- If cities fall apart and noise gets you killed, what actually works? We’re running suppressed .22, 9mm, .45, shotguns, and rifles-subsonic vs supersonic-testing what’s actually quiet, what’s fantasy, and what matters in dense urban environments. From anti-drone concepts to breaching and movement, this is a grounded look at operating when silence isn’t optional.

Next time on Garand thumb, where to hide enemy bodies to avoid detection.
Hahahahahaha I was thinkin the same thing.
Lots of agricultural land in Idaho, compost your enemies in the potato fields !
I’m told the back 9 works pretty well
Watch reruns of Breaking Bad
When I used to work at a landfill I had an easy option. Now not so much.
Garand Thumb 2018: "Check out this cool gun"
Garand Thumb 2026: "Get ready for the collapse"
Life comes at you fast
@GarandThumbThat's the truth. Being in an urban AO this is especially true. (Planning to move ASAP) I've personally witnessed it with unrest, just living through multiple riots in a year.
It's very interesting how you can feel the temperature of the situation change. I went from seeing protest on lives, scanners and maps. Within a 45 min drive, you hear the tempo changing. It went from protesting, to crowds shifting to CS canisters flying, cop cars burning and highway I was on overtaken. Without the gut feeling and early warning systems already up and running, we would have been caught on the highway in rocks flying down, deployment of CS and no egress. I was able to split between concrete dividers from construction and drive the wrong way to an exit. That 45min drive turned into 4.5 hours to get home. I could have walked it that time in good conditions. By sunset that night you could hear booms of devices in the distance blowing pharmacy safes and ATMs. The next night within a few hours of sunset. Automatic pistol and rifle fire within a half mile. Devices moving close enough the final days to set off car alarms near us.
Definitely learned a lot from the first one. Things we accepted that didn't happen and things that did we never anticipated. Next riot we had a sharable map, multiple people outside our area tracking movement and dropping pins. Me and friends scanning all socials to get live streams to track location, numbers and armed or not (SALUTEs) Inevitably I believe we see them again the next year or two. We now have Meshtastic radios, regular radios, more socials and more ideas of planning. Like evac vehicles for medical emergencies, blending in while still showing a presence of people. Avoiding conflicts. The first riot and after. Buddies in fire and PD in my area said no one is coming until sunrise. Fire, EMS or cops. Thankfully many of are TEMS trained EMTs, Vets retired LE and all preparedness minded.
As for the 22lr. The 10/22 in particular. That also has a place in an urban warfare setting to disrupt lights, camera systems or vehicle radiators that are parked via the front grill. Not large enough to make major leaks visible but once under pressure the system will fail to operate without pressure. Too big for liquid patches and too small for most smaller methods to plug the whole. Great video.
@GarandThumb😂
Meta reply in the comments on a subsonic vid… strait gangster.
Flannel Daddy going the WranglerStar route was not on my 2026 bingo.
When he said " There's nothing you can do about the fact that cannibal's run our lives" I felt that...
same
I mean I thought everyone knew this ? When the apocalypse happens , the survivors will be the either be sane , civilized , cannibals, tyrants , and slavery will return.
I didn’t lil bro
I’m not sure that it’s true…
Garand Thumb is not suicidal.
Bro is giving us tutorials for the 2030s
"What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss?"
If Mike sees his shadow does that mean we have 6 more weeks of autism?
Oh gosh I hope so. Being normal is lame 🌶️
this is factually correct
This can't get enough thumbs up
Lol
@YourBRO_inTHEknowi gave you one. Im here to help.
Imagine getting T zoned by some dude that just pissed in his suppressor 😂
many such cases
P zoned
Mind blowing
@kyledriscollmusicnice!
Code name Liquid snake
The biggest surprise is that RUclips hasn't taken this down.
lol right
They make too much $ off of it to take it down
It's probably illegal to directly say why this is still up, but there's probably a hope that the people who tend to make owning guns their personalities use those guns against their perceived enemies.
This is forgetting that the other side owns a shitload, too, they just don't pretend it's a lifestyle.
@michaelwoodby5261 I've seen enough Reddit to know BS when I see it. Those morons have no idea what's really going to happen to them if shit gets real. They are already being monitored, tracked and recorded. They forget Reddit is...public and not everyone they interact with is as friendly as they first seem.
Give it time
When will Garand Thumb make videos along the lines of "So You Survived Being Ambushed, What Now?" , "You Survived The Assault, What To Do With Wounded and Dead, Gear, Weapons"?
