  • During the Cold War, in retaliation to U.S. refusal to negotiate on limiting Directed Energy Weapons, the Soviets microwaved the U.S. Embassy, causing eventual fatalities. The U.S. government knew about the microwaving, but chose to cover it up. Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger arranged hazardous pay for workers at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow during the microwaving.
