I appreciated your introduction of *first* defining what "branding" means. I find there's so many people that think we need a logo, a name, a this or that----but no one really understands what it is. So, thank you for defining it for this episode. My favorite trend is banded house, not a house of brands.
I'm so glad you brought up the "branded house" vs. a "house of brands." When I started as Creative Director at my church, the left hand had no clue what the right was doing. Everyone did what was right in their own mind. So everything looked different; there was no central "identity." So I recreated not only our church logo but identities for each of our main ministries that all had similar elements in a similar style to bring them all into the branded house look. My reasoning to them was that we are one church regardless of which ministry is our focus. We all represent the same tenets, so we should look like we're from the same church. It's still a daily struggle, but after 5 years, we're getting there!
Good info... it's what David Olgivy was preaching 50 years ago:). Glad to see you're encouraging the church to recognize how people relate to organizations.
This is really good! I needed to hear the 2nd positive trend about the branded church. We were about to change our youth and children's ministry names to something 'creative' and given this video we are heavily considering not doing that. One issue that we have with our church is that our churches name does not sound that great with "Student" or "Youth" behind it. We use an acronym to shorten it to EFCN Youth but our church is wanted to slide away from acronyms as well. In a tight spot right now. But Jesus is still Lord and it'll all be okay :)
haha "No one's ever done that to any logo" Ummm I've had it done to logos I've made. Usually when you give them to people who then use them in MS office programs.
Serious question. I work for a small disciples of Christ church who has had a chalice logo for years. Do we keep it or nah? It’s a very traditional church. I’ve been scared to design something new - but the chalice is a fundamental sign of the denomination. Help!
Love these! We are at the beginning of a 4 Phase renovation and new build and perfectly positioned to rebrand from our 50-year-old church name. So I want to set us up for longterm success! Any resources for how to build a color matrix for our church?
Hey Kieran - that the color matrix we use internally here at Pro Church Tools, so we're not currently giving out the password. But if you're working on picking a palette and putting together a color matrix, you may want to start with a tool like: coolors.co 😊
@@prochurchtools I searched for a similar tool online and didn't come up with anything. Do you know of one? I mean, there are plenty of tools to create the 5-color-type palettes you (slightly derisively!) mentioned in the video, but I didn't find anything like what you described.
There is a part of me that's uncomfortable about this level of detail regards branding, marketing and imagery. Surely the word of God should be enough.. right?? Christianity has been relevant throughout the world for thousands of years....right?? The Good News and the message has proved itself to be sufficient..... right?? Wrong!! As you said the world has changed. Churches who scoff at these ideas are somewhat outdated and may struggle to get new members in the long term This is an excellent and thought provoking video. Many thanks and well done
Great! Love your vids as always. I loved the colours matrix and short naming trends (probably because I'm also into visual brand development). When I heard the last one about a sermon series on doubt, a light bulb lit up in my head. I know a minister here in Nigeria (@lekealder), who doesn't pastor a church, who does something along those lines (answering the difficult questions). He has a Twitter series called Letters to Jack, Letters to Jill. He has a website too that addresses those difficult questions people ask about the Christian faith myilluminaire.com
“We welcome all worship expressions” is code talk for “any expression except for traditional.”
Regularly addressing doubt-yes! Doubt our doubts. Great thought-provoking stuff as always. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching, Merleen!

Thanks for watching, Julie! You can't go too far with establishing a great brand if you don't first know what it is.

This blessed me. I’m leading the charge for my church in rebranding AND presenting it to Leadership. This really, really helped me!
Thanks for watching Trevis! So glad you enjoyed it. 😊
I not only liked it, I loved it! Thank you for all you guys do. Very informative and inspiring. : )
Appreciate it!
How does one go about creating a color matrix??
This is sooooo helpful!!! I like it like it lol

Shortening your church's name is always a great option!
So that color matrix generator is cool, but even after Googling, I can't find it! Or an alternative. Help!
Enjoyed the video but why would you mention the color matrix and not give out the password……

This is Gold, boys!
This is so good. I totally hate being a house of brands. We have Mix Youth, Lift Ladies, Ignite young people class, etc
#brandedhouse

Sounds like you're in a really exciting place Danielle!
When first picking colors we suggest using a tool like: coolors.co 😊
You can shorten your next daughters name to “say.” My wife has an employee named Sailor, and everyone just calls her Sai. It works!
video idea: best marketing swag to buy--coffee cups, etc
@5:35 Who stretches the logo? *raises hand* My wonderful, amazing lead pastor. *cough*
😬
Personally liked the old PCT logo more. :)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How does one develop a colour matrix for their church?
Hey Justin - a great place to start is by choosing a colour palette for your church. A tool like coolors.co can be helpful for this. 😊
This is awesome, am going to mentor a product designer for our church
Love it!
Great tips, guys! Where did the stats about doubt come from? Thanks!
Hey Carrie - those stats came from Barna. We also recently put out an Instagram post referencing them as well: instagram.com/p/B1RIN39nQEc/ 😊
Great transfer of knowledge
please what is the password for the colour metric website
This is just an internal tool we use. I don't even remember the password!
@@prochurchtools ok thanks
Pro tip < is less than...always think of it as a clamped letter L 😃
Soooo.... did you find out the password for colors.prochur.ch ?
Hey Kieran - that the color matrix we use internally here at Pro Church Tools, so we're not currently giving out the password. But if you're working on picking a palette and putting together a color matrix, you may want to start with a tool like: coolors.co 😊
Bacon is never overrated!!!
Great episode guys! Also, bacon makes everything taste better.
I won't argue with that. Cooking in bacon lard is also 👌
Do you guys work with Spanish ministries?
Alex, for future reference, the alligator wants to eat the bigger number.
But is that called greater than or less than?! I think that's what we all forget!
@@thevineyardlife lol it's read left to right so if the small side is on the left it's less than if the larger side in on the left it's greater than.

That was funny. Our Men's group is M.O.B. as well... but Men Of Balance.
😂
So is colors.prochur.ch publicly available?
No. It's just an internal tool we use. I don't even remember the password!

5:30-FALSE. Definitely had people do this to our logo before. Makes me sob.

I was all in on this video until you said Bacon is overrated. Hard to watch after that.
I will never back down.
I agree with most of this except for one major issue...bacon IS NOT overrated. Unsub (Kidding). 😄
I will go to the grave with this opinion.
