my mini sounds very pleasing to the ears too though, however I will agree that the 500 has one of the best sounding 4 cylinder engines I have ever heard.
I really like both of these cars, I was a MINI fan when I was in college until now. But when I test drive the abarth, I was totally shocked by the exhaust of it! It is awesome! When you drive the car, safe is the first thing we need to care, so maybe the speed is not a big deal of these two cars.
My friend use to own a base mini and trade it in for a Fiat 500 he says that's the worst decision he could ever make, he says the Fiat is way slower and feels very small. In the other hand, I just bough my Cooper S and I go nuts driving it every single day. Minis has its own character and they are noticed everywhere you go
What test is it?!? The Cooper S have 192hp, the 500 Abarth 160hp! Obiusly the winnwe is Cooper! But this car is very uglu for me, the best little sport car is ever 500 Abarth: for the design, for the sound, for the handling...
These cars aren't meant for drag races. They're meant for agile cornering. Doing a drag race with a Mini and an Abarth is like doing a hill climb with a Challenger and a Mustang.
Then they would use the cooper works mini and it would probably still loose. Id take the Biposto any day of the week though. Anyway who cares when you put both the cooper works and biposto on a Tight Down hill course. My Money is on the Biposto
A lot of people don't realize that a 2.0L compared to a 1.4L is 70% larger in displacement. Not fair game at all... Many people easily manage less than 15.4 in a quarter mile with a stock Abarth. Also the price is bullshit, the incentives for Abarths makes it far cheaper than the Mini (got mine for 16k). Don't get me wrong I love the Mini cooper as well but this comparison does ZERO justice.
***** You are right but this is a 2014 model Mini, pre-2014 Cooper S used a 1.6T. This 2014 model Mini Cooper S uses a 2.0L turbo. Even states the engine size in the video...
+Chance Dobbins Exactly, these Mini fanboys are clearly not understanding basic mathematics. The Mini has a 70% larger engine...yet produces 18% more power. It is also just 2.5% quicker over 1/4 mile and 5% faster in a whole mile. It's also £14,000 vs. £18,000 in the UK...eggs with eggs folks! For the extra £4k I'd expect a lot more. just to note: my Abarth 500 is currently running 190bhp (soon to be 220+) and would spank this Cooper S anyway, so really pleased one with 160bhp got so close! This test was flawed from the start
+technotim22 Well all these reviewers like to say the Mini is in the same class as the Abarth which is also wrong. The Abarth 500 is a micro-compact car (U.S. rating, the smallest EPA classification). The Mini Cooper is compact/sub-compact and they are getting bigger every year it seems. Compare the Fiat 500 to things like a Chevy Spark, Scion IQ, Smart Car, etc. Tell me who wins that race and I would be happy to hear the results. That's the only "true" competition here in the U.S. for the 500 and it's pretty weak. You're right, what the Mini does with a 70% larger engine is not impressive at all.
Chance Dobbins Very true my friend, I'm no expert on the U.S. market, but even here in Eurpoe the A500 has little in terms of direct rivals. Just a shame that there are people who leave comments having not considered such points. The Mini is a good car no doubt, but put it up against a Fiesta ST, or even the Abarth Punto Evo! Just like there's no point in comparing an MX-5 (Miata) vs. Porsche Boxter, why compare these 2 cars at all.
+Dave Miller Well the sticker on my window said 26k and I walked out paying 16k. They made too many 2013 models and all being equipped with a manual gearbox they did not sell very sell in the states. So after sitting on the dealership lot for a year and then some... it went down in price substantially. Several forum members have also managed to find deals like I have. I really don't where you're looking. Every Fiat studio within 300 miles of me are offering Abarths with 2-6k off. Your average price payed for a fully loaded Abarth is somewhere around 24k. I like Coopers but they also have their issues. The Abarth is not better than the Cooper S but it offers a completely different driver experience. The imperfections in the Abarth require more driver involvement and it feels mad/crazy compared to cars like the Cooper. It's why people get Abarths over Minis. I can't really explain it to you and when you drive an Abarth some people just don't get it. All good amigo.. just buy the Cooper and be happy wont hurt my feelings lol.
I have a 2014 Abarth 160 HP 170 pt and I dragged a Mini S 1/4 mile, I left him in the Dust. So I find this video laughable, there is no way the Mini would have such gap on the Abarth.
With a simple ECU upgrade, for 700$, you can get a guaranteed extra 25-40 hp in the abarth. With a couple other relativiely cheap upgrades, you can be between 200-250 hp. And the Quarter mile for the Abarth has been tested , almost always in the 15's. 15.3 seconds, by moter trend.
I'd still have the abarth, so much character with good looks, good brand and great noise. Many people have it as a second sporty car to their ferraris and lambos, take Shmee 150 as an example
It's nice to see sub compact cars coming back in rage as they get great fuel economy .I been aveaging 41 mpg with my mini.It comes close to the vw tdi that averaged 42 mpg in Winter and 50 plus with my best was 62mpg.
Dayum, that Mini engine sounds like shit compared to the Fiat's little engine roaring even at speeds of over 110mph. I'd have the Fiat any day since there are plenty of mods to get the power up to the levels of the Mini and much higher than that too.
Undoubtedly the technical superiority of the 500 Abarth mechanics , like a car with less than 600cc and 29 hp less alone this four thousandths of a second below a mini cooper
maurizio neira amaya the difference is that the 1.4L engine is working much closer to his "limit", and that 2.0L is working almost on his minimum..MINI didn't want to use the real power of this engine, but you can "set him free" and discover all he can give
Tyrone Stiltskin the MINI being tested is a cooper S F56 which has a 2.0 bmw engine. The 1.6 you are referring to was the 2nd gen r56 that ran from 07-13 using a PSA engine also found in Renault Clio cups.
ive always preferred the looks of the Mini but those Abarths sound great. Saw one in person and its loud for no reason haha. mini takes it though for me, doesn't seem quite so small.
