Super long comment incoming! I rarely leave one, but when I do, you might wish I hadn’t. 😅 I think you did a great job of praising the creator's artistry and production value of the items while being honest in your disappointment. That is exactly the kind of first impression I want to see. Maybe after some space from your initial experience, you can return to the deck to see if anything has changed. If so, you could always do an update. Thank you Lisa! 😊 Now my rambles… 😂 I think the tarot deck would have benefited from a guidebook like that of the oracle. More thoughts from the creator about choices made, symbolism, their reading process etc., could make such a difference. At least then if your view on the tarot and theirs doesn’t align, you would know their perspective. Take what I’m about to write with a grain of salt. It’s almost 5 am here and I haven’t been to bed yet. Also, I’m pretty sure my eyes can’t be trusted so I’m only going off of what I think I’m seeing. 😂 My initial thoughts on some of the troublesome cards: Edited to add: I missed the High Priestess. I’ll get back to you. 😂 The Empress as a rabbit which are highly prolific reproducers makes sense to me in association with creation and fertility. The Emperor perched nonchalantly on the rock surveying his forest kingdom with a delicate butterfly or moth, clenched in a mouth full of sharp teeth and between strong jaws just enough to hold, but not harm it, demonstrates control, power and compassion. He could be protecting it. That only works if the little creature is alive and it even is a butterfly! 😅 The Hierophant as an albino animal might be because some traditions see them as sacred and holy. Or maybe it’s a commentary on the traditional religious connotation of the Hierophant (the church) because some people with albinism experience blindness and/or deafness? I’m way too tired to go down that road. The Wheel looks like the cycle of life which is always repeating. Predator->Prey->Death as returning to the earth as nourishment to feed the cycle as the wheel continues to turn. Up, down, up, and down again… Justice I don’t know, but is that a jackalope? Maybe there’s a myth or association there, but I would have to go looking. It’s got scales hanging from its horns (little cups) 😊 The same with Temperance and the magpie. Is it a magpie? Maybe a fairy tale or folklore? The Devil card makes me think of the story of Jesus being tested in the wilderness. I guess because the forest doesn’t look bountiful - it’s stark and it looks like there are stones. And the snake… Again I’m not sure my eyes are seeing the images right. 😅 The Tower isn’t very Tower feeling to me. The Star - the Pegasus of myth has a constellation named after it. 🙂 Judgment does give me the impression that if the little animals emerge from their holes, I’m afraid that’s only going to land them in the Owl's tummy. He’s not going to be heralding anything. He’ll be quiet as a ghost to swoop in and gobble them up. Unsure, but definitely not my favorite depiction. 🥺 I’d love to hear the creator break things down in detail. It is a beautiful deck and the oracle deck is very darling as well. I’m pretty sure that the Northern Animal Tarot fills the slot in my collection for this type of deck. I’d definitely use the oracle as altar cards for the seasons and such. 🙂 I don’t have the brainpower to think further on the minors and court cards, but I do think the froggy as the knight of cups was pretty dang cute. I immediately thought about the toads I kissed before I found my prince! 🐸😂😂💛✨
I’m rewatching now - Temperance - don’t magpies collect everything? Aren’t they like crows gathering up bits and bobs that are shiny and catch their eye? Maybe a reminder not to let worldly things distract you from your path? Not to hyper focus on the material and remain balanced and practice moderation. Or maybe it’s taking those individual found things like the fork and watch to create something completely new that’s better than what was before? 🙃
Wow, thank you SO much!!! You definitely helped me see things I'd missed, and I really appreciate it! I definitely intend to spend more time with this deck, as I think more will become clear with deeper study. A follow-up video is an excellent idea, and one I intend to do. The creator has just released an update explaining that the card order was a quality control issue at the printer, so that helps with understanding that. I'm always a bit nervous to give any kind of "negative" feedback, as I hate to hurt anyone, but I have to balance that with authenticity and honesty. So hearing that my comments are appreciated is really important to me. Thank you 💙 And thank you for an incredibly well thought out comment! 🫂💙
@@mythicalwitchery You’re welcome! I was so sleepy and tired, I was afraid that I made no sense. I knew if I didn’t go ahead and comment, I might forget to come back! I'm starting to feel like people have art they want to display and just figure tarot is a good way to do it. I really am getting to the point that I only want to buy an indie deck if the creator actually is a reader too.
I received decks in all kinds of orders. The first thing I do with any deck is put it in the order I expect it to be. Many of my animal decks don't contain much if any human symbols.
Hi! Thanks for your comment and perspective! 💜 I've seen suits in different orders, I've seen court cards at the front. I've seen 10s first down to Aces. I've never seen anything like this in the 200+ tarot decks I own. It was very weird to me, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. 🙂
Not just you lovely, i don't get the connections to many of them. Ngl, i like how critical you were in this video. Not all decks are going to be right and this is clearly an authentic unboxing and showing your true feelings. Hope to see more like this 😅
Awww thank you for that! It's important to me to be authentic and honest, but at the same time I hate the thought of hurting anyone, so it's a balancing act 💙🫂
I finally got my deck yesterday after chasing the creator a lot (am in the UK). The oracle deck is supposed to have a little guide book in the box. I wish she had put numbers on the major arcana. And thumb cut outs on the boxes. I know she has commented that she deliberally put some of the card in a different order in the book, which seems weird. This was my 1st not so great Kickstarter, and normally woukd try out the cards as soon as I got them but I don't feel like it at the moment because of the experience.
