It was originally done by Tommy James and the Shondells. The song's title was inspired by Tommy James' view of the "M.O.N.Y." sign atop the Mutual of New York Building on the New York City skyline from his Manhattan apartment.
Ohhhh okay, thanks Scott!
@@TheAdventuresofTNT These guys were fantastic live. Steve Stevens is a world class guitarist and song-writer. He did the solo for *Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana,* among many other great solos. He's got his own sound that you'll hear stand out on other people's albums.
@@s.mcpherson6354 Steve is also on the soundtrack to Top Gun.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT y'all should check out Tommy James' original version.
Tommy James and the Shondells are an awesome band, they had so many hits. This was a big song for Billy Idol, and Tiffany got big covering their song "I Think I'm Alone Now"
I can remember being on the dance floor and when this song came on everybody screamed a chant Billy started "Hey! Get L@*D! Get F%*@ED!
Crude chant. Get lost, Billy.
One of the best live acts I’ve ever seen in concert. He is bloody amazing
I didnt see him live until around 2014. He still blew my mind .he sounded amazing, looked amazing, as if time stood still
I cannot overstate how insane it was to dance to this in a bar, club, frat party etc in the 80s. Everyone just went insane, screaming, jumping around...and there's an unofficial chorus that everyone knows & yells that's rated X, lol. I'm continue to be grateful to have been around in the 80s. It was as fun as it looks and nothing today comes close in comparison.
Lol. Still can't help but sing that verse to myself whenever I hear the song to this day 😂
@@lisalovemc717 🤣I know! I very clearly remember screaming it with everyone else in packed bars when that song was played in the 80s...so fun.
This song has been played at countless weddings. Its one of the best dance songs around.
This cover song was huge in the 80s but banned at alot of high school dances . At a certain part in the song students used to yell out ". Hey, Get laid. Get f*cked" . It was quite common. Not all schools banned it but it was banned at some.
It was hey mother f#ckers , Get laid. Get f*cked" .
On the short list of best dance songs of all time. Hard to not like Billy Idol.
This live version was done before Billy and his fans adopted a choice 5 word slogan after each utterance of "Mony Mony" that started with "Hey...Get....." Search for later live versions.
Lol! I know I can’t listen to it with out that playing in my head
@@Nana_Reads It’s the Billy Idol fans version of “Sweet Caroline” when Neil Diamond’s fans are shouting “So good, so good, so good”!
I just typed that, I didn't see your response...so much fun then!
I remember the summer '87 this was THE party song! Guaranteed to get everyone out on the dance floor.
This song set a record at the time. When it went to #1 in 1987, it replaced Tiffany's version of "I Think We're Alone Now" at #1. Both songs were cowritten by Tommy James and were hits by him and his group. That was the first time that a cover song replaced a cover song from the same group at #1. 👍👍
Thanks guys - awesome - Billy may the most underrated of the rock stars - truly a great artist, singer, songwriter and his guitarist Steve Stevens is an icon.
OMG! No way you've never heard Billy Idol. It was baked into my kids "bed time lullabyes" when they were babies. They would cry for this, Ozzy and Van Halen. And yea, they are still weird 40 years later. 😂
Love this song
Billy Idol is a force of nature, simply amazing. Been a fan since first hearing him back in the '80s, will be 'til I die. Probably longer than that. Keep rockin', Billy! We love you!
Billy Idol has one of the most talented, entertaining guitarist in Steve Stevens!
A good remake of Tommy James and the SHondells 60s hit.
Great song!! 😅
Já não existe música 🎸🎷 desta não há 😢😢❤❤❤ granda paleta de som
That lady on keyboards is my friend Lydia Young may she rest in peace I love u n miss you
The only way to listen to this is at full volume ❤❤❤❤
This is the song you should have bet her she couldn't sit still. Easy money .🤘😎🤘
I'm glad you guys liked his cover of the song. Last summer olympics on tv they played part of Billy Idol's mony mony of the athletes. In the old days when this came out early 80's, it would get banned from school dances, proms etc. kids would insert the dirty lyrics and scream'in. in between the versus they would say "Get laid, Get Fuck'd", and i have seen live versions where billy adds it in etc. I'm glad you guys enjoy his music. I highly, highly recommend you guys watch on here, Flesh for Fantasy, Dancing with myself, Cradle of Love and one of his most famous songs White WEDDING! Others you might like by him Hot in the city, Don't Need a gun etc. I'm a huge billy fan. definitely check out his other stuffs. and he has new music too!! Break me down from a newer album is one of my favs from last couple of years.
Seat dancing at it's best 💥
Tommy James couldn't decide on a name for this song, looked out the hotel window and saw the "Mutual Of New York" (MONY) billboard and said HEY ! . . . . .