I just bought my first mini and it's non-turbo verison.I going for the roadster in 3 or 4 years. This car is so much fun to drive and way more comfortable than my 1971 formula 400 that pumped out 325hp.Top end on the bird was 142 mph.
Useless video. Just reading a specs sheet can answer the question without running a silly race. Let's keep in mind the Abarth has a tiny 1.4L under the hood. Furthermore, the Abarth (like many other small-displacement EU racers) are not dragsters, but track car. Get this thing over 40-45 mph, keep the revs high, and that's where the performance shines. A drag-race in an Abarth is as relevant as a hill-climb race in a Hemi Challenger.
M Mora the mini is only a 1.6 stock standard cooper s a non JCW model. Mongoloid. Same kinda cunts who have no problem racing that mini against 2+ litre golf GTI and R models. Fucking wankers.
What sense does it make a test of a mile when there are 30 hp difference? The mini cooper 1.5 has the same 135 hp of the 500 abarth, that was the test to do!
How could you forget to get 0-60 data while doing a mile drag?? On another note, too bad the Fiat doesn't have the bite to match it's bark cause boy does it sound good for what it is
out and out straight line the mini will win (assuming the timing guides don't give u, gotta love the prince engine) but the 500 or indeed the 595 now would keep it on the twisties in real world driving, plus the over engineered pops in the mini are homage to the Abarth and its incredible sound :-)
Fiat needs squeeze some more power out of the Abarth's little engine like the in the Abarth Punto Evo Supersport. That engine has potential and they need to exploit it.
alot of second hand info on alfas. i was afraid to buy one. but i owned one for 10 years, went from 78,000 miles to 154,XXX when i traded it in. in 10 years, i replaced the water pump, battery, alternator, starter, clutch slave and master cylinders, drive shaft u joints, and brake pads. never had to do rotors, NEVER did a valve shim, and never replaced the clutch. ran stronger when i traded it in than it did when i got it. for the record, i also have a "carb'ed nightmare Maserati Biturbo, which has had its quirks, but has defied the reputation for 5 years.
the Mini may be faster but in real life on real roads the Abarth is quicker and definitely more fun. The car has character in spades. My 2016 Pearl Yellow is super, I've never seen another, and Minis are a dime a dozen with BMW repair costs.
Test drove a mini for 1st time today, was a second gen mini cooper s, i didn't like the car, suppose it takes some getting used too, it all just seems a little too funky or girly for my liking, looks the part on outside though but boy was the ride hard. I suppose like most cars, you love or hate them.
The MINI is far and away more comfortable inside where it counts. No matter how a car looks outside, you don't see it from behind the steering wheel. I've driven both, and will (and have ) choose MINI every time. It's BMW vs Fiat, a no brainer if you have the cash. Fiat definitely wins in the price dept., but you get what you pay for.
I like how im reading these comments that Mini coopers are too expensive, but on the two cars compared here, there is a less than $2000 price difference. Yet people are also complaining that it's unfair to compare the two because the Mini's 2.0 is more powerful than the 1.4L. It's like... dude. They're almost the same price. "$2000 MORE? RIPOFF! FIAT LOOKS BETTER AND IS MORE FUN!" I swear these biased Fiat comments. Drive both cars. They're both fun. Stop complaining about the price difference, cheapskates.
hagan la misma prueba con el 500 abarth biposto o el 500 abarth esesse, o el 500 tributo ferrary, o el 500 romeo ferrary y las cosa son muy diferentes literalmente borraria ese mini cooper
Got the ABARTH 500, is a thing of beaty in terms of driver feelings, no aids just you and the tiny 1.4 turbo... Also that race should have been vs the Mini 1.5 turbo.. not the 2.0 turbo wich a much larger engine and turbo
my 1992 civic vx was just as fast but it got me 45 miles a galon and I never had problem fitting in 4 people comfortably cars of today are a joke // I was 16 years old and drove it harddd but some people on internet as you can find got a way of keeping it in lean burn mode and had it deliver 70-80 mpg Difference that i was able to find was The 2012 Fiat 500 Abart - Curb weight (est): 2600 lb Honda Civic VX - Curb weight (set)2094 lbs OEM spec says that a 1/4 mile for a VX is 17sec although I blew the d15z7 and swapped in JDM d15b block of a EX civic, used vx head and vx long gear ratio transmission it was a beast that you get for a $1000 Today you might find one even cheaper...
First of all the base price in these cars are uncomparable. Even if the abarth is slightly slower, i still see it as more of a value. There are plenty of tunes and performance parts that can be bought with that 6000$ saved that would make it blow the doors off the mini. Secondly, the looks of the bubbly mini fall short next to the aggressively designed abarth. I know thats more of an opinion than a fact but im sure most will agree, the abarth just looks so much more badass with all its vents, stripes, and race inspired FULLY FUNCTIONAL ground effects than the mini which just looks like your average small car on the outside and a submarine with all those unnecessarily huge gauges on the inside. And thirdly, idk who was driving or how well their qualified but only 86mph on the quarter mile?! Seriously? Ill get my fiat to 100 in between lights. And how can you finish the standing mile without topping out? On the highway, ive pushed her to 130 and thats it. Theres no more after that, the needles already buried and youve got no more gears to switch into. Idk all im saying is even if the mini was faster, id still take an abarth for what it is, an affordably priced italian hot hatch. Although, the legitamacy of this race is questionable, that abarth was not being pushed..
Nick Sansone I would have to agree, iether the driver doesnt know how to drive or forgot to hit the SPORT mode and take ESC off. Maybe they filled the Abarth up with 87 oct. lol. I am sure the race was some what botched, and there is a speed limiter on the fiats of 132 I do believe. Either way, that is a slow quarter mile time for that car.
I have the abarth model and don't regret it one bit. Modifications are endless and you really get that go kart feel.
Kayos - why would you wanna pay thousands and add mods all to get... a go kart
go kart for sure! love mine!
@@yy17782 you clearly dont know anything about cars. Please dont talk about cars ever again
@@yy17782 what Rob Ri said.

