      You're welcome!! I just discovered this myself and find it really useful in my setup. Good luck to you in implementing subdomains in your environment.

    Very cool! Although is this a bigger security risk vs using a VPN to access the NAS.

      I think so too!! Nice to be able to use only one DDNS domain and make use of sub-domains. Security wise though it is a bigger risk and I would recommend a VPN if you can use one instead of opening access directly to services.

      A good reason to do this is when you have family members using NAS apps like Synology photos. It’s not practical to get them to use a VPN on their phone and Quickconnect can be very slow.

    Maybe I'm misremembering, it was quite a few years ago since I set it up, but I think I just added the *. to my original domain when creating it and subdomains works fine, no editing necessary. Curious.

    When you create your Reverse proxy for your dsm, why do you need to make a reverse proxy for it?
    why not just leave it as the default DDNS name? because your've already forwarded the HTTP - - > HTTPS under web services?
    Is there a reason for this?

      I mainly created the reverse proxy listings in this video as examples. For the DSM reverse proxy, however, I created that one because that would be the only way to access DSM externally, but, like you mentioned, I could have used the default DDNS name for that listing as well. Not sure if that answers your question?

    What is HTST option means?

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  Год назад +2

      HSTS stands for HTTP Strict Transport Security and is a standard that ensures that browsers always connect to websites over HTTPS.

      You're right... Wildcard certificates are only available for Synology's DDNS.