Please more Billy. try "To Be a Lover" or "Rock the Cradle of Love" Some will say 'Eyes Without a Face', But I think you will enjoy the other two more. :)
Dancin with you 🙂💃🕺
Billy was one of those that crossed so many genres. You didn't know if he was "your" music. Could be metal, could be pop, could be punk. He was just fun.
Billy Idol is such an icon. Never fails to cheer me up when I'm down
Ok, guys. This is especially you. My favorite Billy Idol is TO BE a LOVER. There was an interview with Billy after the video came out on MTV where he says that he did his best Elvis impression in that video. It is full-blown 8o's. Pimped out girls singing backup. The clothes, the hair, the sass, and heart pumping rhythm all work together to bring you to a sweaty climax. For a brief moment, as the music cools, Billy leans in to make his low breathy plea before moving in for the kill. Then he takes his place with the dancers to pull off the one move Elvis never did. I've already given most of it away, but your eyes will be amazed when he does what all the bad boys do. Just slide the underneath and get out of the way. Your wife might need a cigarette afterward.
FLESH FOR FANTASY is pretty good, too. Enjoy
Billy has been doing this song & L. A. Woman in his live shows for decades. Always gets the crowd going.

Billy Idol was Mr. 1980's
Y’all need to get you some of that leather attire. 😂
Absolutely! I remember 1982, on my birthday, getting my copy of Rolling Stone with Billy on the cover in very little leather, and nothing else. Thrilled! Except for one thing....the old ladies at the post office had looked at it so much that it was dog eared. 😅
Billy Idol - Hot In The City (Official Music Video)
Omgoodness
Billy Idol ❤
Dancing to this in the clubs, hall parties and even weddings. People would chant to the chorus...
" Hey MF, Get Laid, Get F*cked! "......very interesting to see everyone do this!
From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
The original song was done by Tommy James and the Shondells Listen to that version. EVERY rock singer in tthe 80s wore leather and the dangle earrings 😜..
He got some of his Moves from Elvis like the Elvis lip and the guitarist was on a Michael Jackson video getting down on the guitar a song called dirty Diana
She gets it 😉
Soulshine by The Allman Brothers
Frat party central and most of us know the unofficial lyrics (big grin)
the guitarist steve stevens is one of the best guitarists ever
Great reaction! As mentioned below...popular wedding song. although kinda funny when all the kids start singing the "swear-word" version of Mony Mony sung in all clubs back in the day. The adults are like??? haha
This song came on at my local corner store a few weeks ago and everyone sang that part. We will never give that version up. 🤣
This is a fun tune that I have heard at every wedding I have ever been to & I am 70... also white. It shocks me to know that you guys have never heard it & it is yet another example of what we are exposed to growing up, can be different culturally. Like you, I have opened my mind & am having fun hearing lots of new music that I have missed out on. Love watching you two.
I love to see Tasha rocking out.
Back in the clubs when this was played or when the bands played this song, the crowds would sing "get laid get fucked" during certain parts of the song in the chorus or in between certain verses.
The original group who wrote got the name from the front if a building of a financial group.
Yeah, many a blazing drunk college dance night had you screaming along to this song.
yes damn it !!! LOL 🔥🔥🔥🎶🎵🎸🎸
MONY blinked all night from hotel room. Mutual of Omaha New York.
MONY IS A GIRL!!!❤❤❤❤😎😎😎😎
my favorite weightlifting song
Black Witchery - The Angelholocaust
Do CRADLE OF LOVE by Billy Idol ❤😂
Love you guys! You should listen to some Rare Earth - they were such a great rock funk band from the 70's. SO TALENTED! I know you would LOVE them! (songs such as "I Just Want to Celebrate", "Born to Wander" and "Hey Big Brother."
one of the songs where the live version is better than the studio version
Mony Mony is another name for a popsicle dinosaur skunk.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
this will uplift a dead person from the grave
He must've been dead tired water every show.
If this does not get you moving....your already dead...
Check around for the dirty version..you'll love it..😀
\m/
the studio version is much better. This version sounds kind of tinny and brassy.
Is this a cover of Tommy James?
Many is also a woman's name.
White Wedding is better.
Well, im ancient so, of course, i think the original, by Tommy James and The Shondells, is better.
Not as good as the original!!
The original is a jam. Billy's version is annoying.
wrong :)
@@sp33dr4c3r 😋 I'm not wrong.
@@Sometimes-even-lyrical Well, I suppose 'annoying'-ness is subjective. I love the TJ version, but to summarily dismiss this electrifying cover by Billy Idol as simply 'annoying' makes you sound like a cranky old man.
Never liked it ... never understood the popularity of this one...
You kick puppies, dont'cha?
The music of today cant even hold a candle to the 70's or 80's.
❤nem dá para aquecer ❤ música 🎷🎸 de hoje,isso é muito top lindo 😍 relíquias anos #70,80* 😢😢😢😢😢 bons tempos nosn❤❤
A good remake of Tommy James and the SHondells 60s hit.