What you dont get is that the fiat copied the minis pops.
Batman The Dark Knight no, imbecile it did not. Mini’s are fake and Fiat’s are cause it doesn’t have a muffler from the factory.
The bmw mini cooper s r50 had the pops from factory before anybody else until dodge and fiat and vkw and ford, jaguar, Mercedes copied the minis pops.
Have you seen the new fiat 500x it hella copied the f56 minis tailights. And the fact that the fiat 500l looks like a paceman.

MINI Cooper S (192 HP) vs Abarth 595 Biposto (190 HP) is the CORRECT!!!
MINI Cooper 1.5T 136 HP vs 500 Abarth 135 HP (500 Turbo USA version)

You can have a loaded Abarth Cabrio, an upgraded ECU (that will kill the Mini) and still have about 10,000$ left over in a similarly equipped Mini!
Not really. You could do the same thing. And an ECU upgrade doesn't fix a 20 car gap
A largely pointless test considering the mini has a bigger engine and a lot more power, from which I think the Abarth faired very well against it!
I'd still have the abarth, so much character with good looks, good brand and great noise. Many people have it as a second sporty car to their ferraris and lambos, take Shmee 150 as an example

Good point well made. A lot of people buy the Cooper S for the badge, when the Cooper is more than enough day to day.
I remember bearings cooper s when I was stock. Right now I'll smoke it making 220 to the wheels I love y abarth and the girls dig it too.
Very good video.
Bellissimo video .
Una prova non corretta.Non é giusto mettere un 2l contro un piccolo 1.4l.
quanto dobbiamo aspettare per un confronto tra le curve?;)

I feel they are downplaying the cabrio abarth option ALOT in these reviews! That car in a convertible is ALOT of F-U-N!
The Abarth sounds so cool
Mini Cooper S supercharger sounds so cool!
Mini cooper!😍😍🚗
Nice match-up of the bad-boys of two cute cars.

