He couldn’t win because he wasn’t Chinese, Asian but not Chinese. He was brought in as a wild card to be thrown off after the first or second show. Instead he was made famous overnight. When he opened his door in the morning two big guys were there. He got scared. But, the6 told him they were his bodyguards to protect him from the fans that ad bombared hiis room. I first heard this song about 30+ years ago and fell in love with it, but 5 years or so ago I heard DIMASH do it and he took it to a whole different level and I became an instant fan. Later I found every cover he does ends with him owning the song in my opinion, never seen or even heard of anyone like him in my lifetime and that is some time.
He’s been classically trained since the age of 5 and practices every day. He was offered a place at a prestigious opera company but turned it down to do his own thing. He sings all genres of music including pop, folk, rock and even rap. He also has composed his material. There’s a very famous Russian composer who you will come across who often accompanies him on the piano, called Igor Krutoy. After watching Dimash perform he came out of semi retirement especially to write music for him. The combination of his music and Dimash’ singing is like nothing you will have heard before! Dear mr Phil, you’ve got to google the English translation to this song. This is the saddest most beautiful song you’ve every heard. Dimash is 22 yrs old in 2017. He came in second. He couldn’t win because he wasn’t Chinese, Asian but not Chinese. He was brought in as a wild card to be thrown off after the first or second show. Instead he was made famous overnight. When he opened his door in the morning two big guys were there. He got scared. But, the6 told him they were his bodyguards to protect him from the fans that ad bombared hiis room. Hello was Dimash coming back the next year by invitation. Dimash had competed all over the place and everywhere he went they brought him back. Now 5 years later he isjudging. The meaning to this song is as manic as dimashs voice was being lyrical so that when he was high with almost whistle tones the words said he wanted to be a bird. Why do I laugh why do I cry why do I live why do I die. I don’t feel comfortable in my own skin. The audience was a character in the song and so was Dimash. At the beginning of the song Dimash was introduced as a producer. According to Wikipedia ddi ash started his career at 2 yrs of age younger than Michael Jackson. His mother a professional opera singer and his father a pop singer and a producer. They gave him parts in their show. When the shows ended and it was time to bow Dimash went on stage and bowed with them. His grandparents raised him as is custom in Khazakastan for the eldest child. That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

He speaks about 7/8 languages and sings in about 14. Dimash was basically a 'wild card' with no chance of winning the crowd against seasoned singers .... until he opened his mouth. This song, S.O.S. was his first song in the Chinese talent show called 'I Am Singer' in 2017. I'd suggest that you listen to ALL of his performances in this contest (12 songs in total). These are some of his best. After and only after listening to these 2017 performances, Listen to a song he wrote at age 19 called 'Unforgettable Day' performed at Slavic Bazaar. Some info about Dimash. He is born in May 24 1994. He is from Kazakhstan and has been music schooled sense 5 years old and told the teacher that the piano was out of tune! He sings about 7 octaves or so! No one knows he is still learning. He sings higher than the piano can go! He also writs and compose own songs, plays bunch of instruments including Dombra there own Kazakh instrument that has a sound you can’t believe and onley 2 strings! Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and have started his PhD.
He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500.
Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside).
They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night.
Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to.

The best moment in this show was just after Dimash started thanking everyone and saw his father there. He didn’t know he was there. Just after they got out of that room Dimash turns to his father and asks if he did good! When Dimash was gonna go in to the other contestants he again turned to his father and asked him if he done good! That’s the kind of man he is humble, loving and respectful.

Gloria Wu's channel has the back-story about the song that is so sad and from a life story about a boy losing his parents in an awful way. Also you get to hear how Dimash sounds like then loosing his voice the day of the show!!! When he went on he didn’t know if he could sing. Looking close at the other contestants they where so worried about him. He lost his voice again after. Li Jian another contestant bought him a very very expensive Chinese medication for him so he could get better soon!

Episode 10 : 'Unforgettable Day' In Kazakh and I think some translation in Chinese to. If I remember correct he wrote the music to this one when he was 19 years old and lyrics by Oral-kosai Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash. Also in this show another contestant "Terry Lin" that was about 51 years young here he considered Dimash a dear friend at this point. But Dimash started telling them al he was his father around episode 9 I think!! That is a big respect and love from his part of the world to call him! Terry was gladly accepting it. They are still that close and also invites each other to there concerts and sometimes singing this song in duet to. They sang it in Jackie Chang movie festival in 2019 and Jackie was choked in how good they were. Terry was known as an alien before Dimash and they have similar vocals to.

I first heard this song about 30+ years ago and fell in love with it, but 5 years or so ago I heard DIMASH do it and he took it to a whole different level and I became an instant fan. Later I found every cover he does ends with him owning the song in my opinion, never seen or even heard of anyone like him in my lifetime and that is some time.
He’s been classically trained since the age of 5 and practices every day. He was offered a place at a prestigious opera company but turned it down to do his own thing. He sings all genres of music including pop, folk, rock and even rap. He also has composed his material. There’s a very famous Russian composer who you will come across who often accompanies him on the piano, called Igor Krutoy. After watching Dimash perform he came out of semi retirement especially to write music for him. The combination of his music and Dimash’ singing is like nothing you will have heard before!
