One of the greatest sopranos of the 20th century. Eleanor Steber could literally sing anything well. She never left her audience cold. Always full of emotion and that glorious voice!
Terrific! Nice to see the old Kinescope in good shape. Most American Opera stars had to study in Europe to gain recognition. Sterber was one of the first not to and still gain world wide fame.
@@TomElvisSmith I fondly recall all the Met stars on TV, Not just ESS but most of the Talk shows too. Beverly Sills, Robt Merrill etc could be seen on Ed, Johnny or Merv regularly.
@@TomElvisSmith I confess that I was never an opera goer, but at least we were exposed to opera, classkcal, jazz etc. At least have some appreciation of the arts and can enjoy these kinds of performances. 70 years ago this one! That's pretty cool...

I should also post a comment to say that this is a beautiful rendition of "Ave Maria".

Thank you for helping support opera stars on Ed Sullivan, my friend!

@@MostlyBrenda This is true. There was real culture on TV then! You have great taste in music, by the way!

@@MostlyBrenda Yes, I really like it when they post the older clips!
I really appreciate it when you upload this older Toast of the Town footage! I hope you will also post Jan Peerce singing "You'll Never Walk Alone".

My singing teacher
She makes a mistake with the text, but keeps her cool. You can see the gears working...that's live performance!
