Believe me, exploring the Japanese music scene is a never ending rabbit hole of greatness. Gacharic Spin are one of the best bands out there in my opinion. I love that you never know what they are going to do next either. They are another great band that truly excel live!

Irresistible band - one of the oldest of the "young generation" (formed in 2009, with many line-up variations though). Each of them is a fantastic musician, and their variety of music styles is huge! They're actually more a troup or even family than a band. And, no surprise for a japanese band: they're incredible on stage.

The one important rule of thumb when it comes to Gacharic Spin when it comes to genres, if you ever think "I didn't know/don't think that they could/can do that!" then it's either because of:
A: You just haven't heard it yet.
B: They haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
I could probably drop a good.. 5 songs or so and without knowing it's the same band, it would be hard to identify unless one is paying attention to stuff like the voices. Because it's all so different.
I Wish I, is where people usually go after this so that's one recommendation that has already been posted.
Kachikachiyama is a trip. A bit similar to this but possibly even crazier when it comes to changing things up.
    Replica is different again.
Tamashii (live from 2019, has more crazy stuff and also a good example of what you might get in a live show. There's also a toys version that should also be done if you go for this one).
Magic Umbrella Girl (Live also live, obligatory Tomo-Zo song).
And as a sixth bit of fun: Lock On from the Pit. Show closer after a 2 hour concert.

Great reaction and yes, another rabbit hole. This band will surprise you with every song, they don''t like to do the same songs over and over. It's a deep rabbit hole with a lot of twists and turns ahead.

"This should be fun" ... You have no idea how much fun you're going to have with this band. :) You say that Japanese bands are unpredictable? Rarely has this statement been more fitting than for GS, who I like to call a true mystery bag. You really never know what they'll come up with next. But what I do know is that I can't remember ever having seen a band that radiates more energy than these ladies. Next 'I Wish I' and you'll understand.... 🔥🤘🏻
Would you like to hear a 'short' excerpt from their story? With pleasure... :)
Bassist Koga is the founder of GS together with Hana (here on drums) who joined forces in 2009. A few months later, guitarist Tomo-Zo followed and together with vocalist Armmy the first line-up was complete. A little later, Oreo Reona (usually just called Oreo) joined as the keyboardist.
In 2012 Armmy left the band, officially for health reasons, but there are also rumors that there were issues between her and the others. What however is not a rumor is that Armmy passed away in 2015 for unknown reasons.
After losing their vocalist, Hana and Oreo took over this part, but since the two of them were quite tied up by their instruments, they added 2 dancers/stage performers a little later, which you will see if you watch earlier videos of GS. This concept was maintained until 2017/2018, when the stage performers gradually went their own ways.
Still with me? Well, take a deep breath, because here comes the slightly more complicated part. :)
In 2018/2019, Hana felt that something has to change. They wanted a new permanent singer, who was actually already found, so that Hana and Oreo can fully concentrate on playing. However, the new singer backed out just before the start of their tour, so Hana handed over her drumsticks to a young drummer named Yuri, and went to the front herself with a guitar in her hand, still doing vocals. (Yes, she is the perfect example of a multi-talent). Oh, you don't see the dear Yuri in this video here, because she was on maternity leave at that time. That's why Hana once again picked up the drumsticks. :)
At about the same time, Koga discovered the then 17-year-old Angelina at a school festival and asked her if she would like to participate in the casting as a supporting microphone performer. A stroke of luck, as it turned out. Thrown in at the deep end, Angelina suddenly found herself on stage as a lead vocalist. But with her energy and quick learning ability, she fully took on this role within no time.
That's how we got the current lineup of GS, which looks like the following.
    » F Choppa Koga (bass)
    » Hana (guitar, vocals)
    » Tomo-Zo (guitar)
    » Oreo Reona (keyboard, vocals)
    » Yuri (drums)
» Angelina 1/3 or Angie (vocals) ► 1/3 because her roots are Japanese, Spanish as well as Filipino.
Believe me, just as adventurous as their story will be your further journey with these ladies. :)

One of the early tracks on my own Jrock journey and still one of the best. They are quite eclectic, but this sound is easily my favorite from them.
I also suggest kachi kachi yama and Mirai Ronso

    No one else like GS
They have a song called Rabbithole if you want to commit to the rabbithole deep dive with an appropriately named track, you can find a live version from a livestream on RUclips
There are also excellent live versions of MindSet and I Wish I

Question: what genre is Gacharic Spin? 🤔
    Answer: Yes.
I can't think of a genre they haven't experimented with. Keep going with GS and find out just how talented these musical alchemists are. Turning music into gold since 2009.

it is what happens when funk meets rock and gets introduced to jazz with a techno girlfriend ... oh what the hell they do not fit into any genre that's what makes them great

A lot of Japanese rock and metal culture brings up the subject of individuality in a largely conformist traditional culture.
The school scene with Angie dumping her stuff on the steps, grabbing scissors and cutting her hair and suddenly it's bright pink? That comes from Japanese school rules that prohibit hair dye, amd if you have any other hair color than black, you have to present a note from your doctor saying it is your natural hair color. So this is a declaration of independence and burning that bridge.
I personally hear some jazz-rock fusion here. But GS is its own genre fluid thing.
