I just replaced those two plastic gears. The teeth were torn up. Now I know why. I put a set screw in the top arm so it's adjustable as the parts wear.

Thank you for your video. I have a similar model washer with this issue, so will investigate; hopefully your creative repair will be the right solution for me as well!

I don't typically post but this was even more helpful than samsung. I just wanted to know what it was supposed to sound and look like while it is agitating. thank you!

I don't post videos all the time just for the sake of making videos - only when I find a solution to something weird that no one has a video of yet. Glad it helped you out!

Mine grinds on spin, so I think the plastic teeth may have worn. Can't seem to crack that 17mm nut loose, though. Waiting for some penetrating oil to hopefully help loosen it.

This washer does NOT have a transmission and I don’t think there are bearings on this washer either which is why you don’t really see Samsung top loaders get really loud. But you do see the Whirlpool and sometimes GE models where you notice that they get really loud before the machine breaks entirely. Most older washers had a bearing in the transmission so do most vertical modular designs but I do believe many of the new direct drive designs don’t have bearings. Examples of vertical modular washer designs include Whirlpool, GE, and the new Frigidaire stacked units. Those all use the vertical modular designs and it’s actually a pretty generic design used on washing machines

Thank you for the videos. Have the same washer with the same model number. It started making that grinding noise last night enough for me to be concerned and almost thought about having to buy a new one. I do have one question please tell me why its called the Exploding Washer??

There is a factory recall on it. If you wash heavy or bulky loads on other than Bedding/Waterproof cycle it may come apart.
There is a warning sticker on my washer. I wish I could post a picture.

What was the final measurements on the black washer you added? Also you stated you had to file it down. Can you explain? Thanks

Mine doesn't seem to spin very fast and the clothes are unusually wet and heavy. No codes. The dryer that came with it (bought the used set) needed drum wheels, something I've never seen before. I assume it's from heavy wet clothes.

I think I have the same issue. Exact same washer. Started off making a faint gringing during agitate cycle. Not knocking or anything like that. Over time it got worse and now it work at all. I disassembled it like u have done. Have t pulled off pulley yet tho. Only difference is mine was now making loud grinding when trying spin cycle too. Do u think those plastic arms might just be worn too bad now

What the levers and shift motor do are pull it from it's default position which is spin to disengage the basket from the agitator. When they are worn there is not enough disengagement travel and the two splines rub creating the chatter noise. It would be faint at first but as the wear gets worse the chatter would be louder. At some point the basket will remain engaged and the washer will try to agitate with the basket engaged. Rocking that whole mass back and forth will draw excessive current and the processor will give up and stop the washer to prevent damage. You need to restore enough clearance like I did with mine and then the machine should be happy again. Good luck!

@@PAballoonists mine must have been worn down pretty good bc it took a good size shim to make it work. Quiet as a mouse tho now. Thanks a ton. So glad I found your videos. Now I just need a better way to fix the shim so it doesn't slip out. Did the plastic washer glued work for you as the final fix

@@jam_2315 Yes it did. I used a hard black plastic washer that just fit over the nib on the one lever as you see in the video and I super glued it in place. Then I just use a file and shaped it so I ended up with the clearance that I wanted when the shifter motor pulled the mechanism into the agitate mode and that it fully disengaged the basket teeth. When the shift motor released the cable I made sure it would fully engage the basket to go into spin mode. It worked perfectly. Still working fine. I would have liked to have been able to order those plastic levers somewhere but Samsung wants to sell you the entire clutch assembly as they call it for over a hundred dollars. It's a shame that the levers aren't available from Samsung or aftermarket but I guess that's how they get you to spend big money on what should be an inexpensive repair! Glad it worked out for you! It's a simple fix once you understand what's happening

@@PAballoonists yea I agree with just being able to buybthe levers. After I ran one small load it agitated very quietly and everything & when it finally got to the spin cycle it way better bt still a hint of the noise. Maybe mine just needs adjusting a tad bit more. Thanks a ton tho.

End of the first cycle now seems I have another problem. The clothes didn't really seem to spin dry enough. We're clumped up and still wet and we're bumping around in there on spin

I wasn't home when it actually went out. GF said it wouldn't agitate or spin. Ima have to hook it back up & see what it will actually do & not do 1st I guess. I just tried a dry spin only cycle & it did its thing... Tried to drain then went to spin and it was so loud then just stopped
