This cinematic goes so hard. Love your reactions. For my lore dump that no one would probably find of great importance: The gate arch thingy is called a Noxtoraa, which are erected by Noxus to signify the place is part of Noxus, or conquered by them. Which in this case is the capital of Noxus, the Immortal Bastion, the huge building Mel looks at in the distance. In her vision, she seems to be fighting the Grey Legion, or at least the blood mages aka hemomancers. The ice club that Trundle wields is a True Ice weapon that only a rare kind of people called Iceborn can wield comfortably without suffering death or excruciating frostbite.
at the end, that was leblanc, leader of the Black Rose. It's was also Leblanc in arcane who kidnapped Mel and appeared as a black shadow, giving her the necklace. which is probably why you recognize her voice.

Trundle's weopn is made out of true ice, he got it from a very powerful ice witch - Lissandra, but that is the whole other story, so if you want to know what is true is and who is Trundle you should read his biography. Also even though I would be more exited to see Darius's brother - Draven, whow you saw in the Awaken cinematic, I still was amazed by that fight scene with Trundle, I watched it like a 100 times

The camera movement when Trundle tries to cut off Darius' head is so frickin cool. It's like someone was filming the fight and ran towards them while holding their camera to get a closer angle/look.
She probably looks fairly different without her mask on. Peoples brains play tricks on them when they see non-symetrical faces that should be symetrical. They'll unconsciously replace the parts that 'don't fit' with familiar visuals that match from memory.
I love how Katarina uses the space to her advantage in the fight. She isn't there to defeat the spider lady, she's there to assassinate that man the spider is protecting, and she manages to subtly dance around into position to kill him with a no look backhand spin WHILE dodging the attacks of her opponent. Then she smirks because she knows that move was dope

'Welcome to Noxus' feels like it's about something. A prominent Arcane character appearing just heightens it. And personally I just find the Arcane style extremely appealing even if it's not as 'pretty' in a surface way.
@@lldrumr9095 in a purely visual sense, sure. But they also (imo) are too uncanny valley to put into a show. They work in quick bursts of action where you're not picking up on small imperfections in lip sync, eye motions, stuff like that. In fact idk that any chars talk in those cinematics and there's probably a good reason for that. Also Fortiche is basically Riots partner now, the own minority stake in it. The other cinematics are contracted out to various other FX and animation houses. So Fortiche is the closest thing to an actual in-house studio at this point.

they are a lot more noble that you would think though. their cause involves trying to stop an insane powerful brutal metal emperor from taking over and conquering lands even more than Noxus already does. they need as much power as they can possibly attain just to be able to deal with him, so thats why they were going after hextech, Mel, and now seemingly the weapons of the darkin (which is leblancs "bolder move"). also the spider lady Elise is also part of the black rose!

