Brilliant review. I have 68 poles gathered over the years and my first of the NRX plus series has been in the form of the 901S spinning pole. The feel of the rod has forced me ( much to the horror of my spouse ) to pursue replacing most of my fleet of rods with NRX plus’s 😂😂 Thank you 👌🏻
Flat out my favorite spinning rod! Mark Zona designed the 872s when he was with loomis. The thoughts with it were long casting and pinning fish better at a distance. He recommended I buy one and I will never regret it. Been using it for a while now, ready for another.
Interesting! Didn't know the history.
What do you throw on this rod?
I’m picking up an IMX Pro 7.5 Medium Heavy tomorrow along with a Shimano Stradic Spinning Reel ST4000XGFL. Can’t wait to test out the new combo! Thanks for the in depth info; much appreciated. Cheers!
Thanks !
I love seeing your videos more often bud. I love these reviews.
Thanks Tylor!
@@PunchFishing do you recommend the 852s or 872s for wacky rigged 5" senkos?
100% agree about the 852S. I own the NRX 852S and my one gripe is the casting. I can’t cast super far with it, but I was lucky enough to get that rod for 50% off, so I will not complain whatsoever lol. Down the road though I will eventually consider the 872S later bc of this video. Would love the extra length for extra distance. Thanks for these videos man!
Im serously considering 872s for Zanders (bigger brother of Walleye) here in Europe but sometimes i catch pikes. My question is does 872s has enough power for smaller pikes (4-5lbs)
Awesome review! I have the 852s and it fits my style of fishing, plus I’m a shorter guy so 7’1 is abo right for me. I do agree that the 852s does not cast very well, that’s why I got the 852c lol
I had the 872s but sold it, a great all around spinning rod though. I only use a “fairy wand” for drop shot & the 822dsr is the bees knees for drop shot
I watched all of your clips, I don’t know why I wasn’t subscribed, anyways did it again. Thanks for informative clips about high end gears, they are not so many RUclipsrs talking about them,
Out of all bass Fishing reviews - be it rods or tackle - you put out the best videos - very well spoken - put together material - keep up the great work . I seem to end up buying what your reviewing - lol but true
Wow, thanks. I appreciate it. I've been out fishing a lot and I have to pump out some new reviews.
Yes, yes, YES...out with the recoil, in with the torzite...
I’ve been loving my legend x (and its seemingly endless number of) torzite guides recently. I’ll probably just be adding more of those since they have better cork and balance nicely. If loomis/shimano would dump those goofy recoils, I would consider adding to my nrx collection. Torzite might even help balance them a little nicer. Maybe there’s some sort of magical rod maker’s reason but I can’t imagine what it’d be...
If it ain't broke don't fix it
I just bought 872s 3 weeks ago love it ..i have 902s 852s and conquest 842s
I wish I had a 902s for chucking hair.
GOSEN 16 Braid. Best braid money can buy! Good luck finding it in the states, had to order mine from Australia
how did you get into the states though? I havent had any luck. All Australian sites dont ship to the states
872s is pretty good for heavy drop shot… used it with 1oz and 5inch robo weedless, boom casting from shore. Cache my PB 10.4lbs lol. My only drop shot rod I need. I had both nrx and nrx+ 872s both pair wit 1k Stella.
Awesome video and channel! I really enjoyed watching! Keep up the good work!
Just ordered this rod in the nrx+
Went to Omnia after watching this. Lo and behold, they had a Legend X 7' MF spinning in stock. Absolutely can't find it anywhere else. Your coupon code was a life saver. Was considering an Expride in the same configuration instead of the Legend X. Unavailable everywhere.
I knew they had that rod in stock! I monitor their "what's new" section daily. I was hoping someone would grab that. Thanks so much for your support!!
Keep the content up during COVID, good buddy!
You too!
Just bought a Conquest MBR. Hopefully it’s near as sensitive as my NRX’s. I’ve fished the Expride and Zodias, and I disagree on the taping. I really feel like it helps my pitching to docks, I get more distance and more accuracy. Although I still prefer unfinished graphite. Cheers keep up the videos!
Love the original trilogy posters in the back!
