I think the reason why the scale is not shown like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, because till date Bhansali showed the palaces and Mahals suited for Rajput Kings and. For Peshwas for that matter. But at the time of Sambhaji Maharaj, there were no big palaces built. There were only forts which were made by stones and mahals made with woods. Maximum luxury they could show was Shamianas only. May be that could be the reason

I am disappointed that Bollywood has portrayed Hindavi Swarajya as the Maratha Empire, making it look like just a regional kingdom. We Maharashtrians, and even Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, never called it the Maratha Samrajya. Shivaji Maharaj's dream was to create Hindavi Swarajya across the entire Indian subcontinent-Swarajya meaning self-rule, free from slavery or foreign domination. His vision was to recreate Hindus' Bharatvarsh and establish a Ram Rajya, a kingdom of justice and prosperity for everyone.
When Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took an oath, he cut his finger, offered his blood to the Shivling, and said, "हे हिंदवी स्वराज्य व्हावे ही श्रींची इच्छा आहे" (He Hindavi Swarajya vhave hi Shrinchi ichha aahe), which means "हे हिंदवी स्वराज्य हो, यह श्री की इच्छा है" in Hindi, or "The creation of Hindavi Swarajya is the will of Ishwar (Lord Shiva)." But Bollywood has changed this to say Rajya instead of Hindavi Swarajya, making it sound like just any kingdom.
If they are using Shivaji Maharaj's words, they should keep them as they are without changing their meaning. Shivaji Maharaj never wanted to build an empire-his goal was always Swarajya, self-rule for the people. Changing his words and vision disrespects his mission. By calling it the "Maratha Empire," Bollywood is trying to make it look like a family-based, regional, or secular kingdom, which is not true to Shivaji Maharaj's divine vision of Hindavi Swarajya.

    • @maverickcreations8864
      @maverickcreations8864 5 часов назад +3

Absolutely! I remember reading the Amar Chitra Katha about Sambhaji as a kid and for me, he was more cerebral and his story, was simpler but more impactful. Seems much closer to the reality and what you are saying about the ideology of Shivaji Maharaj than this hyper masculine, aggression filled movie.
Sambhaji Raje's story inspired me. Chhaava trailer disappointed me and even made me cringe in parts.
Why don't they show the Maratha rulers for the very intelligent, democratic, mostly secular and amazing strategists they were? The Maratha regime under the legacy of these kings were one of the few to actually integrate and coexist with the culture of the people they invaded. Like the Pallavas. That trait, flexibility and soft affects have to be respected.
Being gentle and showing tolerance is not a weakness
Only the war aspect is shown here and their personality itself is reduced to that range of only hard facets. That is very sad.
Liked the costumes though. That's all.

That is why people might have shown gripe. Everyone in maharashtra have watched his story in 772 episodes in extruating detail. Do read about Dr. Amol Kolhe, who came with the title role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a grand Marathi serial Raja Shivchhatrapati in 2009. You would get pumped up listening to its title track by Ajay Atul.
In 2017, he came with Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji, playing Sambhaji Maharaj himself, again a grand Marathi serial.
His contribution has been immense in instilling the belief in us that the story of Chha. Sambhaji Maharaj wasn’t a story of a defeat, rather it was about Courage and how his Balidan was crucial in the history.
Both of his portrayals have garnered huge recognition and respect in Maharashtra.

He gives us everything that we associate with Sambhaji Raje. Passion, aggression, love for our soil and our Shivaji Maharaj, love for our religion. Everything. I first thought they should have picked a Marathi actor to play the part but Vicky changed my opinion. Just one drawback I found is that Vicky seems to have missed getting our Marathi accent right. Really feel bad when his movies like Uddham Singh and Sam Bahadur doesn't reach the much needed success. For any cinema actor the rule one or the first thing that they have to understand is pitch of the film, that one crucial step speaks how your perfomance will turn out!! In my opinion one of such actor who has mastered that is vicky kaushal. Its very rare to see an actor be so good at transitioning from subtle supporting role to then turn into an absolute beast giving your entire persona and adapt into something much more larger than your life. Vicky in masaan and vicky in Chaava are great examples for that and not just that he is the only indian actor i have seen who does complete voice modulation for example sam bahadur.