If you look closely Mel's face IS different. The biggest difference between this and arcane is simply that it's far more detailed, like there are detailes and textures on Mel's face that were only implied by larger brushstrokes in arcane, but are fully realized in this video. The close ups of eyes in this video are probably the most obvious difference, because these eyes are incredibly detailed and arcane just has impressionistic brushstrokes. Basically in arcane, raw brushstrokes are used "fake" texture and are therefore always visible (think Bob Ross), but this video uses much smaller brushstrokes to create much more intentional textures, making it much harder to notice individual brushstrokes. It keeps a lot of the stylization from arcane though in terms of facial structure and proportions, so mel stepping into this artstyle is nearly seamless. 100% would love the next league show to use this artstyle!
A lil fun fact : Leblanc and Vladimir are the founders and true leaders of Noxus , from the shadows. They lived for thousands of years and most Noxians are not even aware of their existence , considering them an urban legend and believing that they died long ago along with the entire black rose cult . They are extremely powerful dark mages , especially Leblanc , as she can be in many different places at the same time and steal the appearence of other people .
yeah, i like how they portrayed her here with, let's call it her weave. She is watching all 3 stories as they are happening. She probably has a clone at the party, in Mel's army, and one with Darius.
I also like how Vladimir is a twist on the classic vampire tropes. He uses this Bloodmagic to empower and heal people more often than using it to destroy or control others. Additionally, it is arguable that LB and Vlad are a couple, don't take my word for it tho. The two do atleast have a *sort of* child in Briar who they made with bloodmagic. Briar has a voiceline for vlad asking "should I call you Vlad or Dad!?".
Ok, so Leblanc is drawing what scenes we see, hinting that she monitors all; first she draws a wolf with the Medarda symbol referencing Mel, then a dagger referencing Kata, then a weird (probably old) sigil of the Triferix referencing Darius, then the dagger getting engulfed by a spider referencing Kata's fight with Elise and at the end she draws sth that we don't know what it is. Some say it's referencing a darkin, some say it's referencing Bilgewater. (I lean towards the latter by I can be wrong)
Always fun to watch. I think you're right, Piltover definitely has a greek vibe to it whilst the Noxians are inspired more by the Romans. Mostly in the way they dress with those red cloaks. This cinematic shows that LoL and Arcane are getting closer in terms of both story telling and art direction, using that great Fortiche style at least for the cinematics. Back in the day, the 2010s, the style was definitely hyper sexualised, but recently it's become closer to a humanised style. Definitely an improvement in a lot of ways.
Some fun stuff in this one - the wolf image on the wall at the beginning overlays Mel on the beach as that shot transitions, so you go from looking at a wolf to looking at _The_ Wolf. The marking on the wolf's forehead looks like the Madarda family crest. Then the weird masquerade mask in the early Katarina scene has eight eyes, foreshadowing you know who (Elise) who's about to come in off the wall. And you have to presume that's a paid hit on that slouching guy, because when Katarina finally cuts him he bleeds money.
genuine question, do you pause a lot at the first viewing to avoid copyright or thats just the style where you like to pause a lot? Reason I ask is because all the pausing is not the best way to view the flow and experience of a music video like this. The editing and the music being interrupted doesn't do a service to the final product theyre presenting. I get it you're excited but wouldnt it be better to do a second watch through where you do all the pausing after? Having said that, I do love your reactions. Holy hell, Mel! How did they make her look even *better* than in Arcane?? Her eyes are mesmerizing and they made her eyebrows more wispy like the tendrils of her magic.
The Female VA at the end was Minnie Driver. It's a pretty safe bet she'll be in a show at some point, I doubt Minnie is doing three sentence gigs in a cinematic for pocketmoney. When do we see a show is the question really. Two more of these cinematics this year already announced + whatever else. Mild hype!

Not sure if you noticed but the reason Katarina smirked at Elise (the spider) when she was climbing upwards is because she managed to kill her target, that guy lounging around while her and Elise were fighting, I think you can see him getting smoked in the foreground at 12:06 and him laying in front of her 14:25

Unless they change Elise and Kats lore I dont really understand why Elise, one of the wealthiest and most powerful noxians would care to protect anyone, I feel like they were playing and dancing around most of the time and that makes It 1000x cooler, of course in the end Elise transformed and I would love to see Kat and Elise in spider form fight but maybe in the next show 🥲

I feel like I'm alone in thinking the spider lady is hotter than Katarina. Also, the art style isn't quite the same. There are subtle differences. The art in this cinematic is slightly more realistic, whereas Arcane's is slightly more stylized and painted. It's most evident in the characters' eyes. The eyelashes are much more detailed in the cinematic than in Arcane.
In terms of style I’d argue it’s most likely just Fortiche‘s own development over the years. This is just their most recent work. Just like Arcane stepped up the animation in between seasons.
Interesting fact: Katarina doesn't have magic, but she does have it in her daggers. Her magician friend performed a blood ritual with Katarina's consent, which connected her to daggers. After the ritual, she can have an infinite number of daggers, control them with telekinesis and teleport to them (in cinematic, there is even a moment when the latter ability is used).

The Legends of Runeterra trailers are fantastic because they give you characterization of several champions in the universe and give you the general flavour for the various regions in the world.
I am deadly afraid of spiders, but still found the spiderwoman Elise very attractive. Very confusing feelings... Such a cool cinematic, the next series can't come soon enough. Hopefully it looks something like that.
I love how technically it’s about their rebranding and “restarting” their lore in LoL, but at the same time we get so many things teased about noxus. Really neat. Also I am at a loss for words, Fortiche just oozes great character designs out of every pore.