Thanks 😊
I agree with everything except the K guides over the KL-H guides. The higher and smaller guide train is designed by Fuji to cast better with light braid. I'm sure if you put smaller KL-H high frame guide train on the NRX, it would cast better than with K guides when you're using light braid. I have a few custom rods built with the KL-H high frame KR concept and it casts amazingly well. I suggest you get the NRX re-wrapped with Ti Torzite KL-H guide train if you like the rod enough. Thanks for the review!
That would be waaaay too expensive lol. Thanks for the post. The NRX dramatically casts further than the Conquest in my experience. I'd love to see the conquest guide train on the NRX. Maybe someday?
Are you on Instagram or anything? Id love to talk to you about guides.
@@PunchFishing I have instagram, but not really active on it for fishing stuff, more for other hobbies. We can certainly chat over the platform though, what's your username?

Hey! I just bought an IMX-Pro 852c JWR from OMNIA with your code. Thanks.
Awesome, thank you! Great rod!
Wow, killer honest reviews I love it bro. Subbed and thumbs up! Trying to decide between the NRX and Legend for deep water (80 ft) 1/4 swimbaits and shakey heads on Bullards Bar...
Which rod would you go with for deep water giant spots? I'm losing sleep over this!! Haha
NRX for sure.
I really enjoy your reviews man. Looking at some higher end drop shotting or finesse gear and the actual useful videos in the youtubeverse is limited.. anyways thanks man.
I appreciate that!
What a great review! Picked it up based on your recommendation and looking forward to trying it out on Great Lake smallies
It's a perfect smallmouth stick!
Great review. You explained why I didn't like my NRX 852s as a finesse rod. I just couldn't cast lighter baits as far as I felt I should be able to and your feedback affirmed my experience. I actually sold the 852s last week because I just didn't feel it was worth the money. That said maybe I'll have to try this one. I have a Dobyns Champion Extreme 742 that I have the same struggle with. Maybe this is the replacement to both rods, the Dobyns and my 852s. Can't wait to hear your feedback on the Whipsnake. Have you found it or are you still looking. Dying to hear that answer. Keep up the great work.
I have a Whipsnake! I'll have some thoughts on it this summer.
As an NRX owner and fanatic, this is accurate.
Thanks! This feedback makes me happy. I wouldn't say I'm a NRX fanatic, but the fact that I'm not making the NRX nuts mad is a good sign.
PunchFishing your 873 video was spot on about this rod line. Loomis needs to figure it out and start getting with the times.
I guess Loomis thinks....when you’re King of the Hill...no need for change?....Just a guess...Either that or they have 1X10^99999 recoil guides in stock still.
Thank you for adding yet another rod to the mix of my devastating confusion! I still haven’t pulled the trigger on my replacement for my Okuma TCS spinning setup. I use it for a bit of an all-around spinning setup with 15lb braid to 8lb flouro leader. Most of the time I’m skipping Senkos under overhanging brush (no docks out West) but I see you’ve mentioned this may not be well-suited for that application. I’m currently considering the 852s vs the 7’M Expride and now vs this rod. Whew! Thoughts??? Thanks as always.
Where is the love?
Out of the 872s, Expride 7m, and the 852s... I'd say the 872s is heads and shoulders above the best. It's such an amazing rod. It's quickly become my favorite spinning rod of all time. I think it's way more versatile than the 852s (the 852s is STIFF) and way more sensitive than the expride. Plus that long casting ability is very useful. If you can spend the money, try and locate a 872s. They are getting hard to find though.
PunchFishing you mentioned in the video that it wouldn’t be that good for skipping. Do you still feel that way after more use?
The recoils are a major reason for the sensitivity. Same goes for daiwa with the ags guides
I dropshot a lot, 1/2oz 90% of the time. Work it very different than most guys. Fish it fast, deep, bomb casts, cover a lot of water. Would this be a good rod?
Yes!!
I'm getting a deal soon on a 6.8 med heavy spinning nrx...I'd like a medium but thats next.
Great video. I've been binge-watching your content for the past few days. Love the honesty in your reviews. I recently purchased an NRX 852S but returned it. It just felt wrong when applied to my type of fishing. I'm a shorter guy and almost never fish big water. My smallmouth fishing is 90% streams and rivers. I like using spin jigs, ned rigs, tubes, weightless senkos, and soft plastic jerk baits. I'm currently looking at the Conquest 782S SJR as well as the St. Croix Legend Xtreme 2020. I've also looked at the GLX Spin Jig series.
