so small, I will go back to using a more defensive item set
Thank you for the concise and informative video and thank you for doing the research on something that is baffling for the designers to not have included in-game. Your explanations are helpful in their simplicity and comprehensibility, and the way you speak is pleasant to listen to. Subscribed. 👏👍
Seriously helpful info here (kudos on your excel sheets). Can't express how frustrating it is that the [atk. -vs.- spc. atk.] is so obscure in the game.
Appreciate all your time and data crunching! Knowing Tencent, the choice was intentional to keep this vague and confusing so players would feel the need to spend money on the different items and test themselves. As for your “patterns” easy to tell you only played MOBAs and never Pokémon though. In the games, Pikachu, Gengar, Venusaur, etc learned moves that scaled with special attack and had high SP Att base stats. Machamp, Absol, Cinderace, etc had high Attk base stats and learned moves scaling with Attack 🤗
Loved the video! Wanted to add a thought on the Snorlax flail dilemma. I think flail is stronger the less hp you have. You said you used shell bell to test for special attack- it’s passive restores hp on landing a move. Maybe try using wise glasses instead? Thanks for this great info- you’re the only one with it right now I think! Keep up the good work!
I hope this helps! I can't wait to make more guides helping you more in-depthly with each Pokemon :)

I don't suppose we can get a link to the spreadsheet for an easy reference?
Spreadsheet pls... Are you making sure it is correct and accurate first before giving it to us?
There's someone on reddit that did this analysis and posted the spreadsheet, there are a couple 'mons that are mixed: some attacks/abilities are special and some physical
"The very best like noone ever was". You actually took the suggestion from the other video on board!
Sooo gooood!
Yesss
I smiled so much at that
When I learned about the Attack and Sp. Attack difference, I originally assumed it was based off of the species's stat line in the main games, but the fact that Greninja and Charizard are both physical really throws that idea out the window.
So flamethrower is attack based?
@@ronnieriosstayshredded7410 Yep.

Don't base your decisions off of info from the main games, basically.
Charizard is an ADC. When we look at it's attack pattern. Dishes out constant damage and no burst.
I thought most skills were special based while aa were physical based (and some skills too)
@@jrg87 actually happy with the way its set up. I play eldegoss and gengar both special attack
This is actually MASSIVELY appreciated. It took forever to find this.

That's the first thing j noticed when I started playing too. Essentially just build like you would for mainline games
Well both Charizard and Greninja are considered mixed attackers, so their scalings aren't really Farfetch'd.
True. That’s how I pick which is special and which is physical based on the main game knowledge I have. So far it’s correct according to this video so it’s good they kept that from the main games b

I agree but I think it might me the Pokémon’s main attack stat from the main games. Haven’t checked it yet though
In the newer gens, water shuriken is special.
@@lucario2467 then maybe its related to its dashes
@@lucario2467 i was about to say that
Charizard and Greninja go against this theory though
