They made couple of made for tv movies which you can still see on HBO from time to time, but I totally agree that the OG show itself had potential to be very good. @@CelesteKTheNewWaveRevue
80's was the best...got alien nation complete series with all five movies...love it...brings back memories of a better time...def must have for collection thou...
I loved this show, the names that were given to the "new-commers" were classic, especially on one episode they had Polly Wannacracker. What a great show.
I remember Betsy Ross and George Washington. It almost seems that this was some sort of security measure by giving them such iconic names, it would make them easier to monitor and track.
I saw this movie once when I was four and I still remember it 24 years later. I pretty much only remember the ineffective crotch kick, the alien being thrown into the ocean mafia style, and the drunk on milk scene. That's all I needed to find it.
this is actually from the TV series based on the movie (though it uses clips from the movie like the street walkers in the intro). The TV series had a different actor playing Sikes but was very good and popular enough that 4-5 made for TV movies were made after it was canceled.
Of all the Crap that HOLLYWOOD has been making lately and those ridiculous useless Re-Boots... Alien Nation needs to be Re-done. I mean Gentlemen. We have the TECHNOLOGY in the 21st Century 😎👍🏻 #aliennation
I knew someone who didn't like the music, they said it made them uncomfortable. I didn't mind it at all. always wondered if there was an English translation or was it just a nice chorus of voices.
The songwriters basically just made something that sounds coherent and there are some interesting touches. For instance, some of the phrases are the names of Kenneth Johnsons wife and daughter written backwards
Oh I had totally forgotten about this TV show! I hadn't been born yet when this was originally broadcast, but think I saw a re-run sometime in the 90s. I remember being a bit scared by the aliens. 😅
This show was pretty much like Firefly - too quirky to have much appeal to a brain dead mass audience. (Also a Fox show!) But Alien Nation was a gem, just like Firefly.
Fun fact: The actors portraying the Newcomer Franscisco family, on a lark, went to the local Immigration and Naturalization Service office in full Tenctonese makup...someone there thought that they had suffered radiation burns.
@Kerolden I wasn't talking about slavery in general. I was talking about the music which has some african touch to it, and with the slave-theme already there... Well, those two things together just makes one's mind wander just a bit. Even my mum was mortified. If there was a different theme tune for the series, I would not have reacted as I did.
I definitely remember this show. Did you see how see how Sykes came thru the window in the begining of the show? That part be having me laughing @ his crazy tail! LOL!
That cop guy was also in star trek as a vulcan..was ...he...an alien....playing a human....among aliens? and where did these 90s people get so many ideas for what alien languages sounded and looked like? did the government have......contact?.....was ashayana deanes songs based on this or was it other way around?
I used to love this show. Eric Pierpoint was great, but looking at him and remembering the show, Rene Auberjonois would have also done a really great job in that role.
what is the name of the new movie coming out? it is a remake of alien nation. i saw the trailer during the new terminator movie, but can't remember the name. something GREEN.
@knoxvilleguy2 Eh, you should see District 9. It's worth the Netflix rental price, I promise. It's just one of those movies that really could have gone from "good" to "great" with a few very obvious ..fixes. It _has_ a good story, _has_ good acting, good characters....but it just...feels it has to make itself into a cringe worthy Apartheid allegory somehow--it's like if they made a (good) movie about us mistreating an alien race called the "Djoos" and putting them into death camps.
@Eldeecue - I haven't seen District 9, but I suspect that people - even if they're only a small group - will be discussing " Alien Nation " after District 9 has vanished from movie goers' & video - viewers' collective memory. Fox had GOLD in that series, & they settled for mostly mediocrity or even dreck after cancelling it.
On the contrary, quite a few of the actors here went on to other genre work, with Gary Graham being the most prolific with appearances on Enterprise and other sci fi shows. Michele Scarabelli has done her share of genre work as well, as she was in both Star Trek and the last season of Airwolf.
@Eldeecue - Hmmm..... An alien race called the " Djoos ", & humans are like " Nazis ", I'm guessing. Subtle. Just like " AVATAR " where the Na'vi were like the pure unspoiled natives in the " New World " & the Terran humans were the evil, resource - hungry, disease - riddled Europeans. I've got the deluxe DVD edition, but I've ALREADY heard so much abt. " AVATAR " that I'm biased w / out seeing more than a minute of it.
I like how people are going on about how "powerful" and "innovative" District 9 is, and calling it "A Completely New Direction for an Alien-based science fiction plot" Yeah....D9, while not _terrible_, can't really hold a candle to any given episode of Alien Nation, even if you forgive it for blatantly resorting to allegorizing the Apartheid, and doing so in _very_ poor taste.(Which is...hard to do) Forgive my sermon, had to get that off my chest.
Almost 15 years later.....this was kind of a dumb thing for me to say. It is _bizarre_ accidentally running into uber-old comments that you yourself made.
Alien Nation was a great series, but the premise probably steered some people the wrong way…slaves on a ship forced to integrate into a world that comes to hate them and subsequently humiliated as second class citizens. Gee, now why does this all sound familiar?
C666O Only Sci-Fi show that made it past the first season on FOX is The X-Files. And that became a Golden Globe winner phenomenon which had 9 full seasons. And later on a mini series. And two motion pictures.

Aww I was not aware. Rest in Power Achilles (Robot Jox) my first time seeing him act as a little kid.
Underrated TV series...Big fan of Alien Nation!!
Alien Nation + World of Warcraft = Bright.

This was my childhood, also a very powerful tv show. Great acting & storyline.
I used to watch this show when I was a kid back in the 80s and 90s when I was a kid back in California
R.I.P Gary Graham 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Oh god. So it wasn't a dream...

Still wish they had left George's name George Jetson.

@@Fenris30 what was wrong with George Francisco???
@@ratbatnufftime2861 in the movie it's actually Sam Francisco, Sikes decides to call him George because he can't stand the pun.

Yeah! Rambo 6! Clearly the best one in the series
This was on local tv (Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺) late on Friday nights in 1991. Loved it as a 14 year old!
Great show very underated

I liked Alien Nation because it reminded me of the Coneheads but in a TV show.
1:34 lol from human chimp in anger to calm vulcan in Star Trek ENT lol I LOVE seeing actors's scifi journeys
All teh star trek actors are probably Ets
Human chimp in anger. I'd probably beat the crap out of my car too if I had to partner with a Tenktonese. 😂 Yeah, Gary Graham as Ambassador Soval.
a great show based on a great movie, and the opening credits still work
Agreed. Both the movie and the TV show were outstanding, as well as the TV movies that followed.
I saw this movie once when I was four and I still remember it 24 years later.

My favorite part of every show was in the opening theme where he punched the car.

I liked the show.
If you look at the Alien married couple they actually remind me of Peggy and Al in MArried with Children 😊
So with that whistleblower thing this morning this might be our future hopefully. Better than War of the Worlds
What?
Clearly the most unrealistic thing of this series was that the United States government agreed to take in 250000 refugees...
It could happen. All depends on the mood in the world and inside the country. We will have to study them first
Sure? Now you have open borders for illegal immigrants...
"We want the technology."
The show was basically a Noir Precursor to District 9...
Are you kidding? Do you know how many refugees and immigrants in general the US takes in every year?
Fun fact: The actors portraying the Newcomer Franscisco family, on a lark, went to the local Immigration and Naturalization Service office in full Tenctonese makup...someone there thought that they had suffered radiation burns.