I never received my Kickstarter package for this deck. I've been chasing Nicloe for 5 months....still nothing. I just wrote her and told her to keep my $$ as a gift. She is selling this deck on her website for 30 pounds more than on Kickstarter. Being in the U.S., I guess it was more profitable for her not to send mine and sell it on the website! LOL
@@stacysouthwell took me ages to get mine and am in UK. Still haven't received the small oracle guide book. I most certainly wouldn't consider anything from her again. And still haven't used either, haven't even done my usual test reading with it.
I can feel your disappointment, but lot of artists nowadays are trying to find a different way to depict archetypes- they do not want to do just another copy of RWS. If you were expecting RWS clone- it obviously doesn't work. Lot of people reads tarot in a numerological way, this is why, I think, this deck was put in such an order. Each Major had it's equivalent in Minor- this is why you had e. g. High Pristess and all twos, The Empres and all threes etc. When I'm studying a deck I like to compare cards like this too. Being frustrated and disappointed you haven't seen lot of connections- e.g. you said you don't know how the 5 of Swords can depict it's meaning, but look closer to the antlers of this deer- there are not only his antlers on his head- he won some battle but his own head became "entangled" and trapped... It would be easier if the creator started to explain better his/hers own choices in the guidebook. I think it's one of those decks which requires same time, patience and deeper studies to make it work. The artwork is really beautiful and I hope it will work with time for you😙!
Thank you so much, that helps a LOT! I'll definitely spend more time with this deck, as it really is gorgeous and I'd rather be able to use it than not. I really appreciate you helping me see another side here 💙🫂
@@mythicalwitchery When I was watching your video I was trying to find some connection for myself😆! This is why I think a good guidebook is sometimes so important!😙🍀✨️

The devil card here with the snake 😢to me the snake is shedding and starting a new chapter in life, if the snake doesn't shed the old skin it dies, Lovely artwork to be fair, Thank you for the unboxing 😊
Oh no...what a let down! The cards looked promising when I saw the packaging and goodies included - they did a real solid job there. But you're right Lisa, I don't know what it is with some creators (just like the Dog Tarot) where it seems they just consider it good enough to paste random art works on cards and then calling it Tarot. There might be some who like this deck but it annoys me to see the lack of insight permeating throughout the deck. The Lovers and Two of Cups could easily be swapped, The 6 of Cups has what looks like a salamander (a fiery animal) and birds dominate the Wands, the 9 of Swords has no innate "cruelty" to it etc. The symbols, art, colours - all these work together to prompt our Inner Self to guide us. It is most certainly not the case here unfortunately. Thanks for sharing though Lisa💚
Hi there, how are you finding the deck now, have you been able to connect with it? I am asking as I am interested in the deck itself, and also is the book worth buying, does it give understanding on the art for each card? thanks so much for your walk through:)
Hi there! I really want to love this deck. I do. It's beautiful. I had hoped the guidebook would make the art choices on the cards more understandable, but sadly, it didn't. A lot of space was used up showing personal photographs from the creator of their beautiful countryside rather than explain how the art relates to the RWS. It seems more like a "vanity" project than an attempt to create a deck that is useable for newer readers. It was obviously a labour of love, but falls short of being useful for me, personally. The imagery just doesn't follow the RWS system, and unless you are familiar with more advanced meanings and/or can try to find/imagine connections between the art and traditional meanings of the cards, it's just beautiful art and not a practical tarot deck. It really is beautiful, though, I can't stress that enough. I believe this would have been an incredible oracle deck. I just can't use it as tarot. I really have tried. Unfortunately, I will be rehoming this deck and guidebook as I can't see myself ever using it.
It's out of order because that's how the printer sent it to her and putting 700 decks in order before she sent them out would mean more of a delay for the backers. She explained in an update not long ago. Still waiting on my copy ,can't wait .
Yes, that update came after I did the unboxing. I said in the video I thought it might be a quality control issue with the printer, and it now seems that thought was correct. The printer should have made sure they were in order. She shouldn't have to open 700 decks because they didn't do their job properly.
I’ve just randomly stumbled upon your channel and this video, but I simply cannot cope with a woodland creatures deck out in the universe that I don’t own 🤣 so I’ve ordered it ! Going to give it a try. Thanks 😊🍄🐿️🌿
I hope you received it. I backed the kickstarter and never received anything. 5 months after it first shipped and a month after a "tracked" order was supposed to be sent....still nothing!
The worst thing to me is that if you decide to make an abstract deck like this, at least include information about the art in the guidebook. Instead the actual useful information is locked behind needing to purchase a SEPARATE book which people won't want to for a variety of reasons, cost, storage, etc. So you just end up with a confusing deck and no guidance. What's the point of the LWB? We can find keywords anywhere. At least remove the LWB so the cost of the deck can be lowered and maybe people can buy the separate guidebook lol. Just confusing all around.