Those would be pretty sick videos, I'd approve
@nextcaesargaming5469gotta get that rolling for sure!!!
Its an honor to watch this and be placed on several lists with all of you. Godspeed gentlemen
Dedicated Squad Anti Dronesman is a wild concept.
@mgpBLARG id still get a stock as you still need to aim. Maybe a folding stock of some kind.
@mgpBLARG if you're being a designated anti drone operator the laws don't really apply anymore. Something you can do is have a shotgun with the legal barrel length and have a hacksaw at the ready
DSAD Operator is a cool title lol
@LeonM4c I want my DSAD to be a little robot tbh.
@RightJoystickDonut Operator has entered the chat…
Good to see that Tim Pool here is getting into guns.
Isn't he an Israel shill?
Remember the USS Liberty and who PURPOSELY attacked it for hours...
He looks taller than when he’s behind his desk.
i know its a joke, but he has a fuck ton of guns ever since like 2019 and having people try to break into his house
@bigfoottamer yet he only has two hands. Owning an arsenal of guns is a noob move, but he’ll learn.
He would need to duel wield pistols while riding that fence lol
Even the goose is classified with the blurred face 😂
lol I was gonna say the same thing, didn’t know if anyone else caught that. But the question is, what does that goose know?
Dangit! I was gonna post about that and was just checking to see if somebody beat me to it. You beat me to it. Well played, sir… well played. 😉 Also, I was going to call it a “duck”. 😖
@greenjello pretty sure that is a duck, can't tell without seeing it's face/bill. It's rather small with a short neck which typically is more likely to be a duck; only breed of goose I know that is small and looks like a duck is an Emden.
tactical goose
Crossbows are underrated
BAHAHAHA the duck at 3:18 gets its face blurred LMAOO!!
I can’t think of a suppressed shotgun without thinking of ANTON CHIGURH!!!
ditto
Call it 🪙
CALL IT
That sound effect haunts my suppressor purchases.
JUST CALL IT!!
My budget is too cheap for stealth kills! I’ll be maxed on charisma though
Jesus Christ be praised
@turtlepopperok
@paulshiner2678ok
@turtlepopper how bout no. Keep that fantasy BS out of real world conversations pls.
@robertlambert4514Jesus is Lord!
You might find yourself...behind the wheel of a large automobile. And you may ask yourself, 'well, how did I get here'.
There is water at the bottom of the ocean.
Came in to say this...
same as it ever was
This is not my beautiful,wife…
Great tune
Another thing to note for anyone with budget restrictions or living in places where firearms are heavily restricted or outright banned: look into airguns, as some of them can reliably drop medium game for 10+ rounds before needing a refill.
I was shocked when the Zeus came out. Large calibers 😂.
yo....that elbow is literally trying to annex itself bahahahaha
I've played plenty of Splinter Cell. I really hope the "hang from a pipe by your legs, and snapping the neck of an enemy below" is in this tutorial.
The 8.6 is almost cartoonishly quiet
It definitely sounded like a Hollywood suppressed .308
Its terrifying to be on the receiving end of as well. That twist rate is no joke
Bro it sounded like a dry fire hammer click
Could have stopped at cartoonish
Expensive, but effective ❤
I've been using your vids as a guide since I have no kind of training whatsoever. I'm absolutely traumatizing my grandkids with nerf qcb. These fuckers keep their heads on swivels when they walk in my house now.
❤
Hilarious...
Mike, you are under utilizing a major tactical piece of equipment.
📦
“And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile”
I think snipers would be my biggest fear in a complete society collapse.
Get a thermal drone
Pretty much... but the things are super heavy and very loud. If I were a single sniper I'd probably create a small hideout on a mountain, hunt with suppressed ar or mps, get back later and move somewhere else when needed. Whole squads... yeah that's probably brutal
@cyba9774you say that until you realize snipers are light weight they aren’t going to be using PRS chassis and you’re dead long before you know there’s any danger in the area
@jackmendez8579 DMR’s definitely aint light, .338s aint light either. Plenty of long range precision weapons used by militaries and civilians that are not light
@1rstTry hope you get the drone in the air before you get domed.
45acp makes so much sense for suppressed work. If you can't go faster, go heavier with a bigger frontal area.
Until you shoot a suppressed 45 anything and remember that they're still very loud even if they're hearing safe. Theyre not stealthy quiet, theyre just quieter than a normal gunshot.
@Mk2Mod1idk my .45acp ar pistol is stupid quiet. If you were inside a building and I was outside, you would hear something. Gunshot won't make the list of what you think that noise was.
