    What that comparison shows me is that in DR2 it looks like you are driving down a rough track being bounced about and needing to control the car over a 3D surface. In WRC it looks like you are driving down a smooth tarmac road with a dirt graphic overlay on it.

    • @illuwe
      @illuwe Год назад +33

      You must not have played WRC yourself then. There are stages where you are being bounced around constantly and it's very difficult to go fast without losing control.

      @@illuwe I have not played WRC but from the in car footage Kenya is probably the roughest surface to drive on. Also Kenya in WRC looks noticeably smoother than Argentina in DR2 for which I do have several hundred hours drive time. I don't think that WRC is bad, but it seems to lack the bite the made DR2 feel like you had to learn how to drive the cars within the limits of the environment. There are also bits of DR2 that I would gladly see gone, like the 2 ft high wooden sticks in Aus that could stop a car dead in its tracks.

      The tarmac, gravel and snow feel VERY different in WRC. Gravel doesn't feel anything like tarmac. And even the tarmac changes depending on conditions. Sounds like you are parroting what another reviewer said (I watched that video yesterday) without having played the game yourself. The game has bumps and crests and the cars can be unruly. There is one particular track which has straw in the middle of the road which upsets the car balance all the time. Maybe there could be more pot holes.

    • @Kretunio
      @Kretunio Год назад +3

      Not sure I can agree, DR2 looks more candy like. EA WRC has more pale colours which makes it look more natural, more like a video footage. It certainly doesn't have a next gen graphics, but at least on XSX there are certain things it does better graphically in comparison to DR2 - lightning, how car lights are reflected on the road, snow, gravel. Car lamps! They are way better than DR2, it is actually a light source overlayed by a plastic material, while in DR it was done with textures. I am a big fan of DR/DR2, but EA WRC is a good game, lacks some polishing, hopefully they will still update it.

      Regards the thumbnail image for the video, DR2 still looks far better. In game may be different as you've said. However, seeing some Subaru footage from EA, the blue looks so off and the cars look like the lacquer is a mile thick so doesn't allow the blue come through, particularly at a distance. You perfectly summarized what I feel about these two games. I only wish they could improve performance in EA WRC because I prefer its driving feel with a controller and also career mode. Graphics, it's not as good as Dirt 2, but I can live with it. The problem is that it runs very poorly on low settings at 1080p with a 3060, compared to the smooth 60 frames per second on medium settings at 4K in Dirt 2. Great review.

    • @User-Viy
      @User-Viy Год назад +4

      I probably should consider myself lucky, because I run WRC on 3060 laptop at 1080p on HIGH preset and steam counter shows around 60 FPS most of the time. Going from 43-45 at least, and 75+ at not so detail crowded tracks.
      Microstutters were a big problem in preorder days before launch, but then they miraculously almost disappeared along with vegetation flickering bugs. Screen tears are rare small and barely noticeable.
      Dirt rally 2.0 performance is obviously miles better.
      All this observations lead me to believe that performance issues of WRC are fairly fixable.

    I like this type of straight forward casual comparison. From the footage I'd say, DR2 handle more like early 2000's WRC cars, and EA sports handle more like modern Rally1 cars. The cars in DR2 carries more momentum into the corners. That said, as someone who follows modern WRC, I don't think people realize how responsive and quick modern rally cars are. They do handle like toys at times.

    Dirt Rally 2.0 delivers a better rally experience.
    From the sound up to the car feeling.
    RWD cars in Dirt Rally 2.0 are much much better in every detail.
    Group B in Dirt Rally 2.0 is far way more brutal just like we can see from reality.
    Car mass transfer, suspension work and folding the rally car just before cornering is way superior in Dirt Rally 2.0.
    EA WRC isn't the same Codemasters quality as before and totally a downgrade so maybe next 2 years if they will want to deliver a better quality then yes but I'm not believe for this under EA.