Indian movies are evolved from nataks, and natyasastra was evolved from ancient stories, legends, religious scriptures etc. in which characters/people used to express their happiness, sadness, grief, excitement, love etc. mostly through poetry and songs, hence songs became a medium to enhance emotions in movies but nowadays(since 80s-90s) songs are made for commercial purposes, without adding anything to the story or character development. Maybe that's why it feels forced.

regarding the grandeur of the sets..... it is worth considering that Shivaji and Sambhaji weren't kings with a rich lineage. They became kings... out of the commoners (hence the name - rayatecha raja). And for them to establish their presence, they mostly had forts as their abode, not palaces. Comparing it with the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movies which showcased the opulence of Rajputs or Peshwas of an already established Maratha empire would be unfair. I may be wrong but I do feel the sets actually do justice to the story.

From the trailer Vicky's potrayal does seem very accurate. How can anyone say otherwise ? Look at his eyes. Its almost as if he is possessed. The loudness during battle and prep scenes is required, that is how fierce the Maratha kings were. Chhatrapati Sambhaji especially so. He was a scholar, a poet and at the same time a fierce fierce warrior. His physicality as well has been defined the same way. Even when he died (I am not sure if they will even be able to show half the brutality of the torture ), his fierce exchanges with his torturers are well known and documented. Vicky seems to have nailed it. Screw the haters.

Problem is that every time a maratha warrior is depicted like a punjabi warrior as if there's no difference punjabi kings were known for their out loud signs meanwhile Marathas were known for ganimi neeti which was later studied by Vietnamese troops and stood against usa the whole identity of a maratha king who is smart/agile/stealthy and fierce is depicted in just one tone, they used to work battles with their stealth traps and not by just hurting shoutings on it and don't get me started on the dance things sad point about this is neither bollywood nor marathi cinema could depict maratha warrior kings as to what they were rather they just look like another south inspired movies which is loud

Just watched the trailer. What an acting by Vicky kaushal. All the dialogues didn’t seem to be over the top and actually has weight in it. Especially when Vicky screams at Akshay khanna "if I die hundreds chava will born but when you d!e, the mughal empire will die" depicting what actually happened in the history also the kind of power aurangzeb too hold. This is no "i am great but he is less" movie. But, a Lion vs Vulture (chava vs aurang) fight. No one is below the belt. This has become very rare in Bollywood nowadays. As, most films be like "Muslim hain to dushman hain"

Its not about the decibel level, the one gripe was how they all are speaking in PROPER HINDI, with no marathi touch.. like the one I witnessed in Bajirao Mastani. Its like they are just cosplaying maratha dynasty, only with costumes. Vicky's demeanor is like any other king, I can't see a peshwa were it not for the costume. I am no maharashtrian, but when I saw Ranveer singh and the peshwa and PC as Kashibai.... it felt so ethereal with their demeanors. I can't see that here.
PS: I know they both are different movies, but with how the similar the characters are, considering the times they are portraying, comparison is inevitable.

'Vicky's demeanor is like any other king, I can't see a peshwa' -
Well the thing is that he's not playing a peshwa in this film. He's playing the role of chhatrapati. Peshwas were prime ministers... chhatrapati was king

Lekin aaj hum tv shows ko hi chance tak nhi dete. Kyu aur kya ye sahi baat hai? Kyuki mene great concept & vision but limited target audience (eg Naagin) ya flop shows bhi dekhe hai....

Gashmeer Mahajani delivered an exceptional performance as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the movie *Sarsenapati Hambirrao Mohite*. Similarly, Amol Khole portrayed Sambhaji Maharaj with grace in the Marathi TV serial *Swarajyaraksha Sambhaji*.
However, two recent movies in this genre failed to resonate with the audience, mainly due to low production value (but it doesn't matter if efforts and not acting direction good ), repetitive historical drama, and miscasting of roles, leaving viewers questioning their appeal.
As for the new trailer, while it looks visually impressive, it feels overly loud, and the sight of "Amcha Raja" (Our King) dancing comes across as a bit off-putting. Why would such a revered figure be depicted that way? 😤

You cannot compare rajput architecture to marathas. Maharashtrians are not slowly or flashy or over the top. They are simple
Live simple life and their homes are simple no matter how rich they are. There were forts not palaces in the maratha empire.
