Altough you'd be hardpressed to see the differences yourself, that's how good they are
Random chance is more likely to fuck him up than his own sub-par performance(stickytrap-camping demo in the middle of nowhere, or a lvl 3 sentry), which(random chance) happens all the time in pub setting

Aside from the cosmetic case updates and average quality maps TF2 receives, the game is literally in the same state as CS 1.6 and Half-Life, leftovers of Valve that will survive for many years to come thanks to community servers and modding support. The only real question now is how long will Valve keep their Casual matchmaking servers up for the game.