For my type of fishing, are there any rods that you'd give a strong preference to? Thank you so much!
Yea I can see the 852s being way to stuff for streams and rivers. You may want to consider the Orochi XX Whipsnake as something that can throw all the techniques you described.
@@PunchFishing Awesome. I've been looking for a reason to dip my toes into the Megabass well.
Great review!!! I'm not sure if you own any Poison Adrena rods. If so I would love to hear your thoughts on that rod in the future. Keep up the Great work
I'll probably pick one up eventually
You should try FX CUSTOM Rods they have a 7'4" medium fast that is awesome
I'll be 100% frank, the behavior of the FX Custom Rods massive pro-staff army on Facebook has really turned me off on the brand. I won't touch one of their rods. I think FX has about 7,000 people on their "pro staff" and they won't shut up about the rods in several FB groups i'm in. I can't take the brand seriously at all.
@@PunchFishing agreed!!! I was told by a staffer their rods where better than my NRX and Poison Adrena.....respectfully I just shook his hand and said nice to meet u.....couldnt take their bullshit lol
@@davidnewcomb2431 from what I can tell.. they must get kickbacks for selling rods with their codes. It's insane the cult they are establishing.
Just subbed! You got me at Rod Snob and GLoomis and the fact that you called me an Idiot!🤣😂👍🏼🤫
#rodsnobs
Amazing tip that’s what she said
Anyone have experience on comparing this 872s to a Megabass Windbuster??
I really want this rod I have the mojo inshore and that thing is such a work horse, when people say their isn't such a thing of saltwater gear everything corrodes, I tell them buy yourself a mojo inshore I only fish saltwater never rinse my things the eyelids on my mojo inshore look brand new
I have both of these rods as well as some other NRX and Conquest models, but as far as the spinning goes they all take a backseat to my Megabass Destroyer Addermine... I really wish those were still available because I would buy another.
I'm going to do a Addermine video at some point.
Ex fast is a soft tip.... that's what it's supposed to be lol when under load, faster rods flex at the tip first, moderate rods flex through the whole blank. Ex fast means that under initial load, nothing but the tip will flex.
That looks like an extra fast bend.
Fast bends much lower.
If you like soft tips you should have looked at the popping rods .
I have a 872s and a 822 SYR. I just bought a Stella 3000FJ and wondering should I get another 872s, an 852, or a Conquest 842 or 843? I'm not so much technique specific just want a versatile array.
I have a conquest 842s that I've been using pretty heavily and i'll be dropping a review soon. I'd consider it to be a VERY versatile rod, it's just that the price point is obscene now with the Shimano price hike this year. I'd say that's the most "versatile" rod out of the ones you don't have yet that you listed.
Should I get a dedicated drop shot rod (which many consider the best to also be the NRX) and the 873S for all the other, or.......?
Having a dedicated Dropshot rig is a must, just because it's a process to tie up and requires a softer action.
Thanks for a nice review, Brian. I'm just starting out with smaller swimbaits (2.8" - @ 4") and swim jigs (1/4 and up) and was wondering what ranges of depth are ur smallies and how much weight do you normally need to maintain bottom contact while reeling slooowly? Where I fish they can spend a bunch of time in 15-25 ft., & although I haven't tested it yet, I'm guessing I'd need 3/8 on low end and 1/2 or maybe even 3/4 on the deeper side? Cause you had mentioned using 1/4 oz mostly (& 3/8 on occasion), and for smallies I'd think that wouldn't get u all that deep? I'll probably be best with a casting setup if my guestimates of weight are right??? Am I way off on this? This rod would easily handle 1/4 & 5/16, & maybe 3/8th - the rest would be baitcasting duty, maybe including the 3/8?
I typically use 1/4oz heads for swimbaits in 17 feet or less. If I'm going 20+ I'm busting out a 3/8 . I've never been in a situation where I need to toss a 1/2oz for smallmouth. This rod could toss 3/8oz if needed but baitcasting is a good option when you go 20+ deep.
I have the 822DSR with a twin power 1000 for drop shot and a 901 with an exsence for ned rig.... how would the 852s be for throwing weightless texas rigs? Senkos and such.... and whatcreel would you pair it with?