Learn ur physics kiddo
Is it just me or are both really slow? Hot climate maybe? At least the mini in the U.K. Should be pushing the low 15's to 100mph easily.
The Fiat Abarth is WAAYYYY more fun than the boring and expensive and unreliable Mini!
Prove to me the B48 engine is unreliable
damn decent effort, but YAY MINI!
The Abarth is way less expensive and a fair bit cheaper to maintain. Mini is ridiculous on both fronts.
VB3 ya because its made by BMW so your getting charged BMW prices for something much cheaper

The new MINIs are kind of not as attractive, but OMG that Abarth got its ASS KICKED! Cooper fan for life! I love driving my baby!
Whilst sheer performance belongs to the cooper, the superior fun factor resides within the Abarth.

FIAT LOOKS BETTER AND IS MORE FUN!" I swear these biased Fiat comments. Drive both cars. They're both fun. Stop complaining about the price difference, cheapskates.
Nothing like the Mini Cooper S Model Stick Shift, It has a lot of turbo and I'm very happy with my mini Cooper 2011
That reliability though :-/
Mini cooper s Vs Audi S1 that would be fair
Abarth Biposto is faster than Mini Cooper S JW (top).
THE 2014 FIAT 500 ABARTH AND THE 2015 MINI COOPER S, IT'S TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE.
the 500 Abarth has "only" 130 HP...the 595 Abarth has 160 HP...the one in the video is the first one (130 HP)
If this is in the US, all of our Abarth got 160hp. Only the "Turbo" models had 130hp.
There is no replacement for displacement.
.. in straight lines, given reasonable grip, gearing, and frontal area.
The mini is to technical and the styling is overplayed whereas the Abarth has personality that wins you over hands down
Unfair....should be cooper s vs abarth 695 or 595......I have tuned mine to 250bhp with various mods.....
Mini sounds like a jet , yeah baby :D
hagan la misma prueba con el 500 abarth biposto o el 500 abarth esesse, o el 500 tributo ferrary, o el 500 romeo ferrary y las cosa son muy diferentes literalmente borraria ese mini cooper
Competition 180cv Abarth.
Turbo Garret y no 160cv, con turbo Ihi.
I like both cars but the mini is a munch better looking car but damn does that abarths exhaust sound mean lol
Oh dear, the 500 was like an annoying wasp chasing after the Mini!
win by horsepower.
Hmmm 160hp FIat vs 189hp Mini....
I think I’d still get the abarth over a mini
mini all the way :)
2.0 TURBO VS 1.4 TURBO? REALLY?
Got the ABARTH 500, is a thing of beaty in terms of driver feelings, no aids just you and the tiny 1.4 turbo... Also that race should have been vs the Mini 1.5 turbo.. not the 2.0 turbo wich a much larger engine and turbo
my 1992 civic vx was just as fast but it got me 45 miles a galon and I never had problem fitting in 4 people comfortably
cars of today are a joke // I was 16 years old and drove it harddd but some people on internet as you can find got a way of keeping it in lean burn mode and had it deliver 70-80 mpg
Difference that i was able to find was
The 2012 Fiat 500 Abart - Curb weight (est): 2600 lb
Honda Civic VX - Curb weight (set)2094 lbs
OEM spec says that a 1/4 mile for a VX is 17sec although I blew the d15z7 and swapped in JDM d15b block of a EX civic, used vx head and vx long gear ratio transmission it was a beast that you get for a $1000 Today you might find one even cheaper...
So if you want to drive fast on an airport runway, you now know which of these two is faster.
That FIAT sounds like sex on wheels.
Oh, it isn't the esseesse.
Mini today is BMW, and Abarth today is Abarth, that´s cult. You love it, or you let it. ;-)
Either way, that is a slow quarter mile time for that car.
buy booth, just to make the mini look damn sexy haha.
I think the driver in the Abarth missed the 3rd gear...No bueno...that's why my Abarth is automatic...hahaha lol
the new mini s destroy the abrth fiat 500
well this video is about abarth and mini....not jaguars....nice car though
I love the fiat.
you cannot beat the cool factor of a abarth when compared to that yellow short bus, lol
lmfao! Gotta love minis!
