Sadly in our world today the broken homes and the divorced rates have climax uncontrollably and no one seems to have responsibility anymore or any sense of manners towards another person. Don’t be like them just carry on in life counting the blessings how you dodged the bullets. Stop it right there with the “mom you gave me life. I owe you” crap. You don’t owe her anything. It’s not your job to guilt trip yourself over whether she experienced hardships to give you that 1k or not. The fact that she never visited, never called, and then lied to you twice about the car and then the money, then to never call or make an effort to see you again just goes to show how heartless she is. Don’t follow up on people like that. She’ll end up running you dry. As for your dad, don’t do too much for him either. Only your grandparents deserve love and support from you since they loved and helped you more than your own parents. And the ex girlfriend sure has face time show up at your graduation ceremony. None of them deserve your time of day at all. Focus on your life, your wife and your grandparents.

You are right! Parents should never stop their children from being with the one they love. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring but I'm glad you got the chance to be with your ex one more time. Many of us aren't that lucky. My ex passed away before we got the chance to see each other again. He's gone, but I'm here regretting the what ifs forever.
