I wish Glenn were still alive. Hell, I wish Beethoven were still alive.
Thank you Beethoven, Leonard Rose, Glenn Gould, and CBC!! A treasure.
Lequel est le plus génial des deux?😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰😇😇❤❤🍀🍀🌞🌞

seems hard to believe such stuff could be on tv. my favourite cello and piano.
man, if only stuff like this was on tv today!!!
I’m a Canadian and Gould was s staple on TV and radio as late as the 1990s. I learned a lot about classical music from CBC in those days. But we should also kiss our lucky stars that so much of this content is so widely available on RUclips.
Leonard Rose supremely talented cellist.
❤️
Rose made me want to study cello! Starting in a couple weeks!
He give himself to us through music by nowadays
I wish Glenn Gould, Leonard Rose and Beethoven good night, and Happy New Year! Love you all!
GG is the💖🌐 Genius, the🌹 Happiness🌹! Thanks so much for sharing!💖🌹🎼
Such Talent...very impressive.
I'm sure Glen is sitting at his piano in the heavens playing for the ANGELS !!
I’m sure Leonard Rose is doing the same

So incredibly!
29 yr old glenn gould..nobody better than him
I've noticed for the most part that Rose keeps his bow quite far above the bridge. I would imagine that's why he achieves a purer sound. Cellists (such as myself) still have much to learn from his technique.
It sounds like a growl on the low notes but still incredibly beautiful like a cello should be. If I didn’t learn the piano, I’d learm the cello.
@@pianosbloxworld4460 why not learn both?
@@georgescompositions8872 don’t have time for both
Edit: now I have time for both so of course im learning both
He is the best: several "secret" recordings of Gould practice were recently discovered in Florence in the city archives. Available on RUclips. Dated in 1958 when he visited Italy to perform Mozart concertos.
Can you link them here?

They getting real swifty with it !! 😁👍
great!
I want to see the full episode!
grazie
Best
What a pity they can't walk together any more!
I like to think that the spirits of Beethoven, Gould, and Rose still walk together in the Elysian Fields- the ancient Greek idea of heaven where the spirits of the greats commune.
How can people sleep after 4th movement of 3rd Sonata for piano and cello by Beethoven?))
Perhaps it’s the pianost and cellist sleeping, since with all that bow and finger moving they’ll be tired
🔝🎹🔝
1:17 Oh yes.
As good as Gould !
I wonder if this is Rose's Amati cello? Such a beautiful warm tone.
Yes. Gary Hoffman owns it now.
@@jimp4170 Thank you, Jim. What dream to own that cello!
I know nothing about cello's, I take it from the context thats a valuable brand?
Soloists of Rose's stature don't exactly use branded instruments as a rule. Amati would be the name of the master builder who made that particular cello.
He sees things that few are allowed to
A Beethoven digo.
Impossible speed on cello, even for Rose.
Rose's dexterity even in the thumb position is just remarkable.

Why did the full version video disappear? now i can't find All included Video
Yes, it's a pity. I miss it too. You must buy the Glenn Gould on Television dvd set. It's not expensive at all and easily available.
Jajajaja.
Feliz día a toda gente enamorada.
2:19 is this a violin?
Playing in the thumb position is a finger killer but that's what it takes to play higher range notes on the cello.
There was a time….
Came here for the guud shiet
Proof that two players don't need any connection to produce a great performance.
I've seen photographs of Rose and Gould studying the score of this sonata. Very subtle moments of connection during the performance.
I don't quite understand what you mean about connection. Rose is positioned to watch Gould's hands, which he does, and Gould looks to Rose constantly. Plus they were friends for a long time: they ran the Stratford music Festival together for a number of years.
@@charlotterose6724 Thank you, Charlotte. I have the DVD set which includes this wonderful performance and it's clear that the two performers were in harmony with each other by subtle gesture.
@@charlotterose6724 Exactly!
They do actually, if they didn’t it would be a mess.

What a pity ..... O Gould ... if this man could have had a sex life , he would be today the King of all Kings .....
You know he did, Fritz!
No .
And you can hear it in his music , Mrs. Mari .
Control , control , control , and control .....
No alcohol (Sofronitzky) , no cigars (Schnabel) , and always this damned control .....
And what is a real orgasm , upon you ?
The exact and deep loss of any control , in front of a sex partner , starring at you at this moment ....
Fritz, Gould doesn't seem to be afraid to let an audience see the lack of control over his facial expressions and vocalizations. In his recording of Beethoven Sonata No.31 (Last movement), there are moments of ecstatic expression.
Yes , right .... but the music itself seems to stay under control .... but you are right , on his young years , GG was able , here and there , to loose some dominance upon himself .....
You're so right! Gould's Beethoven sonata 31 (last movement) is incredible. He hypnotises me in that performance.
