I never write comments on RUclips videos, but I just had to thank you for this amazing coverage of Colombia. I'm currently planning my trip and this has been extremely helpful!
I just visited Colombia for the 1st time 2mos ago. It was one of the best places I've ever visited. Spent 1 week there. Flew round trip Spirit Airlines from Miami to Armenia for $299 USD. Rented a car and drove from Armenia to Cali which took 3hrs. Drove back to Armenia. Thought about driving from Armenia to Medellin and saw it would take 7hrs so we flew on Easyjet to Medellin round trip (45mins each way) for $85 USD. Rented a car and toured Medellin and hit the night life clubs. Returned home to Miami with $1000 USD that was in my budget to spend but didn't spend because traveling Colombia was cheaper than I expected. Also the food was great. Some of this trip is on my novice RUclips channel.
I was just in Cartagena for Christmas towards the New Year. I was enjoying the night life most evenings and I experienced absolutely 0Zero safety issues, no crime, no violence, nothing untward or unstable. Very peaceful and free going.
stop talking shit. i saw a guy throw a big rock at window of a taxi 10 mins taxi outside city centre cartagena. there is alot of unreast with president. saying colombia is a safe place is crazy. i talked to tourists who get held up by kids with guns in evening time in Medellin with money and phones stole.
Biggest advice I have for anyone who has plans on visiting and as much time as Steve does is consider Salento or the towns in the coffee region. Gets you out of the city, get to see the country, much cheaper and just a whole lot of fun.
Steve, thank you for your videos about Colombia. I was looking for a new destination to visit this spring, and definitely your informative and to the point stories made me decide to travel this South American country. Great job! Michael
Hello, we spend 4 weeks in Colombia and this was our route: Guatape incl. Piedra del Penol - Medellin incl. Santa Fe de Antioquia - Salento incl. Valle de Cocora - Pereira - Bogota - Neiva incl. Desierto de Tatacoa - Villa de Leyva - Barichara - Bucaramanga - Isla de Baru - Cartagena. For this route we booked about 7 months ahead following flights: Pereira-Bogota / Bogota-Neiva-Bogota / Bucaramanga-Cartagena. The rest we did by bus. Colombia is a REALLY, REALLY BEAUTIFUL country, if not the MOST BEAUTIFUL in the world. (Compared with 136 other countries)
Thanks for sharing your experience in my country we appreciate every tourist that come to our home, we only hope we as a human can preserve the biodiversity our country/world has. Your contribution makes a living for many many familias and if we realize we can carry out a sustainable toruism more people will stop cutting down trees and forest.
Very thorough and well organized. I think it would be a great help in making a decision about visiting Colombia. And it's great that Steve interspersed his advice with clips of his travels there.
Very well sorted and packed information about Columbia. I really loved to watch the videos and see them as a inspiration for a future trip. I have been to Peru and Bolivia in 2017 and met several travellers enthusing about this country alredy. Let's all meet for a beer in Colombia & thanks once more for sharing your informations with us!
Do you have anything to add? Questions regarding traveling to Colombia? Leave them here and I try to address it in my big Colombia travel guide which is now published on the Blog!
Both are pretty hard to access - if you make it to Cali you can do a day trip to that coast...but the picturesque spots are only accessible by boat and fairly expensive. The rainforest is a tricky one as this area is still a bit dangerous due to militant groups. For more info I'd suggest to check the LP Colombia which was just released, I linked it in my guide which I just finished on the Blog (yay!).
Such an informative video! I woke up today wanting to visit Colombia after watching a Colombian series (I know right 🙄lol). After this coronavirus thing ends (if it ever does) I'm booking a flight! I'm already planning beforehand 😁😁😁😁
What an amazing trip! I'm going next month for seven days. I'm flying into Cali and am going to book plane tickets to either Medellin or Bogota, not sure which yet. But I also would like to go to Salenta/Cocora Valley for a day. Not enough time, haha. Thanks for the epic video!
Hey you missed the coffee region. :( P.S If you are going to travel long distance by bus I recommended that you take Mareol (motion sickness pills) as some roads have a lot of curves.
I'm hoping to go for 3 or 4 months. I don't believe in rushing around, but a bit wary of COVID which wasn't touched here. Despite this, it's the best video I have seen so far for budget travel. I'm just disappointed people go so far such as short break. Just 6 weeks, Steve! I'm also hoping to get into the Colombian rainforest in the Amazonian basis.
Good explanatory and very informative videos .- Any tourist looking for places to go within Colombia ,will find these videos very pleasant and excellently researched.,Thanks to Steve..., you are a good guide and posess a good eye and mind.- Fabio