I can't believe you popped into my head when I watched the cinematic for the first time. I was losing my mind over Mel, and Katarina, and Leblanc, and at some point I paused and thought to myself "Oh when Claudie sees this..."
Its interesting that you said thats Vile, when the big spider is there. The Character Katarina is fighting is named Elise, She was giving powers from a spider god named Vilemaw.
The deal with the ice is basically there's special magic ice up in the north called True Ice which kills anyone who touches it (unless you're Iceborn which is basically a special magic talent which makes you immune). Trundle (giant blue troll guy) uses a mace made of it, and it effected the axe. Darius (axe guy) surviving even just with how little exposed he was is a major feat in and of itself. Also the reaction to Katarina is understandable lmao, but I gotta show support to my favourite spider lady, she was wonderfully unsettling here and I loved it.
The thing with true ice, the troll is holding a frost club with a shard of true ice in it. Being in contact with true ice kills you, hence Darius touching it is crazy, his arm would be destroyed that is why it's frozen like that after just briefly holding the axe that was in contact with true ice. At the end are two leaders of Black Rose, Vladimir (Viego is related to him) and Leblanc Oh and Katarina is taken, back off Miss. Garen's future wife.
I know a lot of people prefer the fortiche art style but for me personally, I feel like if I see too many cinematics or things in the same really stylised art style, I'll get sick of it, so its better, for me at least, to savor it in small doses and so I actually like having game cinematics in different art styles because once you've been exposed to something for a long time it starts to feel less special
I know what you mean, and I could be totally agree, it is always much better to appreciate diversity in art, but, this is like an introduction to what is coming after Arcane, isn't it? I mean, this is not a cinematic for the video game, is it? So it makes sense to keep the Fortiche style, in this case at least.

Fun fact: Katarina is literally Juliet of League of Legends. Her boyfriend Garen is the very embodiment of all the greatest and most noble ideals upon which Demacia was build, hes the greatest Demacian soldier and a best friend of Demacia's king. Because she is Noxian their relationship is forbidden and they need to keep this a secret, but literally everybody knows about this so i dont know why Riot still goes into ''Romeo & Juliet'' type relationship. Every quotes, voice lines suggest that everybody knows, even the king of Demacia.
Darius (the axe guy) is fighting Trundle (king of Trolls). Trundle is an iceborn who uses a weapon that is true ice. Anyone who is not an iceborn gets frostbitten when they touch true ice.
It's becoming clearer that Riot and Fortiche are a good pairing of IP and animation. Riot definitely put Fortiche on the map. Personally, no shade to Villeneuve's "DUNE", I would love to see Fortiche's version of Jordorowsky's DUNE.

The characters are Mel, Katarina, Elise (Spider lady), Darius (the better jayce daddy), Trundle (fighting Darius), Le Blanc (The deciever/ the one with black tips on fingers) Vladimir (The guy with Le Blanc)... Expected if ever this turns into a series, Swain (General of Noxus), Samira (Black rose), Talon, Viego, Mordekaiser (Reason why Le Blanc wants the world rune), Lucian, Senna, Thresh, Ryze (Protector of runes) World rune, is what Le Blanc wants to have.
I believe Minnie Driver voices LeBlanc here, which is why she may have sounded familiar. She also voiced the Black Rose sorceress in Arcane so it's all but confirmed that that was indeed LeBlanc all along.
The reason why you recognised Leblanc's voice is because Leblanc was in Arcane she was the one who appeared as this shadow figure that talked with Mel

For my lore dump that no one would probably find of great importance:
The gate arch thingy is called a Noxtoraa, which are erected by Noxus to signify the place is part of Noxus, or conquered by them. Which in this case is the capital of Noxus, the Immortal Bastion, the huge building Mel looks at in the distance. In her vision, she seems to be fighting the Grey Legion, or at least the blood mages aka hemomancers.
The ice club that Trundle wields is a True Ice weapon that only a rare kind of people called Iceborn can wield comfortably without suffering death or excruciating frostbite.
Mel painted the Immortal Bastion in season 1 of arcane as well right? :D

at the end, that was leblanc, leader of the Black Rose. It's was also Leblanc in arcane who kidnapped Mel and appeared as a black shadow, giving her the necklace. which is probably why you recognize her voice.
I believe the actress is also Minnie Driver (at least she was in Arcane).

The camera movement when Trundle tries to cut off Darius' head is so frickin cool. It's like someone was filming the fight and ran towards them while holding their camera to get a closer angle/look.