My FNX545 with a can is money!
This is basically a philosophical map for life.
@spcpittsa straight blow back subgun in 45 isnt stupid quiet. Its quiter than an unsuppressed 45, sure, but stupid quiet is a suppressed 22 where the action cycling is the loudest thing.
Premium content. not assuming the crowd knows everything or anything at all and truly educating everyone. Thanks man
3:20 I would love to see a GranandThumb plays ARMA3 and leads a resistance movement video using an Antistasi mission.
This episode of “How To Be Deadly In An Urban Setting” should be subtitled “Killing Them Softly.”
Michael, my dad loved your stargate intro video. He passed away Tuesday.
Sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad I could bring some joy into both of your lives. He sounded like an great Father.
God bless
Sorry for Your loss.
God Bless man
You need to get a clay pigeon system set up to where they're being launched at you. You should do a drone countering episode where you bring different shotguns and different loads and shoot clays at yourself from a distance. You would need an automated clay thrower. Do it! Plz
Hell yeah!
As someone who has done this you are gonna wanna wear a jacket. Even when you hit the clay the chunks and bits will keep coming and pelt the shit out of ya
@tyguy434 100%
Looks like inflamed bursa on that elbow. Elbow compression sleeve had me all set in a few weeks when I had a swollen bursa .
That plus alternating ice and heat
My man rockin the Sightmark Wraith :O
.22 is probably the best suppressor host to date.
I’ll use my .300 blackout
So half a mag before it fukks up
Used by assassins worldwide
@Yetified_Mayhem buy a better .300 blackout. My noveske eats it all.
22/45/300bo subs ❤
46:02 the thing with the 22 is even if you enjoy it just a little bit you’re going to put 10,000 rounds through that thing before anything actually pops off and you’re going to be so proficient
I burn at least 300 rounds of 22lr through my Ruger MKIII every time I go shooting.
@NebulousCatand thats still probably 75% cheaper than the 200 rounds of 556 I do on a weekend. Damn, I should get a 22 AR lol.
Ruger 10/22 with an aftermarket threaded barrel and a rimfire can is well within most budgets and a game changer if SHTF.
Pair a TX22 with it and a Ruger 10/22 charger pistol.
The problem is rifle barrels are long enough that most ammo goes supersonic.
@billstevens5277Quite a few manufacturers sell 42gr-45gr .22lr loads that are optimized for suppressors, standard or target velocity .22lr is subsonic but the crack of a supersonic rimfire load is still pretty quiet compared to the report without a can.
@billstevens5277 Run a charger with a brace. Standard is subsonic.
28:02 I used to shoot trap with a semi auto shotgun and found that if you put a thick elastic bracelet that you would get at some type of convention or concert it’ll keep the chamber mostly if not fully closed depending on the gauge or load your using.
ahh! very interesting and helpful
This video came at a perfect time. Just so happens maybe something in my country made me feel I need to finally arm up a little.
A suppressed 45-70 would also be a decent choice, as would all the cowboy calibers
We discuss cowboy calibers!
I once went down a whole rabbithole on this topic & the problem with 45-70s in that application is that they're all too slow of a twist rate to properly stabilize subs except for Rossi leverguns and the old 14" Thompson center pistols. The calculators all say that you need 1 in 14" or faster but everything other than those is 1 in 18" or slower. An sbr'd Rossi 45-70 mare's leg would make a lot of sense in that role though.
while I agree with you, especially considering how bad the BC is, most engagements are going to be within a couple hundred yards so a 4570 would certainly put whatever problem you might have down. ammo availability is a different issue though
12 spies recently did a video on a bullpup bolt action 300 blackout he built and I always thought that but in 450 bushmaster would be awesome
@johnnyshanksalot8358I shoot 777 gr subs through my supressed Marlin Trapper 45-70 trapper and they are stable as far as I've tested them so far(100yds). The stability calculators dont accout for the cylinder shape of most 45-70 heavy cast bullets. Cylinders are much more easily stabilized than Spitzer type.
Surpriced to see you didn't mention the Nielson device with pistols
Fair enough! I didn't want to over conflate the video but seeing the runtime I def could have touched upon this topic.
Perfectly timed upload for my poop
No💩. Just popped up as I plopped down to poop. Amazing.
growing a GrandThumb on that elbow
The Osprey is just such a _good looking_ suppressor too.
The dab is killing me. Awesome video! now I will not find a USP for a good price for a year now.
