Hard disagree the experience on audiobooks is vastly superior most often. If the reader is good it becomes vastly more immersive. For example 1984 by Steve Parker audiobooks where he adds in sound effects and even fully plays out the one song in the book alongside being a great reader in general or Lolita read by Jeremy irons where it’s the actor from the movie reading it and he manages the most creepy and condescending voice to match it perfectly. I generally wouldn’t listen to an audiobook for non fiction or some particularly difficult fiction works as opposed to physically reading them though because if it’s particularly complex in subject matter it would require going back quite a bit to clarify information to the point you might as well just read at your own pace.
