Great job cleaning out the little garden, best to harvest watermelons when the stem is completly brown. tomato's look really good. Like the other people said give all your extra's to the chickens they love all that stuff
For watermelon ripeness, knock on it. If it sounds like a hollow door without being tinnie, it’s ripe. I usually hold it on my shoulder & next to my ear. Hope this helps.😮❤🎉
You can also get your tomato plans to produce more by beating the plants with a broom or just shake them once you see the flowers come along. Tomato plants love the abuse. Your garden looks great. I've never had one in the shade.
What that’s so interesting!! I’ll have to remember that for next year!! We didn’t really intend to have one in the shade… but it was the sunniest spot 😅 but it still went pretty well I thought!!
During the growing season if you"prune pick" the tomatoe plant leave it focuses more energy in growing the tomatoes instead of growing into a bigger plant.Do you do canning too?During the off growing season study up on the pests control, soil amending and seed saving .That will give you a jumpstart on next season.
Give all of the vegetables and watermelons that aren’t good to your chickens…they’ll love it. You’re doing good for your first garden…next year will be so much better, getting the experience will help you each year. Loved your video💖
GREAT JOB! with the garden even if somethings didn't grow the whole garden was a success because you tried. The best part is you learned and taught some people what worked and what you could do next time. When you want to set your watermelon on something, use cardboard . LOVE FROM IOWA! 😊❤❤❤
The smell of fresh bread in the morning is even better than the smell of coffee and bacon. I remember when I was a kid and grandma got up early and made all three, coffee, bread, bacon and eggs....what a great start to the day. You can ripen tomatos off the vine. Put them in a paper bag and let them sit in a warm place. You can also make sweet (pickle like) relish out of green tomatos.
@@AlgiereHomestead Not sure. I think so. Cassie at Walker Family Farm & Hidden Heights Farm would be great resources. Their chickens are healthy & producing.
@@AlgiereHomestead Its good to build a bin, where you can throw plant trimmings, which are full of nutrients, as well as your chicken poop, which likewise is good fertilizer. Mix them together and turn the pile from time to time, leave it sit and it will breakdown to become rich garden soil. Earthworms will also help the process.

Thank you so much!! The chickens were definitely happy about the watermelons!! 🥰
I think they taste better when I pick them a little early and they finish ripen inside. Good first garden.
Oh perfect!! 😍 thank you!!
A tip if u didn't already know. You can pull the green tomatoes a little early l, place them in a window sill & let finish ripen.
I think I’ll do that with the other ones I have then!! Thanks 🙏🏼
You can knock on ur watermelon to check ripeness. If ripe, it will sound hollow.
Aaahhh that’s good to know!!

The chickens will eat the bugs, some greens & fruit & veggies rotten or otherwise. That can help.❤🎉😊
Thanks for the tip! They were definitely having a good time in there. Have you noticed if they ever try to eat the good veggies though?

Do you compost you garden weeds, grass and trimmings, with your chicken poop. This is a great way to build your soil.
ahhh no!! That is a great idea! Do you just pile them all up?
