It's awesome that you race. It's a good practice to replace your helmet regularly such that it's always in the best shape to protect you. Helmets get old even when they still look good. The protective padding deteriorates. This is critically important if it's ever been "used" as in hit with an impact.
Putting some form of wax protection on the helmet can help to keep it cleaner and shiny on the outside. Be wary that it does not rub off onto your racing gloves...potentially making them a bit slippery.

In this heat you don’t even need to remove the pads because the pads will dry out, fast, in this heat.
