I absolutely love your whistles. I don’t know how this one compares, but I recently got the chieftain custom low D and just couldn’t be happier with it! You’re an amazing artist both in music and whistle design.
Oh, this one looks so exciting. Really interested in the new mouth piece! I have your Chieftain low D which is awesome but the thinner mouth piece looks like it would make it so I could take even less breathes.
I've played the Optima for years, because I like the way I can play long phrases without having to stop to inhale. In fact, when I try a low D whistle, one of the first things I do is to hold a low G as long as I can on a single lungful of air. The Optima is very good in that respect, but in general is a very quiet whistle. I had the thought that its being quiet is *why* it's so air-efficient, but that's not quite true either. I have a Dixon polymer low D that is even more air efficient than the Optima, and also louder! But the Dixon lacks the nice complex tone of the Optima and every other Kerrywhistle I've tried. I think it would be interesting for you to do the "one lungful" comparison test of your whistles, as well as loudness comparisons, under identical mic conditions, since these are things that we simply can't assess by watching videos. In this video, you explicitly mention that the new Busker doesn't empty the lungs and is good for slow airs, which typically require long phrasings, so that's encouraging. The very narrow windway is a concern with respect to clogging, especially since it's metal. You might comment on that too. Possibly the width of the windway helps to correct that.
We all have different lung capacity so this would not be a fair comparison. I play the Didge and have a very large air capacity and also know where to breath. This is more important when playing tunes, not the whistle but lung capacity. Sorry to be boring.
Yes you are correct Phil About Lyn capacity, yeah you could still compare the two whistles yourself and see which one you can play longer, and also we would like to know how they compare in loudness and tone, also finger spacing . I would like to buy 1 of them and can’t try them myself .
@@philhardywhistles Yes, but this kind of test would still give us a sense of *relative* air demand. I might not be able to sustain a note as long as you can, but if you can sustain 30 percent longer on one whistle than another, chances are the rest of us will experience something similar. Since we can't easily try before we buy, this would help us to choose, especially in conjunction with loudness, which we also can't really discern in videos.
Phil can i ask has this got a tad more back pressure than your kerry pro by any chance as i have one of your kerrys atm its a lovely whistle just think id be more suited to this busker
It's getting closer to the Goldie it seems. I have the busker low D and it's nice but not very efficient. It does sound good in really quiet settings, but the Goldie I can play in sessions no problem. I would love if all the buskers had the same aperture as the busker high D which is ideal and somehow it's the only one in the collection with that type of back pressure.
I have the previous Busker low D and it plays and sounds great! No issues at all and very easy to reach the second octave. It cost £159 at the time with postage to Belfast, Northern Ireland last October. I'd expect the price to be similar maybe a fiver or so more, well worth the price. The narrower airway will definitely make it more playable for slow airs, more air efficient. If I didn't just buy a couple of McManus whistles I'd be ordering this 👍
"Hello from France! You are truly a great artist, it's you who motivated me to play the Chieftain Low D. Thank you."

I can't find one anywhere. Really wanted to buy this one.
I have been contemplating the custom pro, I am curious at the differences . Please do a video Phil explaining the difference
lovely, especially with acoustics

I am playing the chieftain...i am very Happy with the chieftain. I have the busker in High D. I should try the low. Top!
Im not seeing these in the shop at the moment. Do you have a General idea or when a restock might occur? Thanks!
Great. Another whistle I have to buy. Lol

What's the exact name of this whistle in the shop page or how can one be purchased?

Nothing like a Goldie. Not even in the same ball park. You've been warned ;)
Perfect
For Niamh.