The 22lr suppressed out of a pistol is the perfect close quarters assassination weapon. Also 12spies made a nice 300blk bullpup bolt gun
Great choice if you have the element of surprise and not a lot of armed targets to deal with.
2 secret lovers, meeting in close quarters? Or did you mean "assassination?"
As long as you're shooting nothing else but CCI. I still have thousands of rounds of CCI that I was stacking during the 2016 election. Some of my 500 count cases have that dude from The Swamp People Choot Em "The Troy Landry Special Editions".
I think you have to go to San Francisco to get an assignation weapon
@Shademastermcchahahaha ai auto correct kicked my ass
3:19 it’s good that you cover the Identity of the Goose!
I love it every time I see it.
I have a chain saw that runs on sunlight. Essential apocalypse kit.
Why this make more relatable nowadays
Fuck the ATF!
Do not comply
Comin straight from the underground
And the corrupt FBI, DHS and ICE... they're all painfully incompetent
Mike needs a no ragretts tat.
This is why I have a 10/22 with a threaded barrel.
Suppressed 10/22 with a 6x32 scope on it.
“A” 10/22? Dude, are you even trying? I mean, sure, the Ruger is solid. But if you want movie quiet…use a bolt action. Ridiculously quiet.
Look like garand is preparing to deal with the National guard when they arrive
9:22 Nothing will make you respect ricochets like a suppressed 22.
@44:00 as well, and that ain't no .22. 🤣
@xanthais141lol I want an 8.6 real bad but don't have the 5 grand to drop on one
I especially loved the cut scene where somehow water went from your mouth into the suppressor.
haha, youtube didn't like that one
@GarandThumb👃 tube
Giving it the old kurt cobain?
Spitters are quitters ...
@GarandThumb What I really want to know is did the camera man blush?
Id love to see an anti-drone video. A look into the best shotgun ammo types and maybe some anti-drone rifle ammo and the practicality of shooting down stationary vs active drones.
Didnt he already do one with the benelli m4 anti drone model? It mighta been someone else but i seen a vid
Watch the video with the Ukraine soldiers
I don't care about the drone, it's the operator who is the problem...
'Crack kills' Garand Thumb
Hey garand thumb! Maybe a video on how to survive without guns would be something interesting too, for us in Europe etc it really isn’t accessible to get firepower. Love the videos btw!
Absolutely sir.
Played intravenous recently so this is all cool stuff all of a sudden
My Mark IV with a Dead Air Mask HD sounds like a staple gun...lol I love it.
I've got the same set up, its awesome 🤘
The Mask and Checkmate are the quietest non-wiped 22 cans available. Just hearing the bolt cycle.
You should hear how quiet a 22lr lever action is. Plus it doesnt jam like a 10/22
Cmmg bravo conversion kit + CCI quiet semi autos or their Suppressor HP 🤌🏻
Fry The Brain - The Art of Urban Sniping - is a great book to pair with this video
Love that book
Sir i didn't even watch the whole video before i already knew it was a good one thank you just the intro i was sold . Thank you for your service.
he got his hair done, back to back with hats and helmets
Everyone make sure you go to settings in RUclips and turn off “Stable Volume” for this video. You can’t effectively A/B how loud something is with it turned on.
the question here is...ur supressors will keep me out of the mini map?
Always
Also fully hides in-world spotting but at the cost of hip fire accuracy and weapon sway 🤓
i know this is going to be a good vid when i saw the Q the fix
Tossing a word in for the HK45c. It's one of the best carry 45's out and make excellent suppressor hosts.
27:51 The a300 will also run like a scalded dog.
I have those same Fjallraven pants. Worth. Every. Penny.
You injecting HG straight into that elbow or what, dawg?
I'd love to see you guys test The Hush Puppy from Vietnam used by The Navy Seals.
Dude! The holding the slide to keep it for cycling. 🤯
Im learning so much. Thanks big brother
I plan to be nowhere near a city during the “awakening”! Keep it rural.
Season 1 Walking Dead.. avoid city like plague
I’m in a suburb (valley with 2 roads in and out) of a 1+million city on an island. My goal is to get to the continent and get some land in a free state. My house does have the high ground though, just need FLIR cameras to point to the jungle mountainside above us.
That's where all the deadly prepared people are going to be. 😂
Not saying I wouldn't go out there too, I most certianly would. It's however not safe AT ALL. All the capable dudes are going to be out there. 😬 All the woodsmen, vets, hunters and guys who know how to operate will be walking those woods with you. If you run into someone, they're likely super capable, unlike the city folk.