Here is my plan for when I visit Colombia: Fly into Bogota and spend 3 days in Bogota, then 4 days in Medellin, then 2 days in Cartagena, and 2 days in Santa Marta. Does that sound like a good plan? Should I adjust it? I welcome any advice, thanks.
@@bebop504 For Bogota, two days should be fine: check out the major hotspots and the salt cathedral. The nightlife there is also solid. For the coast, check out the beaches that are east of Tayrona like Costena. La Guajira department is a really interesting area: it's a desert on the carribean and there are lots of natives who inhabit the region. It would be a very unique cultural experience if that interests you.
Really loved these videos about Colombia and heading out in January to Santa Martha. I am planning on being away for 1 month. But was wondering if you know hoe much you spent in total for your 6 week travel? I am trying to figure out how much I need to save to afford 1 month traveling. I have booked tickets for about 400 pounds return to the Uk. Also on a side note if you ever need any music for coming travel videos, please let me know as I am a singer and music producer and have been writing music for english channel 4 and Sky News. big love / Tilda Allie
hi.. Steve, I'm watching all your blog in colombia.. really informative.. I would like to ask if it's safe to roaming around or travel solo woman..is it safe for public transport and roaming around in the city by yourself mostly for woman? regarding for transport is it easy and convenient?
Enjoy the country it's amazing and really cheap, I recommend you going to cartagena(visit castillo san felipe and rosario island), Santa marta(parque tayrona and the beach),Bogotà(the T zone if you want to drink something, salt cathedral is like 1 hour close to bogota), medellín(El peñol,comuna 13), pasto( the lajas cathedral and la cocha). Those are my top destination if you want to travel to colombia. Greetings from colombia. Always take plane is not as expensive as told in the video ( i recently bought a ticket from bogota to medellin in about 16 dollars per trip in one of the best colombian airlines which is called avianca. -if you want to move arround the city there are several apps such as easytapsi and uber, wich are really cheap.
As a celiac gluten free diet is essential for me. That's going to be a problem for me when i go to restaurants. I heard that Colombians have a lack of awareness on the subject.
interesting and complete;let me add something, being Colombian:-if U come for the weather, travel at end of year, January or February which is the dry season; Bogota will be sunny, almost no clouds...but a little costlier everywhere for being the touristic season.-Beware of the street food, U could have a bad time with your stomach, specially with juices; after being away from my country even I.m careful but I DON'T DISCOURAGE U in trying new food.-Respect tp Uber, it is NOT that they are illegal, something like U take a cab and U are going to jail;the problem lies between the government and the company but I don't know if U can book a Uber from Bogota to Medellin,,Question, are U German?
I Walt toi Visit Orly medellin, arround , side caraibes sapzurro, capurgana ...after leyva, section café...etc... about 3 week-end, i don’t watt to visit carthagena or bogota
Not necessarily true. Just use universal precaution and you'll be fine. Travel tip: get the phone number of a taxi driver from the airport. Try to only use him or her to go to remote places. If only traveling to known areas, you will be fine with regular taxis. But again use a little bit if sense. The reasoning for connecting with taxi drivers at the airport is because typically authentic taxis onky have access there. Lastly, have your hotel/airbnb call the taxis for you. They're required to copy the taxi ID number when they take you. Enjoy!
Hi, Great video! HEY GUYS, Regarding Uber SAFETY, just today near my home town Toronto Canada, a fake uber found and charged with rape. :( THIS ISNT COMMON FOR TORONTO, EVEN, BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO ONE THING... The advice from police, was to ALWAYS CHECK THE LISCENSE PLATES TO MATCH UBER ONLINE...BEFORE YOU GET INTO THE VEHICLE. DO IT LIKE YOU'RE A NERD ABOUT IT...)
Very alarmist and not necessairily true although I would reccommend using Cabify app its legal and regulated. Uber is not legal although you can still use.

At least in the main areas which are extremely touristy and priced as such. Also highly patroled by police for that reason.
I believe they even have a decent government now. At last!

If you want to avoid the Colombian holidays just go in February and September. Those months have no holidays. Good video. Congrats
Really enjoyed this video, I normally skip through videos as I get bored easily but this was really informative, thank you.

Is there anything interesting to do near the western coast and the Amazon Rainforest?

ok, will do. Thanks for telling me because I have heard about a river with many colors and it is in the southern portion of the Colombian Amazon.
I will be traveling alone and I do not speak Spanish. Will an English-only speaker have difficulty navigating Medellin?
"Cano Cristales" is 35 minutes (flight) from Bogota. ruclips.net/video/eF7rtii_qJM/видео.html