She probably looks fairly different without her mask on. Peoples brains play tricks on them when they see non-symetrical faces that should be symetrical. They'll unconsciously replace the parts that 'don't fit' with familiar visuals that match from memory.
I love how Katarina uses the space to her advantage in the fight. She isn't there to defeat the spider lady, she's there to assassinate that man the spider is protecting, and she manages to subtly dance around into position to kill him with a no look backhand spin WHILE dodging the attacks of her opponent. Then she smirks because she knows that move was dope

The Iceborn STILL feel excruciating pain, everyone else simply di s when touching true ice, even things corrupted by it... That makes Darius MUCH MORE BADASS cuz even for a very short amount of time he held a corrupted weapon..❤

'Welcome to Noxus' feels like it's about something. A prominent Arcane character appearing just heightens it. And personally I just find the Arcane style extremely appealing even if it's not as 'pretty' in a surface way.

@@lldrumr9095 in a purely visual sense, sure. But they also (imo) are too uncanny valley to put into a show. They work in quick bursts of action where you're not picking up on small imperfections in lip sync, eye motions, stuff like that. In fact idk that any chars talk in those cinematics and there's probably a good reason for that.
Also Fortiche is basically Riots partner now, the own minority stake in it. The other cinematics are contracted out to various other FX and animation houses. So Fortiche is the closest thing to an actual in-house studio at this point.
Shortest possible version: Katarina Du Couteau, disgraced Noble first Daugther, trained by her Father (a General) to be an Assassin (instead of having a Childhood) but got too full of herself and lost her Father a important Battle, is on a Mission for revenge ever since.

the woman and the man in the after credits are leaders of black rose order, vladimir and leblanc. they r the ones(they r super strong), ambessa is afraid. they are basically the deep state and trying to control the whole noxus and other neighbouring countries(like piltover). Darius is the general of noxian army and in this cinematic he's fighting with trundle who declared himself as king in a nordic region. the spiderwoman(who fights with katarina) is elise and she is a member of black rose order as well. loved your reaction. thank you :)
they are a lot more noble that you would think though. their cause involves trying to stop an insane powerful brutal metal emperor from taking over and conquering lands even more than Noxus already does. they need as much power as they can possibly attain just to be able to deal with him, so thats why they were going after hextech, Mel, and now seemingly the weapons of the darkin (which is leblancs "bolder move"). also the spider lady Elise is also part of the black rose!

If you look closely Mel's face IS different. The biggest difference between this and arcane is simply that it's far more detailed, like there are detailes and textures on Mel's face that were only implied by larger brushstrokes in arcane, but are fully realized in this video. The close ups of eyes in this video are probably the most obvious difference, because these eyes are incredibly detailed and arcane just has impressionistic brushstrokes. Basically in arcane, raw brushstrokes are used "fake" texture and are therefore always visible (think Bob Ross), but this video uses much smaller brushstrokes to create much more intentional textures, making it much harder to notice individual brushstrokes. It keeps a lot of the stylization from arcane though in terms of facial structure and proportions, so mel stepping into this artstyle is nearly seamless. 100% would love the next league show to use this artstyle!

A lil fun fact : Leblanc and Vladimir are the founders and true leaders of Noxus , from the shadows. They lived for thousands of years and most Noxians are not even aware of their existence , considering them an urban legend and believing that they died long ago along with the entire black rose cult . They are extremely powerful dark mages , especially Leblanc , as she can be in many different places at the same time and steal the appearence of other people .
yeah, i like how they portrayed her here with, let's call it her weave. She is watching all 3 stories as they are happening. She probably has a clone at the party, in Mel's army, and one with Darius.
I also like how Vladimir is a twist on the classic vampire tropes. He uses this Bloodmagic to empower and heal people more often than using it to destroy or control others.
Additionally, it is arguable that LB and Vlad are a couple, don't take my word for it tho. The two do atleast have a *sort of* child in Briar who they made with bloodmagic. Briar has a voiceline for vlad asking "should I call you Vlad or Dad!?".
Ok, so Leblanc is drawing what scenes we see, hinting that she monitors all; first she draws a wolf with the Medarda symbol referencing Mel, then a dagger referencing Kata, then a weird (probably old) sigil of the Triferix referencing Darius, then the dagger getting engulfed by a spider referencing Kata's fight with Elise and at the end she draws sth that we don't know what it is. Some say it's referencing a darkin, some say it's referencing Bilgewater. (I lean towards the latter by I can be wrong)
Always fun to watch. I think you're right, Piltover definitely has a greek vibe to it whilst the Noxians are inspired more by the Romans. Mostly in the way they dress with those red cloaks. This cinematic shows that LoL and Arcane are getting closer in terms of both story telling and art direction, using that great Fortiche style at least for the cinematics. Back in the day, the 2010s, the style was definitely hyper sexualised, but recently it's become closer to a humanised style. Definitely an improvement in a lot of ways.
Noxus' fight culture reminds me of Sparta which is greek.