@YourBRO_inTHEknowThat’s why community and relationships are important. If you aren’t familiar or respected where I live you will find out quickly. A good name and some skills go a long way!
Why does RUclips make you sensor thermal optics?
Think he meant the faster firing variety. Should call them Trans-selector fire then maybe RUclips would like it
@eastwood4006Faster firing thermal optics?
I was wondering this as well... what is so bad about the word "thermal"?
One thing to note is that 45ACP carbines are quite similar in performance to 300 blackout rifles with subs.
300 BLK is quieter through a 30 cal can.
I love that the (goose? duck?) face was also blurred out.
The sound of the wet 8.6 hitting the target was louder than the actual gunshot 😭
Holding the slide for more silent, that's a pretty awesome tip. @18:00
Its not. Its stupid and provides no benefit because the muzzle blast is considerably louder than the action noise.
@ExpatriotSilencers it actually works quite well, it’s not just the action noise, it is also the sound of the high-pressure gas escaping from the port /breach. I have tested this side-by-side and you can very much tell a difference in sound.
I just got a couple boxes of Aguila Colibri .22 rounds last week. Without a suppressor, they are more quiet than a daisy BB gun by 50+ %.
The issue with them is there’s no powder, just the primer and the lead, which looks about like a .22 cal lead airgun pellet. It’ll go through a beer can, but barely.
However, used in a 10.5” AR-15 with a .22 conversion kit is almost awesome. I say almost bc you have to manually cycle each round.
Highly recommend for you guys living in neighborhoods where you’re not able to shoot.
Finally someone does this topic. Excited to hear (or not hear) the thoughts in this video.
Thank you. I need a backyard like that.
garand thumb giving directions on how to commit assasinations?
Silent, but deadly.
What's up with those elbows?
civil war is definitely before gta 6 😅
f the civil war focus on the real enemy meaning all that worked with epstein
Nahhhhh.
@lefunnyN1pfffff if only. Best we can do is another war in the middle east.
The most lethal silent killer is that discrete fart you let out in the more dramatic moments of your life.
Love when the Springfield operator makes it on the show. 🔥
You are desperately missing the Road House Knife Boot.
GOOD POINT
@0:09 And you may ask yourself, "How did I get here?"
Same as it ever was
Suppressor by FRAM
Oil filter adapters by any machine shop around. Sometimes, you just gotta laugh at the ATF.
I love ordering candy from Primary Arms. The candy is kinda expensive, but they always seem to throw in the exact optic I wanted for free.
To add on his homemade wipes comment you can get a tube construction silicone for installing windows and press it between paper to make your own but you will have somewhat varying success
No body going to talk about that massive elbow nob………😳
Bursitis.
3:18 why is the ducks face blurred 🤣
Op sec bro. Protect the package at all costs.
@drgreenthumb5648protect the package at all costs it is
You forgot the classic bow and arrow
People tend to make A LOT of noise when they suddenly have a 28" arrow sticking out of them.
@finnberglander7816never shot a person with a bow but I have shot quite a few assorted critters ... Arrows usually don't stop in the animal unless you hit heavy bone. And the animal will often launch into high gear for about 50-100 yds before dropping dead. Not very good at guaranteed quiet
@Hentylion I wouldn't do it for larger game but I take smaller game by aiming for the spine through the neck. I think the spine or head would be the best place to aim when taking a stealthy shot on a bald ape. Bigger target than the heart at least.
Crossbows are great, too.
Well, they're really not all that quiet. I mean, no gunshot, but that string is not silent.
That BNT station 6 pistol looks like a modern Welrod from WWII but with a detachable supressor instead of an integrated supressor.
We are here for u garand thumb if they come after u just let us know u have an army of soldiers that u have trained on this channel for years
Shout out to the 300$ pants
Tariffs 😊
My only gripe about the Ruger .22 is the single stack magazine. Some fellow might not want to be compliant when he's being removed and having a few extra holes might be beneficial. Apparently there's a patent for a double stack version. I started a discussion at Arfcom about machinists and 3d printers making grip frames for the Ruger Mk4 which would take other brands of magazines. Having 25 rounds of ammo that weighs next to nothing seems a wiser choice if someone can make it work.
That'll be the Mark V, perhaps
And THAT is why the Taurus TX 22, S&W M&P 22, Sig P322 and even the KelTec P17 are being sold in mass quantities. 16-22 round capacity, while Ruger limited even their SR22. Stupid.
The TX22 has the added option of the FRT. Utterly ridiculous fun, everyone should have one.