I own the 872 and 852 and i noticed a couple guides are not in line with the rest. It really gets on my nerves and im looking for some way to get them fixed up. I live in Canada and wondering if my best bet would be to send it back to Gloomis but im not sure if theres a better option.
You have a newer video that says if you could only choose one spinning rod to use for the rest of your life it would be the conquest. This video you say you would take the nrx over the conquest. Which is it?
man they are both fantastic. the conquest excells and shallow fishing, where the 873 is a killer tool for water 10' or deeper. I fish a lot of docks and the Conquest is way better for that.
Thanks man. Love the videos
Thanks for this review - greatly appreciated. how does this rod handle 1/8 oz ball head hooks with plastics? also what is the distance between the butt end and where the reel stem attaches? Thanks
It can handle that weight fine. It's a great for any ball head jigs and swimbaits. I'm not sure on the length
Is it a little tip heavy like the Brigand or less? I like the the brigand cuz I can throw 5/8. Jerkbaits. But I do find it a little tip heavy. Thanks for review
What would you recommend for mainly topwater use for double digit bass?
What would you say would be best all around loomis spinning rod, something I can skip senkos under docks but then go and drop shot with? I know it wont be ideal for drop shot but something I could get away with doing both on.
I don't think Loomis has a great Dropshot rod that can also do general Finesse presentations honestly. Not in the IMX/GLX/NRX line at least, in my opinion. The closest might be the 822S SYR shakey head rod, so I'd take a look at that in a store if you can. The 842s/852s have very stiff tips which I don't particularly like for Dropshot. 873s has a much softer tip but 7'3 might be longer than you'd want for dock skipping.
PunchFishing thanks for reply, my stores around me dont carry these rods so this helps alot. I have champ xp 703s which is pretty much what im looking for but I want american made preferably loomis.
How do you think the NRX+ 872 would be for walleyes?
How is the 872s on jerkbaits? Specifically full size 110s and 110jrs
just purchase talica20 and bg 500, what rod should I purchase low to medium price rod.
The design has changed from the product you are selling, is it an initial prototype?
Recoil guides can deal with braided line without getting grooves?
Yes absolutely
Would this make a great shaky head/Neko rod?
YES! Maybe one of the best rods for that ever made.
good vid. do a review on the tatula lts
They are fantastic reels! I don't really have much to say about the Tatula LT reels that haven't already been said by great youtube channels like Tackle Advisors.
Was looking at the MB Windbuster for free rig, but saw your review and preference for this rod. But the 872 doesn’t seem powerful enough for free rig. Need to be able to handle 3/8-1/2 easily. What would you recommend?
It could easily do a free rig if you toss 1/4oz. Honestly Windbuster tops our at 3/8 for free rig.
Where did you pick it up at? Everywhere is back ordered :(
A local shop but they are out too
Can you give me recommendation for a frog rod
What's your price range and what brands do you like?
@@PunchFishing still kind of new, to brand thingy, not sure where to go from here....price range : not sure am more for the performance than name brand forsure, if I can get both that would be great.
@@PizzaCologne3 do you like to open water frog or go into the really thick stuff
@@PunchFishing kind of both , but more heavy cover
what line do you use on the nrx and what line diameter?
The trouble you are having with the balancing thing has a lot to do with the super light reels you are using. Yes, I want a light reel so the whole setup is super light but it doesn't feel right because the balance is off. A 2500 reel these days are 1 to1.5 oz. lighter. Throw 1 oz. on the reel seat and see where your balance point is. I'd bet it's in the ball park. A light setup is good but not so much when it's off balance and front heavy - very tiresome. Edit: Tatula 2500 is 6.3, try a Stella at 7.2 or Stradic FL at 7.9. See if that is more comfy. The heavier reel should feel better on that rod.
Oh I don't mind a little off balance on this particular rod. It feels really good with the LT 3000.
NRX I don’t have .. keep buying Xtasy’s .. this model here your showing may be my first .. ultimate shaky head you say ? - hmmm 🤔
Dean, what is your opinion on the Xtasys? I have a few, but I haven't gotten to really fish them yet. I am a Dobyns fan, tons of Champion Extremes HPs, and I have picked up a few Xtasys recently.