Some fun stuff in this one - the wolf image on the wall at the beginning overlays Mel on the beach as that shot transitions, so you go from looking at a wolf to looking at _The_ Wolf. The marking on the wolf's forehead looks like the Madarda family crest.
Then the weird masquerade mask in the early Katarina scene has eight eyes, foreshadowing you know who (Elise) who's about to come in off the wall. And you have to presume that's a paid hit on that slouching guy, because when Katarina finally cuts him he bleeds money.

Reason I ask is because all the pausing is not the best way to view the flow and experience of a music video like this. The editing and the music being interrupted doesn't do a service to the final product theyre presenting. Unless they change Elise and Kats lore I dont really understand why Elise, one of the wealthiest and most powerful noxians would care to protect anyone, I feel like they were playing and dancing around most of the time and that makes It 1000x cooler, of course in the end Elise transformed and I would love to see Kat and Elise in spider form fight but maybe in the next show 🥲

I feel like I'm alone in thinking the spider lady is hotter than Katarina.
Also, the art style isn't quite the same. There are subtle differences. The art in this cinematic is slightly more realistic, whereas Arcane's is slightly more stylized and painted. It's most evident in the characters' eyes. The eyelashes are much more detailed in the cinematic than in Arcane.

In terms of style I’d argue it’s most likely just Fortiche‘s own development over the years. This is just their most recent work. Just like Arcane stepped up the animation in between seasons.
Interesting fact: Katarina doesn't have magic, but she does have it in her daggers. Her magician friend performed a blood ritual with Katarina's consent, which connected her to daggers. After the ritual, she can have an infinite number of daggers, control them with telekinesis and teleport to them (in cinematic, there is even a moment when the latter ability is used).

I’ll speak for myself, but I hope also for majority of the people here, that I’m here not for the continuous video. I’m here for your genuine emotions, comments and reactions. Yes, you should listen to comments and what the youtube algorithm tells you to do, but I think it all should be more like a suggestion than a rule. Don’t be scared of stopping and commenting any time you like, but I think you doesn’t need to force it for the sake of algorithm.
Overdoing those things usually leads in losing your own personality in videos, and making it more like a chore than something you would like, and then can came a burnout. I don’t think you’re overdoing it now, but I really wouldn’t like to see an amazing reactor like you to be lost.

The deal with the ice is basically there's special magic ice up in the north called True Ice which kills anyone who touches it (unless you're Iceborn which is basically a special magic talent which makes you immune). Trundle (giant blue troll guy) uses a mace made of it, and it effected the axe. Darius (axe guy) surviving even just with how little exposed he was is a major feat in and of itself.
Also the reaction to Katarina is understandable lmao, but I gotta show support to my favourite spider lady, she was wonderfully unsettling here and I loved it.

The thing with true ice, the troll is holding a frost club with a shard of true ice in it. Being in contact with true ice kills you, hence Darius touching it is crazy, his arm would be destroyed that is why it's frozen like that after just briefly holding the axe that was in contact with true ice.

I know a lot of people prefer the fortiche art style but for me personally, I feel like if I see too many cinematics or things in the same really stylised art style, I'll get sick of it, so its better, for me at least, to savor it in small doses and so I actually like having game cinematics in different art styles because once you've been exposed to something for a long time it starts to feel less special
I know what you mean, and I could be totally agree, it is always much better to appreciate diversity in art, but, this is like an introduction to what is coming after Arcane, isn't it? I mean, this is not a cinematic for the video game, is it? So it makes sense to keep the Fortiche style, in this case at least.

@@Cos.e Yeah, I'm totally agree as an artist myself 😅 people should not belittle the work of others, because for sure it has been hard, animation is very laborious. I don't like all the animation styles I see, but I'm not going to say it's bad either, when it's just not the style I like.

It's becoming clearer that Riot and Fortiche are a good pairing of IP and animation. Riot definitely put Fortiche on the map.
Personally, no shade to Villeneuve's "DUNE", I would love to see Fortiche's version of Jordorowsky's DUNE.