    "fun factor"! You nailed it bro!
    It seems that nowadays all we care about is how "sim" a racing game is and we bash on those "arcady" games. I get that some people are hardcore and want all the realistic graphics and physics etc but imo at the end of the day, these are still "games" that are available on Steam etc.
    When I finish work and sit down at my rig, all I want is to have fun without stressing out too much (I could have just stayed back at work for OT if I want stress) and we seem to have forgotten the purpose of "gaming" - it's to have fun, it's entertainment.
    The point you made about the audio is interesting too. Reminds me of how I thought ACC audio was awesome until later I thought "was that realistic thou when I m driving in a car with helmet on, not sitting in the engine bay?"
    I miss the old days when there was a racing game came out, we didn't debate on how sim it is, instead we just get stuck in and play! For sure people have preferences but "fun" is very important and I agree with you that, for me, WRC is the winner here in that regards!🎉😊

  • @justme_7145
    @justme_7145 Год назад +25

    WRC Generations was slated because it was just plain broken at launch.... To name but a few things: Wheels didn't work correctly, gearbox mechanics were completely broken on ALL vehicles, FFB was near non-existent, rain/snow effects on windscreens and in puddles were absent, there were performance issues and vehicle sounds were all muffled. To make matters worse, because KTR knew Generations was their final entry in the WRC franchise they released a mere two post-launch updates (which fixed very little) and then completely washed their hands of the game - so make up your own mind if the backlash was justifiable or not.
    I absolutely agree with your WRC / DR2 analysis but all things considered, that little dig at the Generations nay-sayers was a tad below the belt.

      yeah, I've been playing Generations recently on PS4, and playing it back-to-back with WRC 8 is like night and day. I think the physics are generally "more realistic" in generations than in 8, but it's not fun (and neither of them are close to DR2 on gravel and snow). all cars spin out way too easily when you use the handbrake, and you have to be extra cautious in the corners. WRC 8 allows you to chuck the cars around and it's more forgiving unless you're going very fast.
      Generations also just runs very poorly. the loading times are ultra long. it crashes once every time I play it, usually towards the end of a long stage. the audio is atrocious... ugh

    • @Utube2Itube
      @Utube2Itube Год назад +3

      I’m actually one of those who preferred Generations in front of Dirt 2.0. We do exist 😊. I didn’t experience any performance problems on Xbox Series X at launch, although my wheel does not have force feedback so I can’t comment on that part.
      My main liking about Generations was the handling with a lot of weight and momentum to the car. You really had to master weight transfer and throttle control to make it through the corners and if you stepped on the brakes too mch it was easy to lock up the wheels and run off the track. I really liked the challenge that these physics introduced.
      Dirt 2.0 wasn’t bad, but it had some quirks that didn’t suit me. The car felt way too light in its rotation, and it felt weirdly unstable at full speed. If you just touched the side of the road the slightest it would go absolutely bananas, shaking like a maracas.
      I really like EA WRC, it’s my new go to rally game, because to me it has merged the best parts of Dirt 2 and WRC G. It’s only the graphics that are worse, but it’s not a game changer. The performance was also bad at launch but it already seems improved after the first patch, and it will only get better.

    Dirt rally 2 was the first rally game I ever tried when I bought a wheel setup. I spent 3 hours in one go trying to just do 1 minute of driving without crashing. I gave up on it and played other racing games instead for a while. Then I bought ea WRC on a crazy discount and if it wasn’t for the rally school section in the game I woundn’t have ever learned to actually rally. I prolly put 200 hours into that game. Got to love it so much I never once opened another racing game to play. I recently thought I should give DR2 another try, and I must say that my enjoyment of it is triple that of ea wrc. It’s definitely more unforgiving of bad technique so I’ve been having some relearning to do but DR2 just so much more fun if you are decent at rally sim. I think ea wrc is better for a beginner. But once u get good you’re due for the upgraded experience. The career mode was better in wrc but tbh, time trials are more fun in general.

In terms of the geometry on and off the track, it's a lot more detailed if you look at what is actually going on with the surfaces. I think there's a vibe of washedoutness to WRC but I'm assuming this is probably because of the more 'realistic' lighting. This has happened in lots of games prior.

