Good O Darko and Paul McGowan of PS Audio have both been giving out useful hifi advice over the past few years to enhance the quality of our music systems.

HA! I just commented on Darko's video before clicking this one, and said "In the words of the great Norman Maslov, "It's the Music, Stupid."

a couple of weeks ago I started listing my records on Discogs. Among several others I re-discovered Alan Stivell's Renaissance Of The Celtic Harp. As expected it worth just a few dollars, or euros in my case. I hadn't heard it for decades. It was quite fashionable in the 70s.

Wow what a great episode of Its The Music Stupid
    Few comments
Alan Stivell : french ( Breton ) Gaelic harp player , absolutely wonderful and yes i have seen in bargain bins next to early Chieftain albums
Eels : love them and brought my son to see them because he got in to them through Shrek ; Susans House has one of the greatest samples of all time
And whats with Steve Perrys obsession with Eels ? And his return to live performance
Zappa : on the cover of Absolutely Free
Frank include the words : War Means work for Everyone ; i think they tried to censor ( maybe you know and can clarify )
Darko : message sent loud and clear : I.T.M.S

I saw Eels at the Royal Albert Hall and he announced half way through that he had asked if he could play the famous organ situated high above the stage and they had refused. At the end of the show as we all filed out the organ started up and there was E enjoying himself Phantom of The Opera Style. Great night 👍

i can't believe the eels have been around for long. i loved the records right after the one you mentioned but stopped paying attention somehow..i looked up andy stivell as alan stiver (not being familiar with harpist and not paying enough attention) and he's a retired electric engineer in youngstown... i TRY to listen carefully to you and watch you on multiple venues wondering how you have time to take in so much music and make especially the skillfully edited travel videos. i'm glad you find a way.

Great to see you showcase the Ananda Shankar Experience Mazzy, it's such an incredible album, and the track Reverse on there is worth the price tag alone! Such an extraordinary sitar laden psych trip. as soon as I saw you holding this I dug out my copy and put it on again, great to be reminded of it!

Speaking of the small asides that are on the inner covers of the first two Mothers albums, my favorite is the Quote on "Freak Out" from a 'noted LA disc jockey': "I could clean you boys up and make you as big as the Turtles!" We laughed at the incongruity of it at the time..... and then, lo and behold, 4 years later, Flo and Eddie join the Mothers! Oh, the twists of musical fate! "The present day composer refuses to die!"

Ahh, the Tubes. Also love that song. Saw them real early at the Santa Cruz civic, the whole (seemingly) show. Fee got a bit miffed when everyone pelted him with cigarettes. Fast forward, what's left of the band opened for th B52's on their farewell show up on the hill at Bill Graham. Off to Darko ( :

    Darko has been told.
Now I have to tell my fellow synth gearheads. Norman, you gave me a great idea.
And then go back to my guitarists and bassists to remind them a Fender or Gibson mean nothing unless you do the work.
    And so on...

@mazzysmusic - I bought the Ananda Shankar Experience based on one of your Austin videos. I used to listen to a lot of Ananda Shankar during the 80s and early 90s - he was one of the pioneers of fusion music in my country - India. I had missed this one - and thanks a ton for drawing our attention to this gem. Absolutely superb! Thanks once again!

Slowly getting into Zappa & the Mothers with "Absolutely Free." Would love to find a copy of "Freak Out." I know the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band covered "Help, I'm A Rock," which is great and seems like a Simon & Garfunkel video.

I’m a month older than you. Mom worked for Ampex in the days past. Went to their “warehouse sale” in the loading dock and bought Mothermania on cassette. Basically it is Absolutely Free. And yeah it is one of those records that is in your head ready to sing along to Call any Vegetable.

Glad to see you were in Austin, sure you know your way around more or less. Love The Tubes, wasn't surprised when Prairie Prince went on to drum for XTC a bit. Eel's are definitely a mid to late 90"s throw back. Love to imagine what it must have been like to buy Mother's LP's hot off the presses more or less, had to back track MOI from about 1973 but have since then spent some of my best listening experiences laughing and looking agape at the covers of all of his stuff up to Bongo Fury, then it gets a little spotty. Funny enough it was John Lennon's Sometime in New York City, that clued me in to the wide world of Frank. Hope Austin did you good, cheers. Oh, new Bill Frisell Orchestra on Blue Note is brilliant if you haven't heard check it.

Absolutely Free is also my personal favourite along with One Size Fits All and The Helsinki Concert with the ''Roxy'' band. Pity that, with the exception of his late 80's big band tour, most of his post late-70's work, though never less than musically astonishing was cold-sounding tech overload and never recaptured the warmth and spirit of his earlier bands. Not to mention, though always politically on the money, his humour took a decidedly crueller and even more misogynistic than his usual standards tone.

Tubes came along at an odd time. They were sort of the end of the theatrical bands of the 70's and at the beginning of the new wave bands. And they fell in the crack between. Must admit, never a big fan bc they were so clearly outmatched by other, fresher sounds of new wave bands at the time.