Nrx ? Liked! Rod snobs? Subscribed lol 👍🏾
Yessssss
Where are you finding nrx rods that cheap? The best deal I can find is a 10% military discount at tackle warehouse....
I am a bank angler, would you recommend the 852 instead due to the length?
Entirely depends on the baits you're tossing. They are both awesome though!
Where state are you from? I'm curious what bodies of water you fish.
I'm from Minnesota but also have a camper in NW Wisconsin. I fish primarily natural Northern lakes for largies and smallmouth.
1000 Rod-snobs..... 😂 Anyway congratulations on your 1000+ subscribers. 💪😎🎣
Thanks! I know there's a LOT more out there based on the view stats lol.
Nice review 👍...
Thanks!
How does this rod compare to the Shimano Expride 7' medium? Is it worth the extra money?
YES! It's much more sensitive.
@@PunchFishing Now I just have to find one, thanks!!
Is this a good neko rig rod
Yes! Its phenomenal for Neko.
I want to buy one , do you have any recommendation where to buy it ?
Reach out to Summerland Outdoors or Bypass Bait & Tackle on Facebook. Shoot them a message (or call them)
Can you use a swim bait or crank bait on this?
I use paddle tails all the time on this rod so yes. It could definitely throw cranks also. Especially light balsa ones.
@@PunchFishing thanks!
Do you have a leader line on the jbraid
Yes! 8lb fluorocarbon
Conquest 843c or NRX 873crr? Thanks for another great review!
I haven't used any of the conquest casting rods so I can't give an opinion
I own both. Two totally different sticks. 873 is much stiffer. As much as I hate to admit it, I use my 843 Conquest for moving baits mostly. It would work fine for lighter Texas rigs/jigs around sparse cover or open water, but the MBRs have such a forgiving tip, their action is perfect for moving baits. 873 is strictly bottom contact, deep water, or moving baits that require a heavier hookset like swim jigs.
Why is this rod so hard to find?! Does anyone know where I can find one these days?
Everyone's out of stock and Gloomis won't be resupplying the market until August (or later). They shut down their factory over covid.
PunchFishing thanks for the info! Guess I’ll be waiting impatiently like everyone else.
Is that the zona tube cracking rod?
Beats me, isn't Zona a Daiwa guy now?
@@PunchFishing lews lol
Do any of these nrx come in 2 pc
They do not
Nrx: yeah people like me better than the conquest I'm The king of fishing rods
Conquest: i have spiral x and torzite guides
Nrx: ...............😑
The weight savings with Torzite is 100% legit.. I do think it's awesome and I wish the NRX had em.
@@PunchFishing torzite guides alone is close to $200
Now what nrx spinning is good for 1/4 oz jerkbaits
Id say either the 872s or 852s
Ty for the help getting the 872
i've been wanting an NRX for shakeyhead, ned rig, senkos (dont have docks to skip, just grass and shoreline cover). I was looking at 852s. I'm not sure i need super long casts to do what I want to do with it. Fishing lots of bluffs in clear water smallmouth waters, but catch largemouth/spots also. Typically in that 20 feet range with light line and 1/5 neds, 1/4 shakeyheads, etc. What lengths do you get on casting 852s vs the 872s? If its an extra 10 yards, i'm not sure that I wouldnt rather have the shorter rod. Curious what your recommendations are?
If you're fishing 20' of water or more I highly suggest going with the 872s. It's just all-around a better rod for deeper water than the 852s.
PunchFishing thanks. Where can you get one online for less that full price? American legacy has discount but charges tax. Basically a wash between that and TW.
Why the hell did they increase the price
Beats me.. tarrifs? Who knows.
SKOL
The only thing the Nrx has over the Conquest is the price.
Not sure what that means exactly..
Would not buy, do not like the blue colour on that high end rod
What nrx casting is similar to the nrx 872s
G Loomis rods price it’s not worth the price cheap guides them guides was back in the 60s $600 rod no way
Also - would you recommend this rod for wade fishing rivers for smallmouth, etc? Thanks
Yes, absolutely
@@PunchFishing Thanks - how does it handle lighter ballhead jigs with plastics, like 1/8 - 1/4? Thank you
@@edrose4583 that's what I use it for!
