Thanks guys, just updated my latest solo bike tour check list with a few tips.I have loads of different lists😂 BTW never go without my HRT at 67 I need it😉
I have a Snowpeak 450 double walled titanium mug that I take everywhere with me! Work, hiking, camping, bike packing, etc. I just bought a new Surly Disc Trucker to do all my daily local transportation on as well as some touring at age 60. Loved your breakdown of your gear. Very helpful! But I will find a way to take my Snowpeak mug and titanium chopsticks!
Planning my first bike tour for October, a solo trip down the CA portion of PCH. Watched all your videos of that portion, thank you so much for all the intel! Thank you for the packing cube as a pillow idea. I'm allergic to wool so unfortunately I have to stick w the stinkier fabrics, bummer! Oh, thank you for the myth buster video as well. I was nervous about not being a bike mechanic!
Hi Danette! Glad you found the videos helpful! Yes, definitely know the basics, but you don't need to be a certified mechanic ;). Enjoy your trip down the coast!
fyi you can recycle butane/propane cans in some places, but you have to poke an extra hole in it to be sure its actually empty (when you use it theres still a few drops left). the container itself is just metal
I use 2 small “luggage “ cable locks on bike and panniers for quick stops. Yes people will steal panniers off bikes! A good combination lock with heavy coiled cable (3 metres length), locked bikes even at campsites to a tree!
The one bikepacking trip I've made, I took a twig burning pocket stove to save fuel, always twigs laying around and good ones heat up and focus heat real nice
Great review, thanks... I use a Dutch bike lock and find it good for quick shop visits to restock food/water. Also, a thin wire locking system for panniers and tent; most of my touring is European and includes campsite overbites.
I think any small lock will do. I've seen people using the wire locks. I generally trust people at campsites though I have heard a story of something getting everything stolen overnight 😳
I have white gas, propane, wood, alcohol stoves. There have been trips even locally that I’ve run out of butane cartridges and found nearly impossible to purchase while like you say alcohol can even be purchased even in pharmacies. Draw back they use horrendous amount of fuel to cook with. On extended rainy trips finding dry wood for a stove nearly impossible! So I compromise by taking a butane and a Trangia alcohol stove as backup!
They're called "Mud Butlers": kit.co/RadBikeAdventure/riding-essentials/handsome-cycles-mud A little tricky to install (like all fenders!) but work and look great
Just about to set off on a 10 day tour of burgundy, and am making myself a simple muu muu dress throw out of one xl decathlon colourful sports towel. In your spirit (and mine!) of at least dual use for any item it will be my towel, going to the shower on the campsite outfit, going to the loo in the middle of the night and maybe a dress to visit the campsite snackbarcafe! Hopefully long enough to keep lower legs covered from muzzles, tho might add extra length...Will report back 😅 🇫🇷
I like having a pillow! I'm a light sleeper. I need to look into wool shirts more. I have the jerseys and stuff, but my style of riding doesn't require it.
Right?! I think the pillow will stay hehe. Yes, we really recommend Icebreaker or Smartwool for the wool shirts, just make sure to get it on sale (they usually have a couple big sales on their website every year).

Thank you for the tip Rebecca! Looks great! They do sell them here! Do you find the angle is downward enough for setting up gear in the dark. Just looks like you can't adjust the angle at all.
@@radbikeadventure oh awesome! Yeah so you can't change the angle but the light it emits just goes absolutely everywhere so its pretty good! Loads of different modes as well, I really love mine!
You two have the ideal chemistry going. I wonder if you (both) would make the same tours solo. Did you ever consider to wear this specific bike clothes? Like another couple that I follow on their tour they also just wear "normal" clothes. Plus of course rain gear if necessary. What is your solution for washing like do you use powder or something else? Concerning a good sleep: I love my earplugs!!! ;-) I guess for the Trangia comes a strainer that can be used as cutting board too.

MacBook Air, USB AA charger with rechargeable batteries, portable USB hub. I prefer the laptop for route design, hotel/Warmshowers/camping searches, Google Maps, cell carrier websites, video and picture storage. Also get a woodworking clamp for your selfie stick. No need for your tripod mount then.

Is that a UK brand? I think I've used their gear before. Just checked their website and those panniers look really nice! I like the flap over the top and the external/internal pockets!
Yeah, they're from Nelson, Lancashire. If you like some extra pockets for organizing stuff check out Arkel panniers, thy seem to design their bags around that principle :)

Hi Daniel, great questions. We usually use cardboard boxes for this reason.
