    True for indexes, but there are some individual stocks that I’ve just had crazy up-and-down moves. Managing options on those is quite challenging

    Tom, what is the difference between Implied Volatility vs Implied volatility percentile as in TOS? Thanks

    • @babyscreams6343
      @babyscreams6343 7 месяцев назад +1

      1. Come on, Tom is not answering your comment (but FYI sometimes questions/comments in LIVE chat will get funneled to the live show - but not questions like this).
      2. IV percentile tells you what percent of the time IV was lower than the current IV, in the last year. Think of it like your ranking percentile score on a standardized test.

    • @LevelofClarity
      @LevelofClarity 7 месяцев назад +4

      I’m not Tom, but here it is. IV is simply a measure of expected volatility whereas IV percentile is the IV measured against itself. IV percentile tells you whether or not the IV is high relative to what it has been in recent history. IV tells you what kind of price volatility should be expected.

    I guess I don't know what i'm supposed to do with this information? Be an option buyer instead off selleer because the chance of IV expansion is higher in a low IV environment?

      The takeaway is to be prepared to manage risk in short options positions, especially if you're trading naked. What this segment is suggesting is that based on the last two years we are in a position where premium (options' extrinsic value) may expand at a greater-than-expected rate if we get a greater than 1- 2% down move. It is not suggesting that we should be buyers rather than sellers. At least this is my takeaway.

    • @SuicidelG
      @SuicidelG 7 месяцев назад

      @@LevelofClarity Are they referring to a single day 1-2% drop or cumulative drop? I sell 1dte spreads on SPX and the VIX has seen a decent sized % increase in value but I've not seen a corresponding increase in extrinsic that has allowed me to widen my distances from atm as I would have expected to see. I've still been winning all my trades, but maybe i'll see that expansion that will allow for me to got 5-10pts wider in the next few days.

    • @LevelofClarity
      @LevelofClarity 7 месяцев назад

      @@SuicidelG They are referring to single day declines of 1 - 2%. As they say, if what you’re doing is working then keep it up until it doesn’t. If/When we get an intraday move of this magnitude it’ll be interesting to see if there is a noticeable difference in premium expansion. If you’re playing mostly ATM you’re going to feel the deltas kick in more than anything on these bigger moves. You’ll probably only notice any kind of difference in premium in the 10 - 30 delta options.

      The small shirt size is motivation. Not sure how tall he is but if he was an average height of 5’10..it should actually fit and look good if he got down to about 165ish.
