Yeah. That was part of the 1/72 fleet I built about 20 years ago. I did (what I considered) all the major planes of all sides from WW2 in 1/72 scale, and some of them were pretty hard to find. Getting a P11 was a nightmare. I did this one up in Pacific fleet markings from before the US stopped putting the red circle inside the star to avoid confusion.
Nice little blast from the past, hard to believe that tubby little plane could fight off Imperial Japanese fighters. I think I daydreamed/planned on building this as a hypothetical post-war civilian sports plane but other projects got in the way. Happy modeling!
It's a primitive gunsight. Also, I think at the time, it was intended at last partially fill a dive bomber role, hence the windo in the cockpit floor. Great video as always! Will you do the brown first or the green?
Lovely little kit - I've made a couple. This is going to sound odd, but something about it's squat little shape makes me very happy. It looks great in Finnish markings and winter camouflage. If you can find one, the Matchbox version of this plane is pretty sweet, too, and has rather cool Dutch markings, if I remember correctly. The bit in the cockpit is an Aldiss gun sight, used by the Americans, and dating from ww1. Quite primitive, and replaced in RAF versions with the standard reflector sight. The part behind the pilot is an oxygen tank.
Still a great kit, I like the colour of the plastic....looks a bit like the old grey/metal plastic the kit was in. Pity Airfix didn't correct the glass floor piece for the British version...it's only valid for the American Navy version. Roy Cross had it right when he painted the boxtop. Did you know that the batch the Brits received were originally destined for Belgium. The machines left the States but were hold back as Belgium was being overrun by the Germans, so the delivery was made to the UK who operated them in the Far East against the Japs.
I didn't know about the floor! I just sprayed around it, as I was going to leave it clear. I could have filled and painted over it. Darn. Nice bit of info, cheers

Стекло фонаря лучше показывать на черном фоне...например черном листе бумаги.Будет все прекрасно видно!!Возьмите себе на заметку...может понравится?😮
I believe it's a gun sight
Yep, it’s a usn telescopic gun sight. The raf/Raaf ones used a reflector one
Just missing the stand it would have come with originally!
True. I was just thinking that, unusual to see a kit of its age standless.

I hate canopies too, I have the same thing with masking tape so I just hand paint and clean up the excess with a cocktail stick
A wonderful kit, I have this one and the matchbox kit. I think I have the revell kit also. Would love to see the Finnish version of the plane .

Too late, I'm calling it a tea urn now.

@@nostalgicplastic4323 Do I hear shouting for another build in the near future?
If you don't want to paint canopy frames, strips of decal film colored with acrylic paint will do the trick
Nice idea!