Ive only played EA WRC once so far, and like you said, the grip does seem pretty excessive - but real WRC cars do have pretty good grip, so im gonna have to try it again to do a more thorough comparison. Dirt 2.0 does not seem to have anywhere near the grip of real WRC cars, but im pretty new to Dirt 2.0, and pro rally drivers are of course very skilled at getting the right angles before doing corners, so this could be a "ME problem", and not the game being unrealistic. So i like many others really thought that this new ea wrc game by codemasters would be a next gen AAA game which would be as good as wrc gen if not better ? But unfortunately it has fell way short the game is literally broken on single player and multiplayer has screen stutter tearing etc there are thousands of gamers who have complained and you can understand why . This game was obviously made towards the masses like gamers who just use controllers and tried to make it easier to drive and play but all they have created is an arcade game which has numerous issues and bugs !! yes the new patch 1.3 has almost erased some not all of these issues i feel the graphics have improved slightly once the game has been patched a few times then this will be a pick up and play game with a lot of fun factor it will not be even a sim/cade game just an arcade game i have played rally games for years and have actually driven a wrc 2 rally car on gravel and tarmac stages how the hell can they say this is like the real thing ?? the wrc drivers would have been paid to have a go and make positive comments or would even be in contractual agreements but at the end of the day this should not have been released in this state and the dr community who seem to say otherwise are only fooling themselves and trying to proclaim how great this game is and your not doing yrselves any favours as you are allowing ea sports to think that that this is acceptable to launch a game when it really isnt ready !! anyhow thats my rant i just wish the graphics were better the handling model more sim like and it would have been my game to go to but still at this moment its still going to be wrc generations far more realistic than ea wrc !!!!

    in my opinion DiRT Rally 2.0 physics and graphics wise are better. Just like magoo and pretty much everyone here, none of us have real rallying experience so when it comes to the question "which feels more right" or "which makes more sense", I say DiRT. Every mistake you make in DiRT feels justified to you, you can understand that this and that makes sense, you get my point. Graphics isn't even a question. Audio... I'd say EA WRC has a slight edge since the cars have been re-recorded IRL. Can't say that either is much better because both of them have amazing audio.
    side note, I hate EA WRC because of the fact that its built in unreal engine. I don't have the latest tech so my PC is very much mid-end. UE indeed looks amazing graphically but its super difficult to run on high settings, especially for dense games like EA WRC. DiRT Rally 2.0's EGO engine (game engine codemasters has been using in literally every other game on their list) is much easier to run, you will never have issues with it, you can run it on pretty much any computer. Also they switched game engines so the maps look better but in my case, it doesn't.

    I just got WRC for 35€ on Steam due to a bundle. I already had Dirt Rally 2.0 therefore it was this cheap. Also my Thrustmaster T300 RS GT Wheel will arrive in a few days so I can finally enjoy the rally games as they're meant to be

    It's a very solid start to the ea / codemasters generation of wrc I'd say, if the F1 games are anything to go by then I'd say they'll improve on these for a good few years before they start releasing the same shit like F1 22 and 23 was ha

      F1 22 and F1 23 were completely different.

      @@n0body550They weren't "completely different" at all. EA does what EA has always done. They iterate on a title year after year and demand full price for what other sims give you in development updates. Look at the development history of Assetto Corsa, ACC, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, etc. Each of those titles have seen ENORMOUS development changes over their lifespan and each developer keeps trying to move the needle forward which each major update. Compare that to the development cycle of EA and F1. They treat the IP like it's Madden. Fuck 'em.

    DR2.0 is a lot cheaper just now on Steam.. Generations is also at a good price... I don't play rally games that often but I have a couple from the Dirt franchise.. Not that fussed about the gymkanna arcade jobbers but there you go.
    Hey LM.. what steering wheel/pedal set would you recommend for a casual driving sim player?

    • @LightningMagoo
      @LightningMagoo  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey buddy. Honestly, if your a casual racer you can't go wrong with the Logitech G29 (or equivalent). The weakest point of the Logitech setup is the pedals, so a G29 + something like Fanatic CSL load cell pedals would be a great beginner kit. The next step is the entry level direct drive setups which are all amazing value whether you go for a Moza, Simagic or Fanatec. Hope that helps. 👍🏽
